Here's one.

Tanker A and B are leaving on a 900 mi. journey to Corpus Christi. Tanker A can travel at 18 mph and Tanker B can go at 22 mph. However Tanker B is delayed 5 hrs. At what time will Tanker B pass Tanker A?

I set up a proportion.
(22)/(18)=(x+5)/(x)
18x+90=22x
x=22.5

So Tanker B traveled for 22.5 hours and tanker A traveled for 27.5 hours.

I guess the correct answer is: at the 27.5 hour mark.

Klostrophobic wins!

This was a hw problem that I found difficult, so I thought I'd post it up to see what others thought.

I used my handy TI-83+ and set up a parametric equation:

X1T=18T
Y1T=1
X2T=22(T-5)
Y2T=2

Then I traced the line until they were at same times and distances, the final answer being 495 ft.

I don't even know what a parametric equation is! My way is easier because it uses very simple algebra.

I'll ask an easy question.

What letter represents the square root of negative one?

Negative one is not a perfect square. I'll guess n.

I'm gonna pass it on to whoever feels up for asking one.

I just took my ACTs this morning, and I've had enough math for a Saturday.

This one needs a bit of graphing, but here goes:

Solve the system (find where the lines meet):
y=14x^2+7x+7
y=24x^2+12x-8

y = 14x^2 + 7x + 7
y = 24x^2 + 12X - 8

-7 = 12(14x^2 + 7x)
8 = -7(24x^2 + 12x)

-7 = 168x^2 + 84x
8 = -168x^2 -84x

Added together...
1 = 0
So...
No Solution

:odd: OMG the world is screwed and gone to hell....your doing MATH...for FUN...am i the only sane person here?
what level are you limiting the math to? I mean I could solve one then give you Vector-valued functions of several variables...then we would be here for years solving crap....

Whats wrong with that? I do my taxes for fun. :sick: Although, what has been in the preceding posts is not strictly maths, but rather algebra.

Patience! The pole up me'a*** will be removed soon via caesarian.

just you people wait until I get into 3-dimensional graphing :trouble: Things shoudl really start to turn up when that happens...
