I did a blunt search about this to no answer.

Would I be kicked from a JGTC/Super GT Lobby for using the car that was used by the 1996 JGTC Driver's Champions, Mclaren F1 GTR Race Car '97?

I'm asking because in the car's description, there is no mention of JGTC history but this section of the wikipedia page on it says:

McLarens would return though in 1999 with Team Take One purchasing McLaren F1 GTR #19R, a 1997-spec car, for competition in GT500.

The McLaren F1 that raced in JGTC would have to have been restricted in some way, otherwise they'd have blown the Japanese cars into the weeds. So yes, given that the BMW FINA McLaren F1 is much faster, you would probably be kicked.

We don't have the car that won the 96 JGTC, back then it was run to GT1 regulations (for the top class, GT2 was also there) so against era competition it'd be even. However GT1 ran to something like 600hp+ and under 1000kg weight so today those cars would blow the GT500 cars away on the straights, downforce wise the GT500 cars would have the advantage.

The closest comparison would be the '97 TOMS Castrol Supra, and the McLaren in the game blows it out of the water.

Funny thing is you'd also be kicked or asked to change cars if you showed up with a Lamborghini Diablo GT-1 (which raced in the GT500 class of the JGTC) :dunce:

I've only used the Lambo once in my friend's Super GT enduro and was allowed to use it, but the phone rang after I got punted on the first turn at Fuji after starting 2nd (setup and skill were good. polesitter's was better), thus getting disconnected.

Depending on who the host is, it comes down to ignorance.

It wouldn't be fair to race the McLaren F1 anyway. Even if you downgrade it to 500hp, it'll still have a torque advantage, since I think it has a big V12 6L engine compared to the usual 3.5L GT500 cars, and probably better aerodynamics due to its big long wing.

The actual 1996 F1 GTR would be alot fairer even if restricted HP wise, it's just too bad we haven't got it in game....

However, the F1 Stealth is pretty close if restricted to 500hp.

EDIT: Just put the Supra (500hp/1150kg) up against the F1 Stealth (500hp/1150kg) with both set to max downforce, 330km/h top speed, etc and got a 1:20.503 with the Supra vs a 1:20.308 with the F1 Stealth at Trial Mountain, not much in it really.

I think I'm gonna detune the F1 GTR a lot to get it to an acceptable level and report back soon. And this will be the biggest detuning of a racecar I've ever done in GT5.

Tested a 495 hp ARTA NA2 NSX (2006) at Suzuka GP for a fast lap of 2:02.4.

Detuned the F1 GTR to 451 hp and 1120 kg, then compared it to the ghost of the NSX. 2:03.361 was the best I could manage. The Honda will (braces for insults) destroy the F1 GTR on tracks with High Speed sections, just as the F1, even handicapped, will annihilate anything that dare attempt to commit pass interference in the corners.
