Melbourne Motor Show '08

Monaro is what I was waiting for, I should stop listening to Americans who say it was cancelled.

They may still be right you know. I said in the Zeta news thread Bob Lutz said it was to be sold, but no real confirmation has come yet that it will see production. Plus it might not be called Monaro in production trim either.
That Bolwell Nagari is strangely growing on me. Different angles make it look better, plus the performance must be awesome. 0-100km/hr times are said to be around 4sec flat. That's not bad considering it doesn't make more than 250kw! (240kw is what that engine makes in the TRD Aurion)

If a production version is not called Monaro then they will have a civic war on thier hands :p

Don't you mean "civil" war? Who knows what this will be called if it reaches production. Apparently the whole range of VE Wagons were displayed at the show as well. A Peugot 308 Touring was also unveiled- not drool inspiring to say the least.

Edit: Is anyone going to the Melbourne Show really soon. Please check the Hyundai stand for me- CarAdvice say the Genesis Coupe is V8 powered. That's impossible by my book, I think they screwed up. But could you check it for me anyway please. If it is- this is the first time Hyundai have shown the Coupe will get a V8.

My only beef with it is it runs on flex fuel, that's bio-fuel right? Bad stuff. Anyway, I admit I was hoping for something wilder, instead we just got a 2-door Commodore again. Still is very cool though :D

You know all Flex Fuel means is that is can run on E85 no that it has to. The engine will be fine running premium grade petrol.

Will that hurt performance in any way being designed to be able to run on flex fuel?

Plus why is it they expect the 4cyl engine in the Genesis Coupe (Australian reveal at Melbourne) to be the popular one. So what if it has better weight distribution. A 6cyl can still handle damn well (as evidenced by GT-R) plus this will be one killer 6cyl. Over 300hp expected. If everyone buys the 4cyl, they don't know what they're missing out on.

No you actually get more power with less fuel mileage if you use E85 since the octane content is so much higher.

And 4 cylinder models are more popular because that's what the average person wants. They aren't looking for something with poor fuel mileage and a bunch of horsepower.

........I want a bunch of horespower. Fuel mileage won't be too bad, and the engine sound will be about a thousand times better than a 4cyl.

But obviously most people do not. Think about it most people who buy cars are just driving themselves back and forth to work, taking the kids to school, and running around town. They aren't racing their cars or really expecting to take them much over the post limit on the highway.

The offer the bigger engine for people that do want it, but they realise their bigger seller will be the more practical car.

A war on Civics would almost be funny- namely ricer Civics :D
Guys, I'm serious here, go to the Holden website, click on the Coupe 60 mini site, and watch the reveal pf the Coupe 60. Not only do you get to see it moving- you get to hear the beautiful exhaust note at the end of the clip. Wow- sounds tough as and oh so sexy

Edit: Joey D, the people you just described aren't about to buy a turbo Hyundai 4cyl Coupe either.

Edit 2: YES!!!!!! The W427 (almost overshadowed by the Coupe 60) has a manual transmission and unique LSD for added durability, they did this one right so far. It has a host of other goodies too.

You know this how? Plenty of people will buy a smaller engine. Also you have to take into account the handling characteristics, insurance costs, reliability, etc. It's not all about going fast and sheer horsepower, if it was small hot hatches would never sell.

I meant that people who want a cheap family car won't buy a turbo Coupe. This is almost strictlt a performance designed car. Durability will probably be worse on the 4cyl as turbos are harder on internals I'm told.

Look people bought 4 cylinder Mustangs in groves for whatever reason when there was a 5.0L V8 version available. Not everyone wants, or needs the biggest possible engine.

My point was your reasoning seemed wrong. They might buy it for cheaper costs and handling- but not because they want a family car.

PS- On the aforementioned Coupe 60 minisite accessed via the Holden website there are a couple of action videos of this car.

How do you know? People drive Mustangs as family cars.

Am I the only one who thinks the styling makes the rear wheel look a couple inches smaller than the front?:indiff:

Yes you are :sly: After seeing this car in action on the Holden mini-site I'm upgrading this car to "sex on wheels". I want one, badly

It doesn't look like it has giant racing wheels up front and tiny go-cart wheels in the back?

The rest of the car looks great though. I would check out the mini site if I didn't hate the Holden site with a passion.

Well tommorow Im off to see the show, have any other GTP'ers been there already and is there anything special someone would like us too see?

I asked on the last page if someone could go and check what engine is in the Hyundai Genesis Coupe at the show. I think CarAdvice screwed up and said it was a V8 but the V8 isn't meant to be in the Coupe. Please check for me.

I just got back. To be honest, this year wasn't the greatest and many great manufacturers were not present (Mercedes-Benz, Bentley et cetera).

Oh, and the 'GT5: Prologue competition' everyone was raving about was no competition. No time trial, just a 'log-on-to-this-site-and-win' type.

Ok I just got back. I think I saw you, were you by any chance the dude in the red tshirt who I owned in the Mitsubishi Xbox thing?

So what was prologue featuring? Same as the Japanese version?

The Prologue wasn't even there. I'm sorry to say. The PS3 stand just had an M3 under a blanket. Its probably on a different day or something.

Wasn't bad. Wasn't great. I was impressed with the new Honda Legend (That no one will buy) and the Fiat 500.

The highlight was my girlfriends comment "What's with that car and the stupid bit on the side" *pointing to R8*
