I have always used a manual tranny , much more control and fun I think anyone who uses an automatic is a rookie even though I personally never used one I am 100% sure I can beat any automatic drivers time same car same track by atleast 5 sec a lap depending on how long it is of course maybe not the test track or super speedway

currently i'm on auto, but appreciate that i'm going to have to go over to manual. Probably after i've completed amatuer which is coming up soon, if i get left alone by the bird for long enough..... ;)

I was an automatic driver for almost two years and once the switch was made to manual, it just hasnt been the same.
I love it and keep kicking myself for not going to in earlier.
There is so much more control to the car and can take corners at better speed than auto.
Im still improving and getting faster with the manual.
The only thing is, when your racing a car (two player) and your opponent has the same car, its tough to listen to your own engine and find myself missing many shifts or shifting too low.
Oh well, the price of manual shifting.

Yup. I STILL prefer a manual transmission, IRL and in GT3.

That's quite an ego you have there...

NEway, manual of course. No better way to control entry speed, IMHO...

Well, I can shift based on the sound, but I've trained myself to be able to see the tach without having to move my eyes away from the track... using your entire scope of vision is a wonderful thing. ;)

I use both, depending on the length of the race. As for beating ANY Auto Driver by 5 seconds a lap. With drivers of equal skill you might win by 2, maybe 3 seconds if you ar having a blue chip day. And the guy you're racing is not.

I'd really like to see you beat Talentless, Mr P, or JSSchumacher under the conditions you propose.

ok MAYBE a slight exaggeration , I would really like to race a top racer on this site in person ( not a 2 player race just go for best time ) I try not to toot my own horn but what else can you do on this site I honestly believe I am in the top five at least in GT2 , I have just recently bought GT3 and would say probably one of the top ten or fifteen SO FAR ( I am improving every race ) any how it's all fun for me I just wish I lived next door to one of you real fast guy/girls

Manual for me now.... but raced all :gt:2 and most of :gt:3 in Auto.....

Glad I made the change.... far better control and you can get the MAX out of your gears..... :burnout:

I tried using Auto for Super Speedway last week...and found myself trying to gear change....:banghead:

Once your in Manual you can't go back....

IXLR8:

Take a look at on-line racing, and over at www.gtvault.com. Start comparing times and see what/who you're up against. Ihave managed many fantastic lasp around each of the GT3 courses, and still find myself 5 seconds down from others.

OLR will require you to run your best, then post the replay for verification. If you are as good as you say so, it's one of the best competitions out there.

Remeber "someone who is nice to you, but not nice to the waiter, isn't a nice person"

And I use manual. More control, and better braking. (IRL as well)

Alright, try this. I get a 56.XXX (just for a better luck for u we'll say i get a 56.999)

I used the 787b fullly modded on midfeild, Now i bet you cannot get a 52 sec on midfeil wit a 787b manual on midfeild. The best times ever recorded were 55's and i saw one person get a 54.9

Now i dought u can get in the 52's

-----

And i don't see what u mean, "more control" i feel using the gas pedal pressure sensitivly works just as great.

EDIT: i am 100% finsihed also

what I should have written is when you have an automatic and you brake going into a turn , and then when you come out the @#$%^auto wont downshift to the proper gear and this makes for slower times in my opinion

Oh yeah, this thread is over in the other forum as well, and I've posted several times on behalf of the manual. Might want to see what the people over there had to say.

Well, a good example is when you accelerate up to a corner and it coincides with the red-line. The auto will upshift at the corner, and then downshift when you brake, or possibly even carry the higher gear into the corner - the manual driver can hold the lower gear with the higher revs, meaning he has more available power in the first part of the corner (so the drag caused by turning has less effect), plus he's had two less gear shifts.

The auto is also more inclined to use the whole rev range under the redline, too, rather than just keep the revs in the power band, and is more inclined to get bogged down (particularly in turbo cars).

I personally find it better because I'm not second guessing the auto - especially on the road - I HATE driving autos on the road. The tiptronics aren't too bad - except when they decide to shift up anyway.

i agree totally with vat_man...
the only advantage auto has is well...for the lazy ppl who dont wanna shift gears!

any how come no cars in gt3 have a 7th gear???

I read some were that if you hold the
Shift button till your ready to shift it works like a manual.. better acceleration and speed control and so on... if you hold it and dont let go its like not shifting... i think i saw it on gamewinners.com...

I use automatic...While I understand that manual would give me better times, I A) have never lost a race yet in auto on GT3 (car type and pit strategy) and B) I really do not like the controls on the play station 2 for shifting. In real driving I drive a manual...if I could get that same feeling in the simulation, I would switch in a heartbeat.

I have problems when I downshift that it affects the steering to a degree. It makes it kind of jerky where with the auto, you can follow your line much better and smoother.
I still like the manual and will stick with it. Im getting better and missing less shifts now.
One of the biggest joys I get when I race manually is the sound of the car and engine. Watching racing on tv, the sounds are similar. :D
I love this game.

i prefer manual over auto, i use to be an auto but after i started drifting a found it a lot harder with the automatic tranny so i switched and never went back.

The main reason is that I never have the volume up on the TV when I play. I always listen to either the radio(yes, that's still around), CDs, and LPs.
So that means I can't hear when the car gets up into those high revs, and by the time the red light starts flashing, you've already burnt oil...

As previously mentioned on this board, if you want to stay in a gear you can hold the shift button down.

Also, if you want to downshift just tap the reverse key.

I am 90% complete and have never touched the gear stick ;)
