i just bought a mclaren f1 and i want it to be able to compete with Le-Mans type race cars. The car is fast but it doesn't feel as stable as high speeds as a legit "race car." I was thinking of converting so it is similar to a McLaren F1 LM (which is not in the game as far as i know).

Anyone done this? What are the specs for a racing-competitive McLaren F1 LM? What upgrades, etc?

There is an F1 GTR in this game, the long tail one from '97. It's standard though and over the credit limit for trading so far as I know.

You can look at the settings for it and try it out, but with a tuned road car the downforce will be nowhere close to the GTR Race Car in this game.

I think there are some aerodynamics parts with which you can make it look close to the F1 LM ;) about other upgrades, i don't know.. obviously racing tires

No oil change, no engine upgrades (The race car had 600bhp)
Full weight reduction
Aero kit
Racing gearbox and drivetrain parts
Racing suspension

Also what you want is to copy the Mclaren F1 GTR and not the LM. The LM is a road car built to celebrate the win at Lemans. Buying the Aero kit in the game does actually give the Mclaren F1 road car the racing level downforce (20 front, 45 rear I think).

You can up-spec the road version Mac F1 to Mac F1 GTR standards (which is just a front splitter and rear spoiler really). Interestingly, all the race version McLaren F1's (that raced in FIA sanctioned races) all had slightly less hp than the road version due to needing to run air restrictors.

That's nothing. Race cars in GT go to about 40/60 downforce or more.

Depends on the car

More like class of car from my experience. I think just about every Super GT is 40/60 or 45/65.

My Viper GTS-R is 50/70 and I think the Z06 RM and GT Spec II are about the same, the LMP's more, and the F1's even more.

The little touring cars like the BMW 320 is around 40/60 too, but I'm not really sure.

For some reason PD decided to make it impossible to have road cars match race car downforce.

You should really go with the Longtail. The aerodynamics are far superior duo to the long wheelbase and longer overhangs.

You can buy a McLaren F1 and put an aero kit on which will make it look just like the F1 LM. That's what I did and I love it. :)

The F1 LM can be replicated by adding front splitter, rear spoiler and by tuning the engine to anywhere between 660 and 680 BHP. Then you add all the suspension/drivetrain upgrades etc.

I ain't no Mac!

Sorry, had to :P.

From what I can gather it was also geared to hit about 180mph instead of the 240mph the road car was capable of!

This video should make essential viewing, just make sure the speakers are turned up loud!!! ...

Really? Maybe I've just chosen the wrong cars to put a front spoiler on, or perhaps I've just missed some detail here, but I've found that front spoilers in GT5 (when added to road cars) don't seem to actually do anything.

Which is to say that, in my experience, adding the front spoiler to a road car will change the looks, but when you go into the aerodynamics options under tuning there's no way to actually give the car downforce at the front, only at the rear.

The F1 LM has a top speed of 225 MPH, mainly due to the added drag and the F1 GTR hit 206 MPH down the Mulsanne straight in 1996 24h LeMans.
Oh and yeah, the sound is AWESOME! :D

It adds front downforce but non adjustable, I'm pretty sure its 20 downforce on the front, I'm not sure what the rear is, I've not had a chance to check this but i think its 45, if not then 60.

The McLaren F1 has 20 front downforce even without front aero parts. Rear downforce without aero parts is not displayed.

Mclaren F1s are a very stable and challengeing car. Its best to put the splitter and spoiler on it. Stock suspension tune works great. Tcs 1 and ABS 1. Nothing else. Fully tuned will beat most LM cars ive came across If you don't mess up in the turns with to Mich throttle

Yea it's 20 flat at the front, and adjustable up to 65 at the rear.

I aeroforced a spare F1 I have after reading your post just to find out for myself lol. It's weird how PD decided to just give certain cars usable front downforce.

Almost any LM race car will beat the McLaren F1 on virtually any course. But both the McLaren F1 and McLaren F1 GTR Race Car are incredible machines. By the way I would not recommend using TCS at all. It slows the car down.

I turned my F1 into an LM per the suggestions in this topic. I raced it in the Gran Turismo All Stars (Nurburgring) race and oh my god it is so freakin difficult. I get within a couple feet of the lead race car (usually a Peugeot 905 or Bentley Speed 8) and then after 6 miles he's like 500000 light years ahead of me. Anyone manage to beat this race in an McLaren F1?

It shouldn't be too hard. I've beat it with a fully tuned Nissan GT-R SpecV '09 which is worse than the McLaren F1 (corners and straight).
