Make Races More Competitive/Closer... Help

So, I mainly do custom races. They are what I like about this game. I usually go to a NASCAR type track or close to it. I like around 40-60 laps. I like fuel consumption around 9x. I start last all the time and on most difficult setting I still win almost all the time. My car might be tuned up way too much. Anyway, what can I do to make these races more competitive? Thanks.

If you car is tuned up way to much well do the opposite, tuned it down.

Is it more just about trial,and error? Is there a wa I can see how the other cars weight and horsepower to get mine on the same level? Thanks
