Maxthon?

What's the deal with this browser? So far, it's even more customizable than Firefox, except it doesn't have as many plugins or extensions as Firefox. But I want to know what are the pros and cons other than appearance to using this browser?

Call it me being my paranoid self, but this:
Maxthon Access is a whole new FREE service that allows you to remotely access your home or office computer from another internet-connected computer - all through your Maxthon Browser. Want to play any tune in your music collection? Share a favorite photo? Access that file you forgot at home? If it's on your PC, and your PC is connected to the Internet, simply log on to Maxthon Access from your Maxthon Browser, select the computer you want to browse, and navigate to the file you need. Then you can choose whether to share it with a colleague, or download it for enjoying or editing.

It's easy - Learn More & Install Maxthon Access Now!.

doesn't sound right. I'm sure that it is entirely secure and there are few risks involved, but I think I'd pass on that.

The rest of it seems very much like Firefox. It might be worth a shot, but I've never tried it nor had an issue with Firefox to warrant a switch.

It's based on the IE core, so AFAIK you have all the bugs and flaws of Internet Explorer. A friend of mine has been a user of Maxthon (and MyIE2 before the namechange) but I've tried it a couple of times and I don't like the interface he had. Seemed a bit cluttered and crowded for my liking.

Yep. Its pretty much a dressed-up Internet Explorer.

having no ads or pop ups EVER makes it good enough for me :)

plus, it looks better than a ferrari F355 spider

Download it here. I'm not sure if it's the same version I use (it might of been updated) but it should be almost the same

I would just try and stick with FF or Opera and wait till FF v.2.0 is out, since switching to FF I have had only one problem and I solved that by doing a full re-install, since then no probs at all. Im sure your problems with FF could be fixed, they have a great help section over at mozilla.

I've used Maxthon once for about 2 weeks, and it's pretty much IE6 with tabs and some other goodies. I'd stick with Opera, though, because of the faster load times, better interface, and the security.

You're just paranoid. :P

I would go with Opera over Maxthon.

Speaking of tabbed browsers based on Internet Explorer, has anybody used Avant browser? Like Maxthon, it uses IE's core but adds features such as tabbed browsing, mouse gestures, and "speed improvements."

Well, I have tried both browsers (Opera several times in the past and now once again) and I would have to say Maxthon is waaaaay more customizable and user-friendly than Opera. I hate the layout of the toolbars in Opera, and it doesn't realy give you that much flexibility in rearranging them. As well, the navgation buttons are in a weird spot and are a little too small.

Maxthon even lets you put shortcuts to other programs on your computer right from the browser screen! I remember asking in another forum once if you could do this with IE (you can't). Anyway, I haven't noticed any real speed problems with Maxthon (in fact, it's been no better or faster than Opera in loading any page I have tried so far on both browsers). How fast does on need an internet page to load anyhow? I mean, all the browsers out there load most pages in under 10 seconds for sure now right? Dependin on your connection speed, yes I knw. But why is everyone in such a hurry? Do we not care what's on the internet, but what else is on the internet?

Well, slower page loads are an inconvenience. The text loads up first, but when you're trying to read it, images keep on loading, automatically scrolling the screen up and down, and it gets annoying. With a faster web browser, like Opera or Safari (GTP loads in a second for me), it cuts most of that annoyance out. It's like banner ads. You can live with them, but you'd rather get rid of them, and have a better online experience.
