Then I wonder what would happen if Bill France Jr said anything close to the Hitler comments Eccelstone made

I've stopped watching F1 this year around Round 5, and I don't think I'll ever watch it again.

You have complete idiots running the series. Eccelstone even had the nerve to blast americans (Again), saying they thought Bosnia was a town in Miami (How is a town within a city??)

I feel sorry for anyone who watches the crap that is F1, and if your American and you bash American motor racing like NASCAR and the IRL only to go suck after F1 because it's so "classy" when the people who run it laugh at you and are miserable SOBs then whatever. Enjoy yourself

This isn't something new to this season.....you must have never read any Ecclestone comments before.

Conversely, FOTA shouldn't even exist if all teams care about is themselves. Believing that teams wouldn't get past their differences was the cause of Mosley's fall. But after what just happened in F1, agreeing to an independent enforcer is minor stuff. Obviously, at the time they didn't have an answer to that question because it was a new decision; this was just another of the details they were about to iron out before Bernie & Max freaked out and gave in.

Being united against Max is one thing, orgainising a series by themselves is quite another. Its easy to agree with your competitors when you both hate the same person, its not so easy to agree when you feel your competitor has something to gain over you.

The lingering question on everyone’s must surely be “is Max staying or going”? The FIA/FOTA war reached a stalemate when FIA president Max Mosley announced he may stand for another term based upon his frustration with FOTA’s comments to the press. In a previous statement, following the WMSC meeting in June, the beleaguered president agreed not to seek reelection this October.
The rumors have been rampant amongst the F1 community. Who could oppose Mosley in an election? Names such as Jean Todt have surfaced as a potential replacement but carry perceived biases based upon his past employment with Ferrari. It is also well known that Mosley still carries considerable political power within the FIA member clubs and would be a difficult man to beat in a straight election. But one man has tested the waters and may decide to challenge the venerable Mosley for his presidential seat should he run again in October.
The Guardian newspaper reports that Rally champion Ari Vatanen is the man who may buck conventional wisdom and run for president of the FIA. Vatanen won the world rally championship in 1981 with Prodrive’s David Richards as co-driver. The Finn was a member of the European Parliament from 1999 until this year and has apparently sought the mood among several FIA member clubs.
“At the moment I am consulting the member clubs and am already seeing positive feedback,” said the 57-year-old Finn, a four-times Dakar Rally winner. “I am considering standing. I think the time has come for a change. I would go for it, even if not sure of winning.”
Can Vatanen legitimately make a serious challenge to Mosley’s reign of political hegemony? That may well be a question best put to the member clubs of the FIA but it all may come to very little if Mosley decides to stand down this October. A notion that many fans, teams and sponsors are looking for reaffirmation from Mosley on.
We’ve discussed this at F1B before. While many names within F1 have cropped up such as Jean Todt, Gerhard Berger, Ron Dennis, Peter Sauber et. al. The likelihood that a name not as familiar to F1 pundits might be the right choice. Someone familiar with motor sport but not steeped in former F1 employment biases. A Person who appreciates the challenges faced by teams, tracks, fans and sponsors. A Person who the FIA Members can feel confident about and could enthusiastically endorse. A peron with a history of working on motoring issues around the globe and understand the political process. Is Vatanen that person? Time will tell but what do you think?

The main beneficiaries of the FIA's decision to allow double diffusers still stuck with FOTA, with Toyota arguably being it's most outspoken supporter. So what does that teach us about the group's ability to reach agreement? Even so, nothing could've stopped FOTA from hiring a separate entity to enforce the rules in a new series, so it's a non-issue.

I heard/read somewhere (here?) that they could use the FIA to enforce the FOTA rules. If that was possible, I could see them trying that to rub it in Max's face.

I 100% agree with you. Those 2 incompetent fools we know as Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone, turning F1 into this monstrosity. I want, wish, hope, pray for those 2 to step down. They're ruining the pinnacle of motorsport, and turning it into a little game of open-wheeled-save-money-racing. I am more entertained from watching my dogs litter my lawn with their faeces than the faeces that comes on my TV. F1 is scarred for life, and will never be the same. Congratulations you fools, you FAIL, at running a sport, at making people happy, at everything you have done.

A new Concorde - set to be signed sometime within the next twenty-four hours (or so Ecclestone predicts) - could end this saga once and for all, and see Max Mosley on his way out:

A new Concorde agreement, the protocol covering technical, sporting and commercial regulations in Formula One, is set to be signed tomorrow, possibly bringing to an end the damaging period of confrontation and unrest which has scarred the sport for the past couple of seasons.

This uneasy compromise is expected to follow its predecessors as a tripartite agreement signed by the FIA, Bernie Ecclestone on behalf of CVC Capital Partners, the sport's commercial rights owners, and the Formula One Teams' Association.

It will also remove the prospect of a breakaway world championship which was threatened by FOTA if the FIA pressed ahead with some of its more controversial proposals. They included at one point a draconian budget cap and the idea of "two-tier" technical regulations which would reward teams who signed up for the budget cap with additional technical freedom and higher-revving, and therefore potentially more powerful, engines.

Every team will run to the same set of technical rules in 2010. Now that the sport has resolved most of its problems Max Mosley is understood to be standing by his decision not to stand for re-election as FIA president and will step down in October.

"I think as far as costs are concerned it will pretty much see the status quo maintained in 2010," said one senior team member, "after which I think market forces, and the possibility of reduced investment from sponsors as a result of the damage this dispute has done, could send expenditure into a natural free fall."

Currently the teams share 50% of the reputed annual $1bn commercial rights income, with Ecclestone and CVC taking the rest. Teams will continue to be paid through a complex formula which rewards not only recent race and qualifying performances but also overall positions in the constructors' championship during the previous two half-seasons.

Another issue to be resolved is the sport's expansion away from its European heartland, a matter thrown into fresh focus today by the Nürburgring circuit not being prepared to stage next year's German Grand Prix as a substitute for Hockenheim. "The only way we could manage it would be if Bernie reduced his fee," said Walter Kafitz, the Nürburgring managing director. "But I cannot imagine he is willing to accept my wishes.
