My only thought is: Cash dollars.

Mazda is already achieving pretty high fuel economy ratings just with simple engineering. I'm doubting that they want to make the major investment on designing an engine to take a turbo when everything is already going pretty well. Plus, more weight... And since they're the only automaker to have figured out that weight = bad, well, it doesn't seem like a thing they'd do.

But, hey, if they're going to do another wenkel, that thing better have mad turbos, yo.

Why won't Mazda turbocharge? That is the question.
Most likely because of how complex the SKYACTIV-G engine is, but the SKYACTIV-D engine is essentially a turbodiesel, so I don't see why not.

Mitsubishi build off-roaders and those funny mid engined things that a lot of teachers seem to drive. They also make VHS tapes and CRTs. They'll be fine.

Good thing they're diversified in things like dodo-tending, DDT manufacturing, slave-holding, movable-type, leisure-suit manufacturing, leech hatcheries, Dalkon shields, bias-ply tires, flamingo shoes, Rube Goldberg services, children's asbestos wear, rotary phones, DC power distribution kits, chest merkins, and have billions in land grants from Prussian authorities, or they'd be completely sunk.
