McLaren F1, does this car sucks?

Ok let's not get crazy, there is no Group C car the Maclaren is more stable than, none(unless you mean that Toyota 7). All of those things are just short of Formula 1 race cars, their road grip is immense, cornering speeds are borderline ridiculous and their handling is the best in the game, only the LMP's can out turn them(F1's aren't in this, those are guided missles). The Maclaren is awesome, but even the CLK-GTR has better road holding abilities, but the Mac is just soo sweet to drive.

Ditto.
The car has incredible cool factor with it's awesome looks. It is nearly as fast as the LMP's, but with LM handling. Slap a turbo on a Zonda Race car and there you have it.

I'm surprised they didn't include the backflip machine CLR.

Um...

Do I need to post a video of the actual accident you are refferencing?

Just in case you weren't sure of it...

The CLK-GTR in GT4 is the "back flip" machine.
The car that did the back flips at Le Mans?
Yeah, that's the CLK-GTR from GT4 alright.

I have the video on my pc.
Since I'm not going to take the time to resize the file and post it in a zip folder, I suggest you do a google search to find the video for yourself. 👍

In any case, the CLK GTR from GT4 is the "back flips" machine (cause it actually does approximately 3 flips!).

Close. "The back-flip Mercedes", was, in fact, the CLR. Not the CLK-GTR.

CLR:

CLK-GTR:

See the difference? :)

This is the CLR (one of them) that "backflipped" at Le Mans:
CLR_Flip.jpg

Man that CLR was U-G-L-Y. Has more in common in looks with the Peugot 905 Race car, I believe that CLR was more or less closer to the LMP's than the GT1 spec CLK-GTR.
I did some reading on it, it was stated that the cause of the car "backflipping" was none other than it's suspension settings, the rear was too high, therefore at the speeds which it was going, where downforce and lift is extremely crucial, rigidity of the rear suspension keeping the suspension from dispensing the load through ample bound, it got that brick like movement, lifting the front ever so slightly, enough to get hundreds of pounds of aeroforce under the car, resulting in the car doing a 2 and a half back flip. This happened twice, MB just pulled out after that, considering each car was worth over 2.5 million, ouch.

I wish that MB would get back in there, break out that CLR design and do some refinements, keep the Naturally Aspirated 627hp engine, and go after those Audi's. Ever since i first laid eyes on it, the CLK-GTR has just been a car that i just adore, it's styling was just too sweet, it's engine may have that European purr, but it's still one hell of a sweet car.

Talk about off topic, lol.
Really the Maclaren is a top drive, very few race cars look as good, in their street clothes, the "Mac" is the only one that pulls it off. To the Legend that is Maclaren F1 GTR LM, hat's off.
GT5 needs to add this car, along with a list of others, including the Dauer Porsche 962, I dream of the day I boot up GT5 on PS3 and head out online to race some of the worlds best on le Sarthe, or on the 962's stomping ground Nürburgring Nordschleife. I'll see you guys there in 2007, till then we'll just talk bout it here.

Now I'm just confused...

First off, I've found some sources that support what you say... That being... The CLR did the back flips.

However, I find the pictures you used odd since they don't look anything like the LeMans back flip.

In any case, if it was the CLR I stand corrected (along with tons and tons of video sites on the net!). :D
If not, it doesn't really matter. ;)

Here is a picture I found, along with the video of the actual flip.

The video...

(racing flix may not let you download right now... but look below :D )

A Zipped folder with the video included is attached.

Edit:
I do think it was the CLR after checking this out...
http://historique.lemans.org/ACO/Marque/search.php3?lg=eng&s=d

However, I still think that first picture is odd.
Also, from what I can tell, the CLK-GTR became the CLK LM and the CLK LM became the CLR. :boggled:

Basically, I think the CLR was the car to flip, however, I don't trust that photo from mid-flip (nothing about that picture matches the actual footage of the flip).

Well, that video is the same vid in it's original quality (I had to shrink mine for the sake of posting it).

I can't say it was as clear to me as it was to everyone else but none the less, I stand corrected.

More so because of the LeMans History searches I did (and linked) than anything else.

Oh well, maybe you guys could give me credit for being big enough to admit my mistakes? ;)

Anyway, enough of that...
Back on subject.

McLaren F1 Racecar. :D

btw, I still can't make sense of that flip picture with the other mercs in it... Where are those cars in the video footage and where is the bridgestone banner the car disappears behind?

That's gonna bother me for some time to come I can tell. :irked:
I mean, that banner can't just disappear.

And how come that picture has the car flipping in the middle of the track and not off to the side and into the woods?!

I wonder if that photo had some work done to it somewhere along the way?
(not to say it was done by a GTP member though)

Different videos combined maybe? There were three incidents which involved a flipping CLR...

Well whatever the case it is time to move on. :D

Savage Evil, check your PMs. 👍
(a formal apology of sorts ;) )

Now back to the McLaren talk already!!!

No for real though, no more off topic chat (even though I am guilty as hell for perpetuating it :guilty: )

Anyway,
I plan on winning the GTWC to get a GT mode McLaren for some in-depth testing.

However, beating the GTWC is something that may take a bit of time and if I'm going to do it I want to do it right.

That said...
Bob/ OG,
If you know of a good GTWC discussion thread please feel free to bring it back to life so we can have a little talk about a fun car to use and win with... And not just those JGTC cars that I know you love to win the GTWC with. :D

I'm looking for something that will not take as much work to win with, but at the same time I would like to run something that does give me a bit of a challenge.

Maybe I should use the CLK GTR.
But this is discussion for another thread... Now if I only knew what thread to do it in. :banghead:

Btw, Savage Evil,
Glad to see you got my PM. 👍

Yea, I was looking at the vids and flipping through some papers at the same time. The flip i remember was the one during the race, i think that that one is from qualifying. The race flip was on the way down the hunadiares just at the down hill, that car was smashed to bits.

Back to topic, hope we answered your question there fella, anyone know where he went? lol.
