Out of pure curiosity (and boredom lol) I decided to do the Megaspeed Cup using all of the regular cars (fully tuned, no RM) and see which ones can win the tournament and which ones can't. I also found out the least powerful car to win it with - the Eclipse GT with 390PS fully tuned. Here are the results:
P.S: I use the NTSC-J version, there might be differences in car and AI performance between the other versions and this one.

That's neat, I haven't seen this before and I always wondered what kind of settings the AI was running. I also didn't know that the NSX, Supra RZ and the GTO used 7 gears. Are they equipped with super-close ratio transmissions or some unique part not obtainable through normal means?

indeed, they use the Super Close (or stage 2) gearbox. Pretty much every opponent except in the Normal Cup and the Sunday Cup uses super short gearboxes.
If you go to the second tab of the spreadsheet, you'll find my (incomplete) car and parts list for GT1. I meant to make it as the ultimate hybridding tool, as well as just a cool info sheet, but it took so much time, and was so tedious to make that i stopped after a while. But you'll be able to check gear ratios and such for example.

I like seeing GT1 content being kept alive, really interesting to see this for all cars.

Great list!
Some differences maybe to the PAL version, here are some complementary non-RM cars I won the Megaspeed with:
  • SUPRA MA70: YES
  • LANCER EVO III – YES
  • LANCER EVO IV - Mmmh... Possible with the EVO III... I should try on PAL :)
  • LEGACY TOURING SEDAN GT '93 – YES
Here's a playlist on Youtube:

I checked out your videos, you scored victories with the EVO III, FC RX7, R33 Type M etc, which wasn't possible on the NTSC-J version - but maybe if I try harder...

P.S: I did try harder - updates can be found in the original post.

I'm glad you managed some additional wins :)
In addition to the Legacy's take which was super hard for me, and I think impossible without
  • small opponents (I mean GTO only, no Supra RZ nor R33 GT-R and preferabily the MR-2 in the AI line up)
  • loads of luck (being bumped multiple times at the rear by AI's cars)
a Youtuber (Mr-Sam-Jax, quite a good driver I think) claims that a victory is possible with the Non-RM Camaro Z28.

He didn't post any video of this yet. But damn I tried & tried & tried, I never could win with the good ol' Chevrolet.
That's one thing I'd like to see once in my life, though :)

That was exactly the case when I did my run with the Legacy, the Supra and GT-R weren't there, only the NSX and GTO. Can't remember the rest of the grid, I think they were the Cosmo, 300ZX and Soarer or JZA70. I had to use shorter gear ratios for High speed ring, because the car bogged down at the start and the engine wasn't in its sweet spot (powerband) in the corners. For Test Course I had to lower the spring rates and damper settings to minimum, because it was losing speed in the corners otherwise.
As for the Camaro - I tried that again, I don't think it's possible, it just hasn't got enough power and it still weighs a lot even after stage III weight reduction, which affects handling and acceleration.

Update - managed to beat it with the '93 Legacy sedan, fully tuned apart from the stock flywheel. The opponents were NSX, GTO, JZA70, MR2 and Cosmo 20B. Finishing positions were 3, 1, 1, I managed to get a good tow/slipstream from the NSX, then the GTO touched the grass at the end of lap 1, so I caught up and got a good tow from it, too.

P.S: Scored a win with the Celica GT-Four as well.

Gave it a go with the Camaro, it's a **** car lol. I spent 2 hours and the best result i got is a tie for which i got silver, by doing 4-1-1, 21 points...

I did a few more runs with the Camaro and I have to say that it is theoretically possible to win with it, but many things have to fall into place for that to happen - for example, a grid consisting of NSX, 300ZX, MR2, GTO and Cosmo; the GTO making a mistake at Turn 6 at HSR, then giving you a healthy nudge at the back on the straight, etc. Chances are slim, but it could be done - with huge amounts of luck.

P.S: Scored a win with the Celica GT-Four as well.
:boggled::dopey: Wow, well done!
Think I've got to fire GT 1 in the next few days to try this up!

@SubManiac:
I like the Camaro in its Race Modified form a lot, but I agree it's not an easy car without that :)

Uuuuuuugggggghhhhhhhh

I tried it on JP, and I DID IT!
The grid order having the GTO start in 5th on all races really handicaps it, and allows the player to draft cars a lot more. HSR I is absolutely key, and i managed an incredible 2nd place thanks to the GTO having an especialy hard time dealing with the pack. I passed it on T5 on HSR I, which let me use it to give me a lot more speed to start lap 2.
Got unlucky with drafting and didn't get to win on Test Course (second place), and HSR II is a lot easier because of the messed up AI passing paths, forcing the AIs to fight each other and slowing them way down. Managed to pass the NSX that was out in first on lap 2 T4, just before the final stretch.
It was a struggle and i'm not driving this car ever again on the Megaspeed lmao.

I did the Celica GT-Four run again and took some screenshots. For HSR and HSR reverse I used the stock settings for everything, for Test Course I made the final drive ratio taller and softened the springs and dampers all the way.

Pulsar GTI-R done as well. It was surprisingly... easier than the Cosmo, despite the lack of power. With the right suspension setup to counter its natural oversteer, it handled quite well.

Inspired by you, submaniac93, I re-raced a few of the cars, here are the results:
COSMO 13B - the GTO made the aforementioned mistake by going off before Turn 6; then it overtook me at the end of the straight, but tackled with the Fairlady Z and I managed to blast past them both for 2nd place:

Eclipse GT - sadly, the screenshot with the results from the last race seems to be corrupted... I finished first, about 0.1 seconds ahead of the NSX; also, GTO made the Turn 6 mistake at the first race:

Seeing this, i'm wondering why you're not buying the brakes and stabilizer upgrades? Although not that useful in this particular champs, they do help a little on HSR... Impressive results regardless!
