Masterly tuned vs race car?

The question is I'm wondering is it possible for a tuned stock version of the race car to perform as well as its professional form?

When I see a race car and all the stickers, side skirts etc, subconsciously without even trying it there isn't a doubt in my head that it will stick to the road and be super stable at high speeds.
But is it always true? Will RX-7 TC always outperform a perfectly tuned RX-7?

Depends on the track.

Race cars have adjustable front downforce and overall downforce setting can achieve a huge amount / greater number.

But beware though, it might be its weakness also, because downforce eats PP.

A tuned Pagani Zonda R can beat the Zonda LM car on the Nurburgring. So yes, sometimes. Main benefit is that race cars are generally lighter than you can make a road car.

Except the Zonda R isn't a road car.

Race cars are generally better. In GT, they get more downforce, probably more base grip, and they have stiffer chassis and better suspension tuning options than road cars. The only thing that a tuned car can come close to a race car at is acceleration and top speed, as the road cars are usually allowed more engine tuning for whatever reason. This usually isn't enough to beat race cars on most tracks though.

Yes in some cases it can perform as well, but in most cases it can't perform better.

For example, the modified car gives close lap times, but you have more confidence in the racing car (for me anyway) because they tend to have more grip. I can compete with the racing version, but I feel like I'm on the edge, whereas in the racing car you're on the edge but still comfortable as its predictable.

No, never

So you've tested every single race car and it's fully maxed street car counterpart? You must be very dedicated!

To the OP, what do you mean by "Out Perform"? Do you strictly mean lap times? Are we talking bone stock race cars? There are a lot of variables to your question...

The fact is though, a fully maxed street version of a car can certainly run a faster lap time than the bone stock race car version of said car.

For example, a fully maxed Z06 Corvette is faster than a bone stock Z06 RM.

Why would he imply that one would be tuned more than the other. Youre just being provocative.

production vs. race, both tuned to the same hp and, why not, weight. race will win every time. and i mean EVERY time

the PP system is dumb, and will allow production cars to beat race cars. but if we are talking hp and weight, on a race track, to reiterate, race car will win 100% of the time

But what you say could be drawn back to simply saying, a for the sake of example, road RX-7 with a wing will alway outperform a road RX-7 without. Same BHP same weight.

I'm fairly positive a road RX-7 would beat a tuned one on say SSRX where downforce is less needed.

I'm sorry, but isn't that exactly what he asked? I interpret "perfectly tuned" as meaning fully modified. He never mentioned anything about the RX7 TC being fully modified. Maybe I mis-understood the OP's words, but again that leads to my point of the original question not being specific enough to get a firm answer.

Max rear downforce = higher top speed, so no, even on a stupid, massive straight line, the race car will still win

Wait, what? Is this true in GT5? If it is, WTF is up with the aerodynamics simulation in this game ?

I would bet that my "tuned" corvette z06 would run very close if not better than a bone stock z06 rm at 550pp on quite a few tracks with the same tires. So to answer your question yes I thinkits possible but it depends on a lot of things, mainly the driver/tuner, because of your not comfortable with the tune and can't push it hard enough the tuned car won't have a chance, because as someone else said street cars are much harder to drive on the edge.

A tuned skyline r33 can beat r33 race car,r34 race car and sometimes the r35. Perfect tune :sly: 👍 also my masterly tuned zr1 beats a rm one

And rightfully so. Downforce is essential when you go into the higher PP races.

The only situation I can think of where a road car would beat it's race car counterpart would be if the road car had "magic downforce" like as shown in the VW Nardo Concept.

Given equal weight and HP, no a street version will never beat a race version, no matter what anyone says.

Given equal PP on a real racing circuit it is possible on some tracks, although I haven't tested it. I'm thinking maybe on Spa or LeMans, the larger tracks where superior top end and power might trump the advantage of downforce.

The NSX LM road car and the Nissan LM road car thing are both better than the race car counterparts, but they're not proper road cars in themselves and carry huge amounts of downforce before you buy a wing, you would never get road cars like them in real life.
