Microsoft throw a lot of money at EA.

Pretty easy to explain. They were able to use it in exchange for usage of the Ferrari brand, which MS has exclusivity of on the 360. Do you just think that it's coincidence that Ferrari's showed up exclusively in the 360 version of NFS: Shift while Porsche somehow ended up in Forza 3, despite EA holding exclusivity of the brand on consoles?

Well ok then...I'm more of a Gran Turismo guy than a video game guy so I'm not so up on all this - thanks for the explanations. Shame PD doesn't do something to work it out:-( I do LOVE the RUFs though:-)

Where all of the problems are listed out so he can get around to fixing them. :dunce: Here are my gripes in no particular order, feel free to add to them as you see fit.

1. No brake upgrades.

2. Want to paint your car blue but haven't gotten the chip yet? Sorry, haven't heard of that color.

3. All of this research that they spent on cars and a lot of them don't handle the way they should. I get that a lot of people here may not have a lot of seat time with the real cars, or at all, but that Lotus challenge where it's on ice skates should be proof enough.

4. Synthesized car sounds. I will never ever understand this one.

5. Where's all this "realistic" damage I keep hearing about in the commercials? If you damage a standard car, you know what happens? It melts. Run into a wall doing 100mph? Don't worry, your headlight will just deform a little bit, no big deal, shake it off.

6. Car manufacturers are missing. Want to go buy a Porsche Carrera GT? A what? Never heard of it. How about a Cadillac? That some sort of new coffee maker?

7. Some car manufacturers only have one car for you to choose from in the new dealership section. When was the last time you saw a car lot that had only one model of car???

8. But don't worry, you can pick everything else up used! Eventually...

9. Except then you'll have to do $75k worth of maintenance to get it running like new again.

10. You only get one race for some of the challenges, I believe the Mini race is a good example of this.

11. They can release game settings for a steering wheel that hasn't even hit the market yet, but they can't patch the settings for the Logi G25/27???

12. Idiotic AI. All computer controlled cars must be a.)driven by elderly women who have been blinded in both eyes and b.)weigh 3 times the normal amount so as to plow you off the road more easily.

13. Shadows.

14. When driving a car, and you hit another car, it does not sound like two canoes banging together.

15. Prize cars need to be something special. I have been let down so many times so far.

16. Need more tracks. Spa, Bathurst, and Pikes Peak come to mind.

17. Realistic tuning. Try walking into a performance tuning shop and asking them to upgrade your Eclipse with a "Stage 3" package.

18. Menu Music. I've heard better while standing in an elevator. The problem is that everyone has different tastes when it comes to music, so you should be able to load your own.

19. Have I mentioned the AI and realistic handling? I saw a '74 Countach come in ahead of an '09 Murcielago the other day. In what world would this ever be possible? Maybe if the Murc was running on donuts?

20. Requiring a Lvl 24 car for a Lvl 23 race that may or may not show up in the used car lot.

21. Which leads me to... grinding. WoW this is not.

22. How hard would it be to make wheels interchangeable on standard cars?

23. Adjustable transmissions that aren't... adjustable.

24. I haven't played online yet, but from what I've read, no leaderboards or credits to be earned online?

-_- Another rant/wishlist thread? There are like, a million of these.

