Manual Disadvantage

I agree, but for drag racing....not so much.

Well if i'm drag racing which I hardly ever do because I think it's a complete joke in this game, I use the paddle shifters to give me a fair race.

I will also run across some people with a wheel that supports an H pattern shifter which makes for a fun race if we're both using it.

Am I the only here who use the G27 H-shifter without clutch?

I like the disadvantage of one hand driving when shifting gears, but don't want to struggle with a poorly emulated clutch.

Uhhh how do you change gears with the H-pattern on a G27 without pushing the clutch? The wheel doesn't emulate running out of clutch fluid due to a dead slave cylinder. You can't just upshift at the right rpm like in a real car.

if you do not step on the clutch at the start of the race then you can power shift without ever using it.
If you press it just once then it is activated and you will have to use it.
To deactivate it shift 2 times with the paddles and you can go back to clutchless shifting.
Yep quoting myself from this very thread

The game will allow you to shift the H shifter without the clutch if you are using a G27 or Fanatec wheel, but it is not as fun, to play that way. The H shifter may be slower, but I have much more fun when I use the H shifter and the clutch.

👍

Even though it might be a bit slower, it's still loads of fun and like I mentioned earlier if you run across someone with a Wheel which supports an H pattern shifter it makes for a very good race.

I suck immensly with clutch and h shifter but i have a blast doing it. ;) always miss my brake points or pop into neutral.

Im an online noob but would love to race some everyday drivers against all clutch users. Honda civics and the like. 97 hatch is awesome for.me. my wife had one first few years we were dating so it brings me back.

Anyway. Caswellhouse is my psn.
Add me if you want. Lvl 36 without grinding. But i will prob crash into you a few times using clutch ;)

I'm down to race with you sometime man, i'm pretty new to the stick shift as well but I personally think i'm getting a lot better with it as time goes by.

If you continue to use the stick you'll get better with it, remember practice makes perfect. 👍

I also love racing the stock Type R cars, I have a Honda Civic Type R '08 that's a blast to drive and it's completely stock!

That's exactly what I was thinking but why would people want to mod their G25 in order to not let off the accelerator to switch gears? If you don't want a realistic experience then you shouldn't of got a realistic wheel! 👎

Just to be clear shifting without lifting off the gas is done in the real world, its how most manufacturers and magazine get the 0 to 60 times (and other times) as low as possible.

Its not good for the transmission of the car, but that doesn't mean it isn't done and it doesn't have its place.

Personally I would rather GT5 allow it to be done, but make those that do face the risk of transmission damage.

That's very true and I forgot that it's possible but like you said, it's no good for your transmission, I stand corrected.

Cool. Send me a request and ill hop on sometime wityou. Im in northeatern us but play at all different times.

I'll send you an FR to as I just got my GT3 RS!

Your upshift is R1? What's your gas? R2? That's awkward. I use R2 for gas and X for upshift. Square for downshift.

I actually have a DFGT and use paddle shifters. Put R1 cuz I have never used DS3 for gt5 and only assumed it was R1.

I always used the Analog Sticks, I thought it was pretty easy to modulate.

From GT1 through 4 I always used the right stick up/down for gas/brake but broke that habit for some reason with GT5
