I am confused, I read the article saying mechanical damage options will be available in the next patch. so there is no mechanical damage now? what is the point of the engine overhaul then? or is that just for old engines?

by turning mechanical damage on, how will we know when it is damaged and how do you fix it? seems like they should have a lot better system for fixing all damage than they currently do. I remember in the OLD Porsche unleased game you could fix different parts of your car that were damaged depending on how much cash you had or what you wanted to fix. So if you had $20K in damage you could choose just to fix some engine parts, or just body parts...
I doubt GT5 will be like that since I don't see that kind of interface currently in the game.

any help on this topic?

My B-driver killed my Minolta. 500 000 to fix the engine and 500 000 to fix ridgity. I can't drive it at all now...
To bad I did not complete the levels I got it for first...

Can you give us more info. What race was he in that he busted it and how? How do you know its busted, did you try to drive it? If so how did it drive compared to new?

Well, it could be used in many races, and I did not check untill funny sounds from the engine. I checked it and noticed the damage. Tried an event and it was no use. 1000 000 worth of damage, B-driver can still use it on some tracks, if you babysit him, but it's useless for the championships, overall it's dead...

its for old engines you basically answered your own question it even tells you about it when you mouse over it...

What do you mean by the part I bolded? How do you check it? Did you just try to use it in an event and the handling was all whacked out and it didn't make any power? Or???

I'm not really contributing but I'm annoyed haha.

You ask "How can you tell if there's damage"

And people reply "I checked and I noticed the damage"

That doesn't solve anything!!

I know I haven't been able to get a straight answer from anyone on this in multiple threads. I get the same "I checked and I noticed damage" kind of answers. Well its not like you can go to the garage and look at the chassis and see its bent, nor is there an in game mechanic that phones you up and says "hey your car is ****ed". And anyone who says there were tiny handling differences, I would say thats probably them being tired on their next race. Now a major handling issue, that I could believe.

So WTF?

Ok, so there was just a new update with mechanical damage. I know there is an option to make it light, medium, or heavy damage online, but I have not found that option for GT mode. I don't want to intentionally wreck a car to find out how it works, so does anyone here know where the options are for GT mode?

It appears as if there always was Mechanical damage in GT Mode, just not online mode. So when Kaz said there will be Mechanical damage in the next patch, he really just meant for online racing!
too much gets lost in translation here.

I don't see how. I have used my Minolta for tons of races crashed it tons of times and it is no diffent that when I got it.

When was there damage in GT mode? There never was. Currently, it's only online.

The bad news is it's barely there. You can still drive away after hitting a wall at 50 mph. Your car will just be slower.

well if you buy a used car and do an engine rebuild you see some good HP improvement, and people who have raced their cars over 1,000 miles even said they see improvements with rebuilds as well. So to me that means mechanical damage has always been there, you will see your HP going down over time when hitting things, now physical damage is a different story and it seems like that only happens at high levels when you can afford repairs...

speaking of physical damage, think about it, could you imagine if you smashed your car in level 0-10 without using any cheats for cash? take a $30K car and hit it in real life into some walls or cars like you do in the game, I guarantee you it would cost $10K to repair it, now when a gold only wins you $4K-$10K in those levels how would you ever keep up with repairs? unless you just drove your broken ass car without fixing it!

Now a simple fix for PD would be to make prizes give better cash rewards and in return people can fix their cars and you can put full damage in at level 0 as everyone expected it would be...

I think you are using the term mechanical damage to describe maintenance/wear and tare.

Paying for damage isn't necessary. I just want realistic damage.

CRASHING has NOTHING TO DO WITH chassis or engine maintenance!!!

I am not talking about an oil change! If you crash your car bad in a head on collision you will need to rebuild the engine! which cost half of the new car price... I wouldn't call rebuilding your engine "maintenance", I mean it is and it isn't but how else do you fix a broken car in GT5? those two methods are the only way to do so!

well I don't crash anyway, so I don't really care about that, although it would be nice to see lasting damage when you do.

and that thread doesn't really answer the question half of it is saying it does effect it and the other half says it doesn't... I doubt they would put it in the game if it had no effect at all, especially for that cost, its not like the 50 credit carwash!

Visually speaking of damage, is that fixed automatically? because i spun and at the end of the race saw a bent rear spoiler and scraped body panels but then went to gt auto and the car did not look damage at all.

I know your not talking about oil change! Crashing has nothing to do with engine overhauls or chassis repairs! Mileage is the only factor effecting them!

Just something about mechanical damage. GT 5 is not the first game to have it. I used to play a GP game called Monaco Grand Prix , it had an extremely steep learning curve and it didn't get good reviews because it was too pure of a racing game, no music and stuff like that. You had to be careful not to rear end or side swipe any body or you would have to get the front wing changed or worse you would be out if the the damage was bad enough. It was not an easy game and I think it was slightly ahead of it's time as a racing simulator.

Yeah there was an article that said full visual damage and heavy mechanical damage doesn't happen until level 40, and moderate visual and mechanical damage is supposed to happen at level 20. At least, thats what I got out of it. But, like you said, I think some stuff gets lost in translation.