Brake upgrades you want? Go to one of the threads on car upgrades, there is one for sure. Want to paint cars? Go to the customization thread. Cars not handling like they should? Blame physics, it can't be perfect, and go to a thread on physics. Synthesized sounds? Go to the sound thread. Realistic damage? Damage thread. Porsche not in GT5? Go to the Porsche thread, if its still open, and maybe learn that they couldn't get Porsche because of licensing, and post in the car wishlist thread if you wish for it to be in GT5. Don't like spending 75k to get a used car to perfection again? Think about it, it's not cheap to restore a car's chassis and engine, maybe too expensive in GT5, but, what cars are you restoring here, Zondas? Think about it. Don't like that they don't have settings for the G25/27? Those aren't official GT wheels, the T500 RS is, and so was the DFGT, and the DFP. Idiotic AI? Go to the AI thread, where you will probably find out you haven't set them to expert, where they will have some sense. Shadows? there is a thread for that. Cars banging sound like canoes? Sound thread. Need more tracks? Note that modeling tracks aren't an easy task in any way, and go to the track wishlist thread. Realistic tuning? In real life, you have multiple brands, GT5 you don't. What else do you want them to tell you? Menu music? What do you want? Heavy metal in the background? Realistic AI? faster cars don't always have to beat slower cars. And what were the circumstances? Was the Countach in 1st and the Murcielago starting in 12th? Wheels on standard cars? We don't know how hard it would be ,but if it wasn't, don't you think they would've don it? Go to the standard car thread. Adjustable trannies? Tuning thread. Finally, online leaderboards and credits online. Leaderboards ,although cool, could be dominated with hackers etc. At least they're considering it. And credits online? Do you want to be punted off in every race? Many punters are driven by money to punt. Taking it out would probably reduce that.

How about exporting replays into something usable , you know, sorta like what they SAID the game would do in the first place.

So, Now are we "fanboys" or "complainers"? Can the
"complainers" complain in every thread but the "fanboys" can't post in this thread? lol I love you Internet, serious business

If you don't like the sound of sports cars, the REAL sound of sports cars, I'm afraid you're not much of a motorsports fan. Either that or you've never heard a real sports car in person.

What? I can't be bothered to go into discussion with you..

1) Add brake temps brakes too cold too hot brake fade, brakes catch on fire when too hot, warped rotors, etc then i will sign on for you to be able to spend 50k on carbon brakes or 80k on ceramic.

2) Paint i could sign on for paint shops should have had standard colors to paint stuff, and special chips you should earn for good once you buy a car of that color.

3) Put hard econo tires on a sports car and try to drive it, it will handle like crap. Other times bad handling is caused by the game forcing on some drivers aids that ruin the stock handling of the cars aka the lambo challenge.

4) Some of the cars sound great, some ok, some eh, but hey 1000 cars in a game and lots of games dont get the sounds spot on with a fraction of that number, not that excuses PD from for all their attention to detail playing with the sounds more to get them better.

5) Mechanical damage is getting patched in didn't you get the memo? But also standard cars will never have full damage far as i know only some premium and racing cars. Put me squarely in the camp that could have not cared less if GT had damage at all, also put me in the camp that says if they had not spent a year modeling 200 or so cars for full realisitc damage maybe we could have some other stuff fixed and done better.

6) Sue EA and for your favorite car maker not being in the game, and while your at sue them for snapping up exclusive rights to some sports licenses.

7) I wish the premium cars there were just more of period, You can only buy premium cars new off the dealers. While i rant on about the premium car issue why is the crap cappuccino a premium car?

8 and 9) buy a used race car with a few 1000s miles on it and expect it to be brand new? or not need work?

10) Game should have had more races more series period, bit baffling we got so many level to grind up and the list or races seems way way shorter than past gt games.

11) DO not have a g57 or g27 so i cannot comment, other than i know a ton of people seem to have no problem with them.

12) Would love to see GT AI get a major major upgrade, but seems the last of thier things they seem to care about period, lest we got online racing, where some people drive worse than the AI.

13) Shadows getting fixed supposedly in the december patch, guess you do not keep up with the news eh?

14) Meh of all the things to complain about, object of racing is generally not to hit other cars, course with the AI it makes it hard not to hit other cars but still......

15) Prize cars do seem pretty blech, for the vast majority of series. For the cost to buy some cars would have been nice to gain some good cars along the way especially since races do not pay out a ton.

16) Happy with the track selection myself, more tracks is always good but enough tracks to keep me racing a good long while.

17) Just be moderate in your tune buys if you want to "keep it real." Nothing says you have to get every weight and engine upgrade many of which push the bounds of common sense especially on the high end exotics.

18) You can already maybe read the instruction manual?

19) AI is AI b spec guys are no better give them a 600hp car in a 200 hp field and watch them either run the car into wall or off the road if you tell them to pace up or watch them let the entire field catch then you you tell them to pace down, pace down in a 600 hp car means take it steady not slow boat.

