Really? I'm not saying you're wrong, but Rotora's seem to be pretty popular among the TL crowd.
The problem is that TLs aren't too popular with the racing crowd.

But, if what you say is the case, then I might as well upgrade to some bigger brembos than what's on.
I didn't know they were Brembos, but if that's the case, there's no way in hell I'd switch those out for some Rotora units. If anything, I'd get those kits that let you run a bigger rotor, and then use the extra money saved on a awesome set of Stasis 2-piece rotors and a nice set of pads. They'd be just as effective (if not more) and you'd still have a braking system engineered to last the entire lifetime of the car.

I do plan on tracking the car, but I'm surprised by your comment about Tein. I know they're hyped to hell by the import crowd, but the SS kit has never been something I would consider crap. I've seen the kit in person at Jotech and it looks like a pretty solid kit to me. Haven't really read any negatives about them, either.
Have you seen a set of K-Sport coilovers, or maybe D2? They look awesome, very solid and high quality, but their dampers just aren't up to par, and that's what's going to keep your wheels on the ground.

Teins will work of course, but it's really an entry level set-up. I think some Koni/GC stuff would be more "bang for the buck" but it's still a very "cost effective" set-up rather than simply being good.

What's funny about the D2s and the K-Sports is that they can be turned upwards and not just downwards. That means stiff :) Or do you mean that keeping your wheels on the ground is a bad thing? Koni/GC also goes low, it's what most of the Honda crowd do.

I'll take your advice, then, & check this equipment out. :)👍

If your don't bother to educate yourself on what a proper damper is I'm not going to waste my time explaining it. Just save a few seconds of your life next time and don't bother making comments on subjects you don't know anything about.

I'm really hoping you were making a joke.

/facepalm

I only comment on things I know, not things I've read in a book or on the internet... I've ran coilovers that are similar to the K-Sports, with the lower mount screwed on the collars and not welded, dampers have not been a problem for me. If I turned the springs downwards maybe, but I increased the pre-load and have been smiling ever since.

I still don't get your comment on keeping your wheels on the ground.. You can elaborate on that instead of being arrogant.. :)

Unfortunately the actual factual information on "the internet" and in books is better and more credible than your "experience", provided one actually knows where to search for correct information and has a decent understanding of physics.

Dampers not a problem? Thats subjective. A shock dyno isn't.

When I say keeping the wheels on the ground, I'm talking about the damper effectively keeping your tires in contact with the ground and gripping. Your spring is a constant unless you've got progressive springs, so your damper is the piece that dictates whether your car bounces all over the place or effectively makes the best use of each tire while keeping the car balanced.

You realize in order for a suspension to work correctly, you need the dampers to have proper rates? Otherwise your springs will keep bouncing, thus the awesome bob that cars with blown shocks have.

Dampers are more important the handling of the car than the springs.

That's really the main thing that makes one brand better than the other. A lot of companies simply use springs from other manufacturers to save time and money. I know Ohlins, well known as a high end company, just uses Eibach Springs in their coilovers, they just develop the damper.

Good & Bad news today.

Bad news is that somebody hit my baby tonight. Nothing serious, but enough to piss me off. Coming from work to head to lunch, I saw someone had hit my driver's mirror hard enough to scrap the paint to the metal and nearly dislocate the mirror. Then, this same person had managed to put 2-3 cuffs into the rear wheel. 🤬🤬🤬 Had to have been a big pickup.

Good news is that the exhaust is finished and is now ready to be shipped.

Now you have an excuse to get new wheels... I hate people that hit your ar and don't leave a note... When my sister had my car a bus in SF hit her when she was in the middle of traffic... Golden Gate Transit says its not there fault... What BS, my dad is trying take them to court.

But that sucks man, thank god for insurance... And can't wait to hear the new exaust. Do a video when you get it installed.

It's becoming that way isn't it? :D

I'm amazed they'd fight that. Bus companies usually settle to avoid bad reputation. Good luck. 👍

Will do. Also trying to do a video pre-exhaust as well. :)

'Ello, what's this? :D

Looks like a nondescript box to me. Might be a bomb. Watch out! :sly:

Congrats on the exhaust. Have you opened it up to see what it looks like?

Not yet. Keeping it closed til' my buddy gets here. We're going to get it installed at his house since he won't bring his jacks here. :grumpy:

You're a car guy and you don't have jacks?! :scared: Well at least you have a friend that has jacks.
My house seems to be the house on the street that has all the tools you'll ever need to take apart and put together a car.

But srsly go pick up some jacks sometime soon. If you're going to be doing work on the TL a alot its worth it to have them at your disposal.

I did plan on buying a set til' I read some poor reviews. If you have a brand you recommend, I'd gladly look into them.

Well I just had a look outside at ours and we have Powerbuilt 4 ton stands. You can leave a car up on them for an infinitely long time. And once they're up, you can do anything you want underneath the car for how much clearance there is.

http://www.powerbuilttools.co.nz/powerbuiltliftequipment.htm

Thats the only site I could find on them. But I'd assume you could pretty much go anywhere and pick them up.

If that doesn't work out, just ask what your buddy has and go with that.

Kudos, mate. Might just pick up some axle stands then as well. :)👍

No problem. If you're gonna be a car guy you might as well have the basics 👍

I did a bit more clicking and apparently Alltrade bought out Powerbuilt so I found the American site for you from that.

http://www.alltradetools.com/EN-1803.htm

That should be a lot easier than trying to find stuff from New Zealand.

Jack stands, man. Go to Sears and pick up some Craftsman stands for...

20 bucks, apparently. Each one of these will support 4500 pounds safely, which is more than your whole car. Looks like they also have a shallow support on top which works better for most cars' jack points. I've got four (not craftsman) that I got from Harbor Freight for a good price. I use the jack points on at the front and rear of my car to jack up up and then place the stands at the two points on either side of the car, and then I can set the whole thing up level, two feet off the ground. Score.

Put 43 miles on the new exhaust today. It is absolutely menacing. The low end torque has returned from when I had the race pipe put in. It is a tad loud though, as at 2,000, it becomes known. Still getting used to that constant pitch. But, going under bridges, it is...orgasmic as my buddy pit it. Definitely want to run it through a tunnel now. :D

I'll attempt to get some videos tomorrow of rolls from 30 or 40mph, as well as some pics. :)

Race pipe? Test pipe? Dude, if you want some sound get rid of those converters. That'll liven her up! Then you'll actually be able to hear the engine, instead of listening to it through a platinum sponge.

This might sound a little random but every once in a while random forums for cars will have group buy on jack stand and stuff. You might want to check into some of those even if you don't own the car the website is for.

Nice car though. 👍

I've already gotten rid of the 3rd cat (Race Pipe). I'll be looking at getting rid of the other 2 by the end of the summer.

3 Cats? God I'm glad I like Mustangs. Replace the midpipe and you're good to go. 160 bucks.

Either way, where's your video?? I wanna know how it sounds!
