ok folks. I have discovered the maximum amount of power that can be lost. This number is about 16% of the maximum HP your car can show. This maximum amount is reached at approx. 62500miles/100,000km. I have also ran the car (FGT) another 5500miles to confirm this fact. So my FGT started with a maximum of 936HP, and finished up with 785, for a loss of very close to 16.1%. This also takes into account no oil changes or engine rebuilds. If you have seen different numbers please let me know.

So what happens to that number when you do an engine rebuild/change oil. How much of an effect do those methods have on reclaiming lost hp?

Another 500 miles and the engine will jump out of the bay and strangle you for being a horrible owner ^^

How long can you maintain max power with oil changes or does it go down no matter how much to change your cars' oil?

Wouldn't the X2010 go down to 1305 HP then? I've seen reports of it being at 130,000km and only losing 6 hp :\

Well, that just proves that this is life like stuff. In real life, a car can lose as much as 20% of its power over a 20 year period

Out of curiosity, how did you test this? That's a lot of miles. Did you just tie down the throttle or x button?

With the mk1 and mk2 golf GTi's they would actually produce more power with 30,000 miles than they did as new. My 1985 BMW Alpina was still hitting 186bhp with 235,000 miles on the clock!

That is because the engines need a few miles to free up. I'm guessing your BMW does a lot of motorway miles, the engine would have had an easier life than one that is used in a built up area.

well folks, bad news, i was incorrect, the car dropped another 1hp last night. Sorry. it had stopped at 785 for a long while then now it started dropping again. As for how i got this far, i used b-spec mostly. i had gotten to 67000miles. it didnt budge for over 5000 miles. it was dropping at a rate of 1hp per every 2700 miles. now i just will have to keep going i guess, hopefully bob will find the bottom for me. im now at 784hp

Indeed.. this is why I wanted to start a thread to collect data for oil change and overhauls, but I was quickly yelled at for not using the search button for that one thread that has power loss as percentiles that don't work for some of my cars and from some of the submitted information.. So I guess we'll never know.

Wouldn't it be more helpful or "realistic" to know what that loss is with oil changes?

Someone mentioned "real life" earlier. In real life, you wouldn't let your car go 60,000+ miles without an oil change.

I can see having the number not reflect engine rebuilds because they're unnecessary ... and somewhat "unrealistic" ... but oil changes are a part of a car's life, real or not.

I'm just saying ...

Those are probably true (I've done infrequent oil changes and engine rebuilds and lost about 10hp).
