Okay, so it was my intention to create one big thread where all the car launches and the testing season get dicussed. It seems that the mods haven't agree with that, and made a spin-off for the F10 launch. So I'm following unspoken orders and have created this: the thread for the McLaren MP4-25 launch, which is due to take place at Vodafone GHQ in Newbury later today.

Quite frankly I think it's stupid to have a thread for each car, but such is life. We're only going to need one together when testing begins on monday anyway.

That was my original intention: I was going to group them all together with testing news, kind of like the way we dscuss the four new teams in one thread.

Here's the first image to come out:

I haven't come across anything else, so far.

We think it's stupid to have 1 huge thread discussing more than one subject or team.

As Jordan said in relation to creating new threads, "why not?"

Looks pretty mean. I don't like the shark fin, but I think it's one of the most aggressive designs I've seen in a long while.

Sa-weet. Looks like a couple teams are following Red Bull's designs from last year but they look good in my book.

Personally I rather like the shark-fin designs, just wish that the rear wings would get a bit wider again.

The more I look at it, the more I like it. McLaren have managed to produce something pretty elegant and very aggressive. It makes the Ferrari F10 look a couple of seasons old already. I'm not big on the front-on view, though; the rounded nose looks a little weak.

Thumbs up to Mclaren for being the only team ever in F1 history to make a shark fin look even remotely good on an F1 car. It looks great! 👍

I'm glad we are still seeing different design approaches and not straight clones, but even so I'm not sure I like the front profile of this McLaren. It looks better from the side than last years, but the front appears just as ugly, although this time the tiny sidepod entrances are the ugly bit.

Better than last year's, but thats it for me.
Seems we are seeing a pattern emerging for the 2010 designs - all higher front wings, all higher sidepods, and tightly packaged rear ends to them. Definitely glad to see the wheel covers gone.

I look forward more to the driver battle at this team than anything else 👍

I only wish they would have made a break from the silver with mercedes f1 now around. A mclaren orange:tup: would've been a nice departure. Overall, I like it. Waiting for the renault.....

That is easily the hottest new car from the side, but not so much front-on, the nose is too wide.

Mclaren really did a stunning job with the new MP4-25 (especially the trick looking end plates and sculpted/compact sidepods)  It makes the F10 look rather elementary and outdated  Like Ferrari, Mclaren had their diffuser blocked off for the unveiling, but from the looks of it, and what we've heard, it should be a pretty impressive interpretation (quadrupole deck diffuser anyone??? :dopey:)

That comparison image is most excellent - I love the agressiveness of this - I didn't use to like the Shark fins - but this one looks most excellent!!

Notice larger air ducts for brakes at the front...

And i'm glad someone isn't doing the wrongly attached wingmirrors!

The extension to the rear wing reminds me of an earlier, Marlboro-liveried McLaren. Couldn't tell you the year, but it just does...

Are you referring to the mid-wings of the 90s?

I'm almost 100% certain the Jordan 196 also sported a mid-wing for Monaco and a couple of other races too. Not sure if any other teams tried it.

But in anycase, Red Bull and Adrian Newey have been doing it for ages already this year and its a simple continuation of the "sharkfins" of 2008.

Its not surprising everyone is copying Newey again  Especially after Silverstone 2009.
One can only imagine what would have happened if he had actually joined Jaguar.....

McLaren said they were keeping the chrome, at least for 2010. I think it has to do with Mercedes leaving them and buying Brawn on short notice; it's a major change and not one that they had planned for. They want a bit of continuity.

And I doubt McLaren orange will be used so long as the team's main sponsor is Vodafone. McLaren orange and Vodafone red do not match.

Yeah, but at least McLaren has already shown some variation in the designs, unlike Ferrari who basically stitched a Red Bull nose onto the front of an F60.

I'm a huge F1 & McLaren fan, but I don't know why I haven't been in here...:confused::lol:

Anyway, great comparison pics... I think its also really interesting the different locations of the exhausts between all the current cars we've seen thus far... there's a comparison pic somewhere, I'll try to dig it up.

Testing time... and Gary's up!

The exhausts on the McLaren are really far back compared to most of the others...

I wonder if this is to do with the exhaust - or whether they've found something there...

Apparently the legality of McLaren's diffuser is being questioned. And I'm willing to bet it's Ferrari who are questioning it. I should add that Maranello have shown up with a triple diffuser ... figures.

^ not again... :indiff:

C. ~ Yeah that was what I was referring to...

From the Sauber thread... the pics prob aren't to scale, but you get the idea...
