Did anybody notice a difference in performance when playing fully manual or sequential (with the G25)?
I had a look at the leaderboards and most of the #1 are using fully manual (with clutch enabled). You can hear it easily because it goes to "N" for a fraction of second between gears.
I am playing manual sequential (tiptronic) with the paddles as I thought the overall performance of the car would be better (i.e. quicker to go from one gear to another) but maybe I'm wrong and should switch to fully manual.

Any idea?

I use clutch for the cars that in real life do have clutch. Cars like the F430 I use the paddles. I hear for drifting it's good to have clutch since you can press on it in some cases. In racing its good as well since you can you heal and toe techniques
But Somehow I always have better RPM matching down shifts then with sequential then Clutch and H shifter.

Same case here, as I got used to the sequential shifting since GT3 with GT Force. :D I'm learning to do the manual shifting with clutch these days.. to feel how manual cars work in real life. I always mess up with gears when downshifting.. as I don't know how to do heel-and-toe correctly. haha :dopey:

ps: I don't own a driving licence yet. :P

I'm with Nox and tend to use clutch for manuals and paddles for those that have them natively.

The times I have messed about a bit, using paddles on a manual car has always seemed to take longer to engage the next gear than using stick and clutch.

LOL You guys really rev match? I usually dont with just the g25. Heel-toe is important in real life but in the game can you even notice? (I dont have prologue yet) Not like the clutch will wear in the game, even if damage is added....Unless they made it happen over time like the body refresher plan. Depending on how hard you are on the clutch will say when it needs to be fixed.

How exactly does the clutch work? Can you for example choose how early or late to engage the clutch again, after shifting? Or will you have to wait for the rpm to drop down to the matched rpm for a given speed in a given gear before the clutch automatically engages again?

I don't know what rev match means, but I usually change gear at the end of the red zone (9000rpm on the 111R). I have been racing a few susuka since I posted this thread, and noticed that it does take long to change gear with the paddles. I get decent times but I should be able to do better with the stick.

I take it your RX8 is automatic? :P

Nooooooooooooooo :-)
They do a paddle version, but nooo way. My Rx-8 is the 231ps manual 6 speed. A good match for your 350Z ;-)
I drove one of these as a rental car in the US, nice to drive too. It was a tiptronic though...

I'm worried about your car (clutch, tranny) if you don't know what rev-matching is. You don't blip the throttle on downshifts? (or heel-toe?)

Your car might have been a match when mine was stock :sly:

I don't need to do that in Dublin, I'm lucky if I hit 50mph because of the traffic :-)

I know what is heel-toe but no I don't know how to do it (never tried it). If I understand, the goal is to keep the car in rev's.
Maybe I should practice with the G25 first!

Blipping the throttle and heel-toe simply reduce ware and tear on your clutch. Not to mention make everything a lot smoother...
G25 will give you good practice. The key is when you downshift, before you let out the clutch, you blip the throttle so when you release the clutch the engine and transmission are at the same RPM and they match up without slipping the clutch.

I only Rev match on down shifts, when I down shift, well lets say car's red line is at 6,000 RPM when I down shift lets say from 3rd gear into 2nd. I want the 2nd gear to be at around 5,500-5,800 RPM.
When I switch gears from gear to gear going up, Depends on a car and the HP and Torque curves, I sometimes do it on the red line or after the red line ( right before the engine acts up)

I remeber a car like Suzuki cappuccino, going up hill in the Eiger circiut, car I think was on 2nd or 3rd.. and I was at before the redline, and car won't speed up anymore, I switch to next gear, and seemed car have more power before the red line and i gain additional miles.

A lot of people have modded the pedals, have a look in the "steering wheel and cockpit" section!

Yeah, I've seen it..but I use a Playseat so not sure how they would mount. And I dont fancy opening it up and voiding my warranty.

Don't want to be a jackass, but it bothers me that ppl call sequential manuals 'Tiptronic.' That would be a Porsche trademark, and in use with the VW group.

And Tiptronic would be an automatic gearbox, with manual selection of gears available. There is still a torque converter. They are very different from true sequential manual transmissions, such as the popular VW DSG (or now S Tronic).

Might want to check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiptronic

Tiptronic was probably not the right term sorry, but it's a term that everyobdy understand.
i didn't know there was a difference though, thanks wikipedia!

haha, no worries. 👍 :)

It's that I am a big Audi fan, and it bugs me when ppl use Tiptronic inappropriately...💡

i had a hyundai a while back and it was advertised as using tiptronic shifting.

Hey,

I have a G25 wheel and I use the H Pattern shift even on the cars that doesn't come with a H pattern in reality i.e Nissan R35. The Ferrari F430 does come with a H Pattern because the flappy paddles are optional extras ;)

I've always felt that I've got the best control over the cars when using the H pattern and clutch, probably because it's easier (for me) to shift the weight and get the best out of the car.

I should also point out that I only use the right foot for acceleration and braking, the left is merly there for clutch purposes.

The point of rev matching is not primarily clutch wear, it is keeping the car stable on downshift, paticularly while turning in.

In GT5P you drive the F40 Pro physics no aids and ABS off, if you don't rev match the rear becomes very loose and unstable on corner entry and easily can turn the car the wrong way around.

I use heel and toe, but find it hard with the G25 as the pedals are not inverted like in a real car.

Erm. Not in all real cars! :)

Going back to un_peacekeeper's post about VW/Audi & Porsche will also reinforce this point, since there have been numerous Porsches & VWs over the years that have a pedal setup that matches the G25, e.g. Porsche 911 & original VW Beetle.

@ un_peacekeeper: Please use "people" not "ppl" it doesn't take much longer to type, and is much more understandable. Consult the AUP for more info! ;)

Wow, I was speaking only in video game terms, I didn't not know GT made the clutch accurate enough to throw off the balance. That is fantastic :)

lol. Will do, sir. 💡:)

I just hate getting caught for that, but I am waaay too used to IMs - haha. :ouch:

Question: does this only apply to driving with the clutch turned on (in GT5P of course)? I'm asking since I am using a DFP and it doesn't exactly have a clutch, lol. And I am still waiting for my copy...April 17th.....:(

Yes only with the clutch enabled...... Because without the clutch enabled the computer does automatic rev matching (take notice of the throttle bar on downshifts)