20) I am not overly impressed with the whole level system, the old license tests for tiers was far better than this run series over and over, it is especially annoying as all heck for b spec.

21) See above.

22) Not sure what you are getting at here.

23) Signed here this is far far too annoying epsecially when the thing costs so much and yet does nothing, compounded by the fact then tuning some cars being able to adjust the individual gears is key when you got 500, 600, 1000 hp monsters.

24) they are adding cr and xp i think also for online at some point. Maybe just race now for fun?

Funny to see how many people are absolutely convinced they know better about making games than game developers with tens of years of experience.

Truly funny :D

PS: I don't know how much time you spent on "real cars", but you sure didn't spend much time on a lotus elise (or on any high end MR, really) without traction control and with low end tires if you think the lotus challenge is anywhere unrealistic :D

You can adjust gear ratios already. Just get a racing trans and go to the nob symbol next to the item in the tuning functions.

Yeah but you can't tweak individual gear ratios, just the final drive. Or is this something that opens up once you hit a certain level?

You do realise that PD recieves more funding for GT than T10 recieves for fm?

From memory while GT had a budget of something like 60 million dollars, Both fm2 and fm3 shared a budget of less than 25 million dollars between them. I thought fanboys were asked to stay away from this thread. Please try to keep an objective and truthful point of view when trying to tear this fellows legitimate list of shortcomings apart.

There will be reasons why Porsche isn't in the game and why there are no G25/G27 settings in the game and it usually to do with money.

Wonder why the destroyed the replays, I can't even zoom in(like I could in GT5P) and as soon as I touch something a ugly menu pops up.

The "replaymode" was much better in GT4 and GT5P. What happend to synchronized replay and the possibility
to turn on/off the music with the squarebutton?

Press triangle for zoom, i believe this still works as i accidentally did it the other day.

When I'm pressing the triangle button the ugly replay menu pops up:ouch:

Are you even in replay mode? If you are, select remove on screen gauges/visuals, then press triangle when certain cameras are in use, zoom doesn't work in all camera views. I have cycled through camera views as well, just no fast forward, skip Forward or skip to next lap like GT2.

Hmmm, I just tested it out and it doesnt seem to work, Strange indeed becasue i was watching a replay the other day, something i rarely do, and was definately zooming in.

Going back for some more testing just to satisfy myself I wasnt halucinating!

YAWN.

Why do people feel the need to start new threads for stuff that's already being discussed in any number of other threads... do they feel the need to see their name in lights or something.

Boring.

So what you are saying is that Porshce is not exclusive to EA, just PD did not negotiate to use them in GT5? You know, negotiate a license deal like they had to with every other car they use with whoever holds the license for those cars?

How do you know that they didn't do just that? But EA likely paid a ton of money in order to secure that license so a sub-license would likely also cost another developer a lot. Those manufacturers that you mentioned don't act like that though. Their cars appear in even the smallest games, so it's pretty clear that they aren't asking for a significant amount of cash in order for games to include them.

The best GT and Porsche fans can hope for is that EA's contract will run out. When that happens then they'll almost certainly appear in the series as Kaz has made it clear that Porsche is his main target as far as manufacturers go right now.

Having witnessed this myself, I have just watched 4 completely different replays, and havent been able to replicate this again.

Too much GT sending me slightly mad? lol

I get some of the complaints, like the lack of brake upgrades. It's one part of the game that doesn't really make sense, since the FIRST thing I did when I went to the track was swap the pads and fluid.

But there are some that are just plain stupid, like:

3. All of this research that they spent on cars and a lot of them don't handle the way they should. I get that a lot of people here may not have a lot of seat time with the real cars, or at all, but that Lotus challenge where it's on ice skates should be proof enough.

Ever driven a real rear drive car? They all do that, especially if you have ****** tires. The Lotus challenge wasn't unrealistic. You just happen to be on a highspeed track with a very stiff chassis and ****** tires. That is what happens (trust me. I took an AWD car to the track with all season tires once. NOT fun.)

4. Synthesized car sounds. I will never ever understand this one.

All games use synthesized car sounds... There's only so much they can do with recording the real thing (ala GT-R), but once they have to put it in the game, they need to match frequencies with the rpms and whatnot.

