Hello people of :gtplanet:. I am sending this message out to you all as a warning. Please make sure you back-up your data at all times just in case your hard drive decides to fail. I had it last night and lost it all. I had all cars and all golds on all races and now I gotta do it all again. So be warned as this could happen to you at any time.

Thank you for reading.

Been there before. Fortunately managed to recover my save by removing the HDD and putting into a USB external case. Fixed errors using diagnostic tools on the PC. Put HDD back in PS3 and copied GT5 save onto thumb drive (fortunately the save wasn't part of the corrupted data).

Now I have PS+

Had it happen to me. Lost my fat PS3 to the YLOD. Only thing that saved my butt was my PSN+ account. Had everything saved to the cloud.

GT5 since patch 2.something automatically makes back up of your save at every start of the game. I believe if you delete the normal one it will load from the backup.

Data backup is really a common sense thing. If you don't want to lose it, back it up. Thumb drives are cheap and it takes litterally seconds of your time. It's a no-brainer and I have no sympathy for those that don't and then start threads crying about how they lost their data.

Backup your backup!

A friend luckily had a backup when he got a YLOD. After getting new PS3, it wasn't really that nice to see his backup being corrupted. So, backup your backup if want to be sure!

Is it possible to install a solid state drive implace of the normal HD found in the PS3? I think I am correct in saying it's just a run of the mile SATA hard disk?

This:tup:

And make a note which spec the game was in at the time of the save.

It doesn't matter how many time you say it or anyone for that matter, nobody listens, then they expect us to give them free stuff when it corrupts.

By chance where did you do this on the PC. Which program?

While the OP is'nt asking for stuff, I have seen countless threads where this is true.

Bit harsh, CargoRat. Obviously not everyone has read the countless threads and if another one makes more people aware of the danger this can only be a good thing. The OP was posting a warning not an appeal for sympathy.

This protects you against corruption of the normal save (as could happen with an ill-timed crash), but not against a total HDD failure or the like.

Exactly why I created this thread. I am not looking for symphony or free gear in any way, just giving the warning, especially for the new guys on here

EDIT: It was a total HDD failure

It would be good for someone to tag this at the top of the marketplace. Seeing as that's the place with most data "editing" as such.

May be a bit harsh, but its true. Also, I never said the OP was asking for stuff. Matter of fact, I said the opposite in my second post. As for sympathy, never said that directly to the OP either, I was making a generalization. Lastly, we have several threads on this already if people would just learn to use the search feature. Threads concerning the same matter (duplicate) only create forum clutter.

Edit: Just for curiosity, I did a search myself and came up with 4 pages concerning this. And here is a thread that is exactly the same as this one.

Really don't think we need yet another.

You're right, just bumping one of the other threads would have done the job, but the OP was only trying to be helpful. Perhaps we need a sticky which just says "Back up your 🤬 data now"

I agree that he was trying to be helpful and I can fully appreciate that but like I said, this thread just adds to the others on the same subject. And yea, maybe there should be a locked sticky that reminds the newer people to the game to back up or lose it, lol. Maybe mention it to a mod and see what they think.

EDIT: I just PM'd Jordan about getting a sticky concerning the backing up of data so maybe there won't be so many duplicate threads created on this subject.

The search engine on this site sucks, if I want to find a thread I go to google and type in gtplanet then whatever I'm searching for, example "gtplanet backup save".

The search engine worked just fine for me in this case. In past searches, I have also never had a problem finding what I'm looking for. If your way works, then cool. My main point is that people just need to do some kind of search because about 95% of the time, their question/concern has already been addressed before on these forums.

I have to agree with you. I have in the past searched for a subject here - No match - go to Google - first hit is a link to a thread on GTPlanet. I suspect the search here looks for an exact match whereas Google is a bit more intelligent.

Like I said, I have never had a problem finding what I'm looking for using this sites search function. Maybe its just operator error, lol.

OK here's an example. Entering "RAM1500 tune" returns 3 hits, all to the marketplace and none relevant. Enter "GT5 RAM1500 tune" into Google and the first hit contains a link to a tune for a Dodge RAM 1500 on GTP. If you change the forum search to "RAM 1500 tune" (with a space) you get 100 hits most of which appear irrelevant. I couldn't be bothered to trawl through them to see if the one I wanted was there.

Why don't you try limiting the search to just the tuning forum? If you're looking for a tune, that should limit the amount of results. Whatever you're looking for, just limit the results to a certain forum that will likely contain what you're looking for. If its a tune, I would first check out Adrenalin's tune page, then you wouldn't have to search at all, lol. There are options on the search page that if used correctly, should get you the results you're after most of the time. It may not be perfect, but like I said, I've never had a problem with it. Also, if you can't be bothered to put forth a little effort yourself, how is that the search engines fault. The results may be there, but you're never going to know unless you look through the pages that it brings up.

Every tune that exists on GTPlanet is found here:

Search over...:sly:

I don't do much searching because I generally know where to look for stuff already, but I think the GTP search function works fine, the problem is the kind of stuff people are looking for isn't recorded in a way that you will find it using the search tools avaiable.

For example, if you want a Ruf 3400S tune, and you type that into the search function limited to thread titles, you get no response . If you search entire threads, you get many responses but then you have to go digging for it, and most of the hits will be along the lines of "I'm looking for a tune for the Ruf 3400s" or something like that, that isn't a tune.

However there are 4 tunes for that car in tuning garages. You can't find them through searching because in the post for the tune within the garage it just says "Ruf 3400S", not "Ruf 3400S Tune". It's already in the tuning garage so it's a "tune" but you don't use the word tune in the title of the post, it's redundant.

Which is why the link above to Adrenaline's thread is so valuable.

That was just an example I made up to test it. I'm not actually looking for a tune for a Ram. The point I'm making is that if people use the forum search for a particular subject before starting a thread they're likely not to find it unless they put in quite a bit of effort. If you know what you're doing you can find things eventually but most people will just type in a few keywords and if there's nothing obvious in the results they'll give up and start a new thread. I suspect this is partly why there are so many duplicate threads here. On other forums I frequent, if you point out that the a thread is a duplicate the mods will merge them. Do they do that here? Maybe it would be too onerous.

Well done for contacting Jordan about the sticky btw. I wasn't being entirely serious but actually it might be a good idea to have a reminder and a guide on how to do it. Of course there might already be one and I just couldn't find it.

ETA I wasn't aware of Adrenaline's tune page. I'll certainly be making use of that in the future.
