Making Programs run faster.

Hi guys, I've just noticed that my computer is running strangely slow. Mostly programs like MSN and my music player (Creative MediaSource), which take a while to respond or load. Whenever I press F1 (help) however, it starts up very quickly, which used to take forever. So do you guys think it's my computer or the programs? Also, I've noticed that certain games run slowly even though I have 4x the recommended RAM and GHz. I regularily defrag the computer too. Anyone know how to speed up my programs/computer without hyperthreading or overclocking?

Try getting some more RAM. Or drop the screen res a couple of sizes. Apart from that, I dunno.

I already have 512DDR. And I'm only using like half my harddrive.

Thanks, but most of that stuff doesn't help, and I'm not running XP. That's why I said I couldn't use hyperthreading. Sorry...

Yep. Spyware and background processes are most likely the culprit in this situation. Run a spyware/adware check and get rid of what shows up.

Here are some of my background programs:

-Logitech Desktop Messenger Agent
-Explorer
-Kabz
-Rundll32
-Logitray
-Winoldap
-Winmgmt
-Msnmsgr
-Fxsvr2
-Cthelper
-Taea
-Loadqm
-Systray
-Ctdvddet
and of course GTP.

Now, I think the culprit is "Taea" and "Kabz", but I haven't been able to isolate the file, and I can't find anything relevant on google. Does anyone have any clue what they could be? Apparently I also have a toolbar in IE call "Starware".................................................................anybody?

Download a Startup Manager/Monitor, and disable whatever is not necassery. 👍

I've tried CTRL+ALT+Delete'ing Loadqm, Kabz, Taea, and Winoldap but Taea and Loadqm make it freeze. Now, what does startup manager do?

Download a Startup Manager/Monitor, and disable whatever is not necassery. 👍

Or just go Start > Run > msconfig and click the "Startup" tab.

Anyway, same ol' routine. Go grab a free copy of Ad-aware and scan your computer for spyware. Then get a firewall like Viper Zero said.

Yes, I am quoting myself, but do this for us, get Belarc Advisor and post the results. Google for it, its free and will give u all the info u need. ALso all those programs above, also run them in Safe Mode. Ill check back later.