5. Where's all this "realistic" damage I keep hearing about in the commercials? If you damage a standard car, you know what happens? It melts. Run into a wall doing 100mph? Don't worry, your headlight will just deform a little bit, no big deal, shake it off.

It's only available at level 40 IIRC.

6. Car manufacturers are missing. Want to go buy a Porsche Carrera GT? A what? Never heard of it. How about a Cadillac? That some sort of new coffee maker?

As mentioned, Porsche license is held by EA. Nothing PD can do about it. As for Cadillac..., really? The only decently fast car with an interesting background they have is the CTS-V. If they put Cadillac in there, you're going to complain about dealerships that have only one car (like in #7). What, you wanted to drive an STS around the ring?

7. Some car manufacturers only have one car for you to choose from in the new dealership section. When was the last time you saw a car lot that had only one model of car???

Tesla dealership.

9. Except then you'll have to do $75k worth of maintenance to get it running like new again.

Have you never bought a used car? If you did so IRL, you'd have to pour money in too just to get it running like new.

12. Idiotic AI. All computer controlled cars must be a.)driven by elderly women who have been blinded in both eyes and b.)weigh 3 times the normal amount so as to plow you off the road more easily.

If you go to the track in real life with a race organization (like NASA and SCCA), that's what they teach you anyway. "Stay in your line, let the other guy pass." In a real race, nobody is going to give you space.

13. Shadows.

I still don't get what people are talking about when they talk about shadows in GT5. Maybe I've been too focused on going fast so I never had time to see it.

14. When driving a car, and you hit another car, it does not sound like two canoes banging together.

What does it sound like?

15. Prize cars need to be something special. I have been let down so many times so far.

No they don't. You should get a Vitz for finishing a low end race.

17. Realistic tuning. Try walking into a performance tuning shop and asking them to upgrade your Eclipse with a "Stage 3" package.

"Realistic tuning" is not what you think it is. If you go swap out your cams for ones with a different profile, you need to do other things to complement your new cams too (like ECU tuning!). Try tuning a real car. Building an engine is not as simple as simple swapping out one type of piston for another. Not to mention, the more power you make, the more upgrades you have to perform on other parts, which would be a form of "Stage tuning". GT5's system makes sense.

18. Menu Music. I've heard better while standing in an elevator. The problem is that everyone has different tastes when it comes to music, so you should be able to load your own.

You can.

19. Have I mentioned the AI and realistic handling? I saw a '74 Countach come in ahead of an '09 Murcielago the other day. In what world would this ever be possible? Maybe if the Murc was running on donuts?

Better driver. Not everyone you see driving on a race track is as good as the other. You can have a fast car, but with a slow driver, you're ending up in last place. Conversely, if you have a slow car and a fast driver, he or she is more likely to win.

21. Which leads me to... grinding. WoW this is not.

Go play online with other people. It's loads of fun!

22. How hard would it be to make wheels interchangeable on standard cars?

Very. Especially if they're just ported over from GT4. I don't think GT4 had interchangeable wheels (I may be wrong. It was a long time ago), and even if you could in GT4, they're using a new engine in GT5. If they had eliminated the Standard/Premium system, it'd take them about 50,000 hours or so (IIRC he said 50 man hours per premium car). Then it'd take another couple of years to release..., in which case, MORE WHINING.

23. Adjustable transmissions that aren't... adjustable.

Uh..., real life transmissions aren't either. You can swap out gears and replace them with ones of a different ratio, but there is no slider that you can move to adjust them. I think Kaz only allowed the final drive adjustment to shut some people up. Frankly, he should've made it so it costs money for every adjustment you make.

Where all of the problems are listed out so he can get around to fixing them. :dunce: Here are my gripes in no particular order, feel free to add to them as you see fit.

1. No brake upgrades. You already have sport brakes and the brake ballance controller on the car. Take a close up of some of those brakes. The Challenger has Brembo brakes, and I would assume ALL cars are already upgraded with better brakes.

2. Want to paint your car blue but haven't gotten the chip yet? Sorry, haven't heard of that color. How about you just buy a blue car. There's several cars in several shades of blue. Quit crying about it and think.

