First to say this - I have nothing against assists. They should be in the game and I have nothing against anyone who uses them and wants to play with any assists he likes.

Different types of assists have evolved through GT series since its beginning: from TCS and ASC in the early days, to plethora of different assists present in GT5 today.

But I have to say that situation with "mandatory assists" introduced in GT5 for the first time in the series is really making me uncomfortable. Now, we have many situations where most prominent assists (such as SRF and ASM) just can't be turned OFF and they are forced to ON throughout the single-player game.

All previous games allowed players to choose what assists they want without game forcing on them. Now, with almost 3 months into GT5, we have more and more situation where assists are being forced upon players and made mandatory. As an player who likes to drive without any assists, this represent a single biggest problem for my enjoyment in the game.

And what is even more absurd, those mandatory assists are forced in modes where one would not really expect them.

As many are aware, infamous Skid Recovery Force assist is basically a different name for "Normal" physics as introduced in GT5: Prologue game. SRF is the single uber-assist of GT5 and it pretty much allows controller users to cope with sensibility of steering/grip/weight-shift. Playing with SRF on pretty much eliminates any problems with traction, suspension stability, lateral wight-shift, reduces body-roll and pretty much dumbs-down all superiority of GT5's physics to levels of GT4 and even earlier.

Mandatory SRF is forced in all License Test races from the very release of the game, making them too easy for all who were seeking for "old-school" challenge, removing all finesse of physics. There is no way you can turn it off. It was and still remains my only personal disappointment in retail GT5 game.

Mandatory SRF has also been introduced in last update of Seasonal Races for all 5 Bonus Races. Not been able to turn SRF-off immediately killed all challenge for running SRF and also compromised efforts of me and many my friends who were running self-imposed challenges of Bonus Races in order to increase level of challenge.

Forced/mandatory Active Stability Management (ASM) was present in all NASCAR Special Events. During initial phase of GT5 players find the way to disable it by turning ABS down to 0. Last update (1.06) not only disabled option to turn-off ASM by disabling ABS in Special Races, it introduced same "firewall" into actual races of NASCAR Championship in A-Spec mode.

To repeat, I have nothing against SRF or any assist being allowed in any mode - I race for my own pleasure and accomplishment, not to tutor anyone - but I really can't understand why is it made mandatory.

I can cope will all the shortcomings of GT5 because all my enjoyment of the game comes from online racing with friends and catering self-imposed restrictions on Seasonal Races and A-Spec races, but I really find hard to explain myself what could be the reasons for making so many - and more as time passes - sections of the game to have mandatory assists.

Thoughts?

I don't see why any event, license, race, etc should have aids that can't be turned on or off.

Obvious exception for online restrictions.

I have not played any of those modes since the update so I cant say I'm widely effected by it. There most be some reason PD has done this for those modes.....

I'm so frustrated with PD, I don't know what to say.

Why can't the common sense dept. stop taking the day off? Oh yeah, then they would have a sensible game. They can't do that. It would be blasphemy.

This. With the ASM forcedly active, it's become near impossible to me to gold the last Daytona 2 laps race. The car simply loses too much speed in the turns and I got too far to catch the draft of the cars ahead. Damn you, PD!:grumpy:
