Seeing as this is a race car, and not a commercially available road car, shouldn't this be in the motorsports forum? Otherwise, what's the point in having a motorsports forum?

^^ I wasnt sure where to post it... Race cars get posted here often so I went for here under Auto News...
If a mod wants to move it for me, please feel free to do so :)

I don't know what the trend is for putting race cars in the auto news thread not the motorsport thread.

Anyway when I saw this earlier I was surprised it's actually slightly less dull looking than the road car.

^^^ Next time I will post race cars in the appropriate forum :D

Beautiful piece of machinery, the FIA GT3 spec cars seem to be getting more radical in design each year. It's just too bad that it will be a year or two until it's eligible for entry to the Australian GT Championship, I'd love to see how it goes in person.

 Looks like the lovechild of the Ascari KZ1R GT3 and the F430 GT3. Hopefully it'll be blessed with some great liveries like the old F1 GTR.👍

Wow this better actually go into racing it is amazing. I bet it sounds awesome also.

You missed this video too:

I should also imagine that it's definitely going into racing, they seem to have put quite a bit of effort into creating it. I would imagine to start seeing it appear in various GT3 events towards the end of the year.

Sounds like it'll be entered into the FIA GT3 class. Too bad it doesn't seem like they'll make one to return to GT1 class. But, it'll be cool to see on the track. Maybe it'll appear in the 2012 24 Hours of LeMans.

Well, the production car is already very very fast and very grippy, the GT3 variant with that massive wing on the back should be a corner killer. Awesome.

I personally think there will be eventually, but there was never a plan to race this car in the first place. I guess they'll see how well this car does, or wait for the new GTE (GT2 doesn't exist anymore) in 2012 or 2013 (can't remember when the new rules are being made for).

Will Mclaren make a GT2 version of this car?

Its more likely that McLaren will develop a new car for GTE. I think they are trying to get into selling race cars though, so they will probably focus on getting this GT3 car developed and building relationships with some teams much like how Group Lotus has done with the Evora (and how Prodrive does with the DBR9/V8 Vantage GT2).
In fact, I think both McLaren and Lotus are trying to follow Prodrive-Aston Martin's lead here. The difference is that Prodrive ran their own cars, whereas here we have both manufacturers simply developing and selling the cars while providing manufacturer support.

I love this new Mclaren, the racing car version is much more aggressive looking than the road car, i just love it. Hope it lives up to expectations!

What are you, the resident Motorsports Forum rule-nazi?

Not really, the MP4-12C is perfect for GTE in terms of size and engine displacement. Anything more than 4.5 litres and it starts to become a disadvantge (see C6.R GT2).

I've heard there's a 458 GT3 coming, and since the road-going versions are close rivals this could get interesting on the track...

Me too! It would be amazing to see it run the Bathurst 12 hour...

Nazi? Welcome to my ignore list. If you think its fine to call people nazis, I'd rather not read your posts.
And for the record, we now have two seperate threads in two different forums on the same topic. It makes it a little difficult to keep track of the discussion, I don't see how I'm being unreasonable asking for people to post threads in the relevant place.
Like I said, whats the point in having a motorsports forum when you aren't going to use it as intended?