3. All of this research that they spent on cars and a lot of them don't handle the way they should. I get that a lot of people here may not have a lot of seat time with the real cars, or at all, but that Lotus challenge where it's on ice skates should be proof enough. Actually, the cars seem to handle like they should to me. The Lotus is an extremely lightweight car one street tires with a lot of power for it's size. If you learn to feather the brakes and actually make an effort to learn how to control the car, you might actually beat the Lotus Challenge.

4. Synthesized car sounds. I will never ever understand this one. I don't even understand this complaint. 98% of the sounds are accurate. I'm sure the remaining ones are being fixed and will be updated with a patch. Stop crying over split milk.

5. Where's all this "realistic" damage I keep hearing about in the commercials? If you damage a standard car, you know what happens? It melts. Run into a wall doing 100mph? Don't worry, your headlight will just deform a little bit, no big deal, shake it off. The damage system is level based. 10 minutes of smashing into walls at level 1 won't get you as much damage as 10 minutes of smashing into the wall at level 30. Also, there's going to be a damage update in the next patch.

6. Car manufacturers are missing. Want to go buy a Porsche Carrera GT? A what? Never heard of it. How about a Cadillac? That some sort of new coffee maker? This is simply bitching. We've known for about 4 years that Porsche wasn't going to be in. I mean Kaz came right out and said "No, Porsche won't be in." It's impressive how many people still don't know this. I'm sure Cadillac has some stupid exclusive licenses with Microsoft. But, at least you have the Cien.

7. Some car manufacturers only have one car for you to choose from in the new dealership section. When was the last time you saw a car lot that had only one model of car??? This is even more bitchy than the last one. I don't even know how to respond to this. I mean, so what? This is just bitching to bitch.

8. But don't worry, you can pick everything else up used! Eventually...Yeah, this is how it's worked since GT1. What's your point?

9. Except then you'll have to do $75k worth of maintenance to get it running like new again. Not always. The cost of repairs is dependant on the cost of the car...just like in real life. In real life, you're not going to pay $100 to repair an Mercedes' engine, are you? Idiot.

10. You only get one race for some of the challenges, I believe the Mini race is a good example of this. Another example of bitching just to bitch. All the single make races have only one race. Get over it.

11. They can release game settings for a steering wheel that hasn't even hit the market yet, but they can't patch the settings for the Logi G25/27??? A patch is actually coming for this. Don't be stupid and keep up with the latest news.

12. Idiotic AI. All computer controlled cars must be a.)driven by elderly women who have been blinded in both eyes and b.)weigh 3 times the normal amount so as to plow you off the road more easily.More crying, I see. The AI does get a lot better at higher levels. Heck, in the endurance races, they'll even move out of your way as you lap them.

13. Shadows. Already explained. Kaz knows about the issue, said there were many factors why they aren't better, but Kaz does want to fix it.

14. When driving a car, and you hit another car, it does not sound like two canoes banging together. Get in your car and run into another car. Surprisingly, it sounds exactly like that. Why? Modern cars are mostly made of plastic and aluminium alloys....much like more modern canoes. Try watching a race sometime and listen to the in-car sound when two cars collide. GT captured pretty nicely.

15. Prize cars need to be something special. I have been let down so many times so far. This is actually a good point, but there are a few good prize cars, you just have to work for those. But, then again, you can't get prize cars more than once, so there really isn't any need to have really nice prize cars.

16. Need more tracks. Spa, Bathurst, and Pikes Peak come to mind. MORE crying. I'm not even going to respond to this one.

17. Realistic tuning. Try walking into a performance tuning shop and asking them to upgrade your Eclipse with a "Stage 3" package. Actually, believe it or not, that is VERY realistic. If you did that, I bet you most shops would know what you're talking about. Reducing the Weight in a car is done in 3 stages. There are also multiple levels of performance parts. Like there is a Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 Turbos. They all do different things and have different HP upgrades.

18. Menu Music. I've heard better while standing in an elevator. The problem is that everyone has different tastes when it comes to music, so you should be able to load your own. You could just turn it off. But I guess that would be too easy, wouldn't it.

