March 1 – Marussia MR01

The twelfth and final car to be launched for the 2012 season is the Marussia MR-01. Information is scarce at the moment, but I've been able to glean a ew little bits and pieces from around the internet:

- The MR-01 will be the only car of the 2012 season to run without KERS. This is because the team thinks that concentrating on getting the aero right is more important, and that whatever benefit the system offers will be offset by the challenges of making it work and the added weight that it brings.

- According to Pat Symonds, the MR-01 will not feature a stepped nose. In an interview with Motorsport Magazine, Symonds says that the team abandoned the idea when they could not get it to work. This is probably because the MVR-02 had a slightly lower nose profile than the other 2011 teams, so raising the nose and then stepping it down required a lot of work.

Discuss.

Repost from the testing thread: when the Marussia MR-01 finally does launch, I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a revised livery. They've just announced a partnership with Carlin in GP2, and this is the team's new livery:

And they're continuing their association with Manor Motorsports in GP3, with this livery spotted during testing at Estoril:

So I would not be surprised if the MR-01 launches with a similar design.

Speaking of said launch, I don't know when it will be now that the car has failed its crash tests.

Also, the Marussia car will not have a stepped nose as they'll follow the path of McLaren...

EDIT: Sorry, realised I'm a little late to announce it here :P

That GP2 livery is pretty tidy. If that's the avenue they go down livery wise and with no stepped nose, we're looking at the best looking car on this year's grid in my opinion.

I did, the information I posted does refer to Marussia and their car which is supposed to launch, doesn't it?

At the bottom of prisonermonkey's post he mentioned the failing of the crash tests.

However, he didn't list a source, whereas you did.

By the sounds of it Marussia along with HRT will not be making gains into the midfield this year. No performance testing of the new chassis = bad.

I'm starting to think 107% is going to be a bit of a stretch for them.

I didn't notice it, but no harm done with my post.

You will be surprised. The transition from 2010 to 2011, with the exhaust blown diffusers, paved the way for the front and midfield, who have the money to develop such technologies, as well as the engines better capable of blowing hot air, to gain a lot of time from the backmarkers, but nevertheless, HRT and Virgin decreased the gap to the front between 2010 and 2011.

Now with the blown diffusers restricted, it will decrease the advantage the front and mid pack had over HRT and Virgin, and effectively decrease the gap. If anything, the gap is going to go down again.

Peter.

That's a great thing, I like the idea of driver skill being the main factor and not more so the car.

A failure to test does not mean the car will not qualify within 107% of the pole time. HRT did no testing last year, but they failed to qualify in Melbourne because they were forced to use the 2010-spec front wing on the 2011 car.

It's called a joke(hence the laughing emoticon), lighten up a little, it's good for your health.

It looks quite neat and tidy, although that picture makes the nose look very thin. The car will probably be a dog, but at least they finally produced it.

One of the best looking 2012 car? Probably. I think the livery concept is pretty similar to Sauber's though...

Now is it me or is there a really small stepped on the nose? Otherwise, still the car looks clean!

I don't think it's the angle. That wing is a bit high compared to the other 11 teams.

That entire front end looks a bit high.
