Mandatory HUD: oversight or middle finger to the fans?

I cannot fathom why at the very least a patch has not been issued to customize the HUD view or just turn it off completely. I have to screen wipe for 10 minutes after every race just to get the hi-contrast "Lap Time" and "Best Lap" image off my screen, and the HUD in the bottom left hand corner is scaring me to death as it is NOT wiping away!!!! So what gives? My $1,000 plasma TV or my $60 video game? Please, please don't force me to make the logical decision here, PD. RELEASE A PATCH FOR THIS ASAP or I have to stop playing!!!!!
 
It's certainly very strange that this isn't allowed.

Someone else will remember better than me... but I'm sure I read a tweet from Kaz's feed saying that it was something they'd look at.

That's the HUD, of course... not your TV :D
 
Dude, unless you spend like 3 days in a race with the HUD on the whole time, it's not going to burn the image on the screen...You actually think that having the HUD there for the 10 minutes it takes to finish a race is going to ruin the TV?

*edit* I understand now...didn't realize plasma's could be such a hassle.

1) It's Mr. Lebowski to you

2) I'm not talking about permanent full-contrast image burn-in. The little leftover shapes build up over time and look like total crap when playing a widescreen movie, for example. You can't avoid seeing that garbage once you know it's there.

3) I have this weird tic that makes me prefer OPTIONS and CHOICES over mandated "deal with it" nonsnese. It's not that hard to just give people the option.
 
I completely agree! My plasma is definitely suffering from burn in. Plus this would remove that utterly stupid downshift red blinky light!
 
I go on about this all the time, it's my one and only gripe with the GT that they do not allow enough customization of the game. Even put up a poll on the subject but the forum is so busy it's down a few pages now.

Why can't we make the screen look like we are driving a car! This is supposed to be a driving simulator.
When I drove to work today, my car didn't have a lap counter, map, position indicator, and a dozen other annoying things blocking my view of the road!
FIX THIS **** NOW PD.
 
There is also more information on there now than is needed tbh - do we really need a list of drivers names covering the wing mirror 👎
 
I just hope that they let you pick and choose what you want in the HUD, but I have a nagging feeling that they just don't "get it" and will make it an all or none option.
 
Losing the red down-shift marker would be nice. And the map. And the drivers list. And I'm sure the car status info could me made more minimal as it was in '4.
I don't mind having the lap times on screen but it's not like we would lose out altogether if the whole HUD was cut out, they'd still appear crossing the line and through the timing traps.

Every plasma tv nowadays comes with motion adaptive anti burn in technology. (especially a $1000 one) Just enable that feature and problem solved until they get a new patch.

Since I always use cockpit view I would also like to be able to turn OFF the HUD. I seriously went into the options thinking I could turn it off the other day. :dunce:

Why don't they just make it so that it can be toggled on and off? That way, when doing endurance races you will be able to check fuel and so on, and if you want to know where the other racers are in relation to you. For example, pressing square on the pad or wheel toggles the HUD on/off. I'm sure that would be a pretty simple fix.
 
I also own a plasma-tv and I couldn't agree more. Of course I knew what to expect when I bought the thing, but is it really that hard to implement an option like that?
The best solution would be that you could toggle the HUD via some button. I hope we will see that in some future patch.

That being said: besides the image-retention (a real burn-in shouldn't occur anymore with nowadays models), plasmas are really great for gaming. Better image quality and less input lag.
 
I agree with OP, get rid of the whole damn thing.

On some cars I can't even see in the side view mirror because there is a list or people in the race, which is totally useless as it doesn't give split times for them.

Added to that I don't get any notification when an A.I. car pits, WTF? How can I choose my strategy when I have no idea what the other cars are doing?

Come on PD, some areas of gameplay are seriously lacking, little simple things.

On a kind of side note, the HUD should be removeable in all views in replay as well, it's impossible to make a nice video at the moment with all this useless garbage on screen.
 
I really, really would like to turn this off as well. In every game / sim I have ever played I allways turn the hud off, or set it to minimum. In GT5 I am constantly reminded that I am playing a game. With tons and tons of useless information. Who really needs a drivers list?

I think this is one of those things that could really improve the gaming fun with a minimal amount of coding.

Once again a step back from Prologue, as you could hide the HUD on all views there, not just the 'tv camera' viewpoint. 👎

And agreed, the HUD is useless for me as well.. not only is it bad for your TV (24 hour races? yikes) it should be a option to remove it.
Im not interested in the g-force bar covering the entire steering wheel while im racing, also not interested in the names of the drivers taking up 75% of the right side of the screen.

Please PD, read this and don't think about implementing it sometime in the future.. just... do it. 👍

Yes, I agree, also there is no easy way to change which car is being viewed in the replay without bringing up the menu, selecting camera, selecting car etc, etc.

I sometimes wonder if Microsoft planted someone in PD who designed the User Interface for the replays !

We need to keep this up guy's, post on the official forums as well.
 
How about a signed petition to PD!:dunce: Can't say I could be bothered to start something like that personally but somebody should try to contact them!!!
(even an on/off toggle button would be a great help as others have said here):ouch:

Well, Kaz said he would think about giving a option to remove it, so they hear our cries.. it's just that he is considering it at the moment, so who knows right? :nervous:

Also the HUD in the replays... wtf? so much eyecandy and then it's ruined a bit by the endless amount of data on the screen when all you want is to watch the replay in it's full glory.

Is someone going to post this on the official forums?
 
the thing that annoys me to most, is the fact they spent all this time on "premium" cars with there incredibly detailed interiors, yet we CAN'T EVEN SEE THEM PROPERLY BECAUSE THERE COVERED IN ALL THESE READOUTS!!!

let me see the bloody interior FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

i dont know about most people but when i play in cockpit view i want it to be REALISTIC. i dont want no stupid map telling me where the next turn is, i dont want to see my lap times or my speed on a digital readout i want to view the car INSTRUMENTS and race realistacally.

calling yourself the "real driving simulator" and then plonking this great big ugly hud in the way of your 1:1 detailed interior is just plain retarded.