19. Have I mentioned the AI and realistic handling? I saw a '74 Countach come in ahead of an '09 Murcielago the other day. In what world would this ever be possible? Maybe if the Murc was running on donuts? Racing isn't always about the power of the car, but the skill of the driver. I mean, look at Team Corvette. They're go up against cars that, stock, would destroy them, yet they have such good drivers that they win...A LOT! There was an episode of Top Gear where they had the Queen of the Nurburgring Racing a Ford Transit Van around the Ring and she was passing Porsches and BMWs and several other cars because she was just a better driver.

20. Requiring a Lvl 24 car for a Lvl 23 race that may or may not show up in the used car lot. What? Where? You do know there are OTHER cars you can use for those races, right? You don't HAVE to have a level 24 car, you're just an idiot.

21. Which leads me to... grinding. WoW this is not. It's an RPG. It comes with the territory.

22. How hard would it be to make wheels interchangeable on standard cars? The rims in GT5 were designed for the Premium cars, and thus have a higher polygon count. A premium rim on a standard car would look REALLY stupid. I mean, the rim would probably have more polygons than the car it's on. It would look bad.

23. Adjustable transmissions that aren't... adjustable. This is minor, if you ask me. You can adjust the top speed slider. Which gives you a wide range of gear lengths.

24. I haven't played online yet, but from what I've read, no leaderboards or credits to be earned online? Leaderboards, experience and credits from online races are coming in a update.

Answers:

Go play online with other people. It's loads of fun!

Please tell me you're kidding. I've tried to play online for the past 3 days for a few hours each session and did not finish a single race.
First of all, its filled with the bugs. Half the time you start on the grid but facing the wall so you can't even do a proper launch. Crash dynamics are worse online than they are in single player. One little bump and you're flying off the track.
People thought online in Prologue was bad but that was way more organized than what we have now. You get people in zondas and civics in one race. I understand that you can put restrictions, but even those aren't enough. Only limit hp? I was side by side with someone today on the la sarthe straight. He did a sarcastic "oops" on his mic and slammed into the wall. I went from 1st to last and just got annoyed and shut it off.
Why did they take out the online events? That was so fun and you even got money for it. Bring those back let people race in predetermined events. I tried to play today and all i came across was either drifting, free run on the nurburging, or nascar.
What happened to the PP system? That is the best way to measure the car class. Yes it wasn't perfect in Prologue but instead of scrapping it they should have just improved on it a little more.

I swear sometimes GT5 feels like it came out before Prologue. Too many features are missing that we had before.

Edit: I was laughing at how stupid this was today while playing the game.

Bought an evo IX from the premium dealership. Went to fix it up in the tuning shop. Put a stage one turbo upgrade on it, which was +40hp. Okay not accurate but I'll live. The difference from a stage 1 to a stage 2 turbo upgrade was 10hp!!! A stage 2 equivalent upgrade on the evo should put it in 550whp range!! Why would anyone spend 15,000c for 10hp when you can spend 450c and get an air filter that gives you 15hp. And why can't you supercharge M3s and M5s? Many companies have kits for both cars.

All you guys that are defending the game, get your heads out of the ground. It's a great game, but the OP made some good points. Why not try to make the already good game better for your own enjoyment instead of trying to defend it??

I agree with pretty much everything!

Yeah so I win the Lupo challenge with my Lupo cup car and for a reward I get.... Sweet another stock Lupo! Awesome! Also the no replays for 2 player really sucks. Me and my best buddies have epic races all the time and I always find us watching the replays in gt4

Worse is that you win a Lupo Cup Car for beating the Lupo Series in b-spec. Which means, by the enf of the game you will have 3 Lupos, when you only need 1 :\

I love the "Fanboys Stay Out" tag. You can't tell fanboys to stay out of a thread when you POST ON A FANSITE!

Fix the god damn headlights so I can beat the toscana challenge. No way in hell are lambo xenons as strong as my flashlight

Turn your TVs brightness up, set my TV to max for that race and it was almost like driving in daylight, old Doom 3 trick, never fails:)
