Manual or automatic?

I'm gonna give it another try with a tuned car this weekend and see what I can come up with. I was pretty good at down shifting when necessary but I gave it up when my 13 year old daughter beat me using AT while I was using MT. Just didn't seem to recover as well from the mistakes I made while driving.😄

I started using sticks with GT3 but ended it when got my PS3 and GTA IV.

Wanna hear something startling? I can't remember how I drove GTA :boggled: .....played every GTA since the first double-pack came out with II and III included....though I must admit to not finishing the biker episode with the last installment:dunce:

edit: yep, I see how this got off topic, sorry....still learning!

Prolly because you need more working on shifting? I played shuffle races with like 14 people or so couple of weeks ago and I was using manual (G27) and I came like 3-5 place, I reckon I would have came 2nd if I never used my clutch only my H Shifter because I mis shift at times causing me to fall behind.

Manual. I find the automatics terrible. There's too many situations which a manual is perfect for (short shifting, staying on the peak torque on hills). Plus I find it more fun.

I prefer manual, however, if the automatic transmission has smooth gear changes and is actually behaving clever like a real automatic (for example shifting up when going slow without much throttle) I'd use it to cruise on the cars an automatic applies to in real life.

Working automatic gearboxes (behaving like real) are in games like GTA IV and ironically even in the new Need for Speed Most Wanted. Then it's actually more relaxed to cruise with them.

For racing, manual will mostly have the advantage, automatic only makes sense if the other elements of driving take up a lot of concentration (like in the X1, if you're not experienced with it).

If GT5's automatic system worked about the same as GT3's and GT4's (where you could hold the gear) I might have used it for more relaxed cruising, but as is it's manual all the way.

I only used AT for some of the Vettel challenges. I typically don't use AT in any game if MT is available.

I used AT on Gt2 and 3 because i was extremely young back then. (Im 17 now so....like 9 back then?)

But since GT4 and when i learned a little bit more about how to drive propperly i switched to manuel.

I used manual all the way from GT for PS1. Hell, even before that, when I was playing Need For Speed 1 on PC, i used manual. It's harder to control and corner on AT transmission.

Well I used Auto from when I was 8 years old till 10 years old and from 11 till now I'm using manual and developed new skills overtime.

Hey im on the same line lawl...

when i was 8 playing GT4 i was like in auto... My dad like try Manual :P.... i did and feel hooked at 10 lol. :P

have started using MT ever since GT2. I never really appreciated MT before, but the moment I tried AT again and it was obvious that I didn't have much control of the car as I did before with MT, I began to shun AT

It's hard at first, so my tip is to practice driving with MT around a fairly easy course, (Tsukuba or London).

Nowadays, whenever I get to play and I didn't know the transmission was set to AT, I get this numb feeling which irritates me a lot. :ouch::grumpy::lol:

I didn't start using manual to a little after GT5 in Forza. I came back and switched to Manual. It's faster and feels like I have more control and like I'm playing off of skill not just arcadey speed like Need For Speed or something.

Depending on the complexity of the track. For nurburg I use manual to have more control, where as simple tracks similar to the highspeed way I use auto. Starting to shift to more use of manual though, as well as discontinuing the use of the driving line.

I originally voted Auto but in the last week or so since my vote I've been using manual shifting and after a week of poor lap times I have finally got to the point where I'm slightly quicker than I was using auto shift :)

Guess I need to change my vote to manual now :D

Manual with clutch.Always.

+1

Same!

MT. It is proven that MT is much faster in lap times compared to AT. Also, having control in gears will let you stay in your powerband for some situations. The AT, on the other hand, will feel much more sluggish once it shifts in a wrong gear. In AWD cars, it is better to use MT than AT. The only advantage of an AT is that when you're driving for long in GT, then it's good, but if you have a steering wheel, say Logitech G27, then you can shift through your paddle shifters w/o taking your hands off the wheel.
