Good god, that car is UGLY. Even the CLS looks better. I knew that thing would look like butt to start with. This styling really kills the legacy of what used to be an awesome looking ride.

...Wow, what's up with all the CLS hatred? It isn't that bad...

Well it's not bad until you see M-B's falso advertisements.....

"the world's first 4-door coupe" (like claiming "the world's first roadstervan, a cross of roadster and a minivan")
"blacking out the B-pillar would make it look like a coupe from a distance"

CLS wasn't a good idea, it was horribly executed in my opinion. Everything about the car is just plain awful - taillights, headlights, body line....etc etc.

I think the CLS is great and suprisingly I am seeing alot of them on the roads.

Of course it all depends on what you appreciate in a car, but frankly when I saw a CLS (which was only twice ever) it was driven by some businessmen who didn't really seem to care whether if the car looked like a coupe or not.

Thats odd, just curious how would he look he if did seem to care?

Yeah, yeah - you'd think he'd be more concerned about headroom than some cool looking car.

Whatever, I take my word back - but I still don't like the car at all.

He sure wasn't an enthusiast, he was a businessman - so I concluded that he probably isn't an enthusiast.

The front is fugly.

The Merc badge is wayyy too big. The lights don't have the usual Merc look to them. The 'lip' just looks badly designed, not fitting with the car at all.

The side isn't too bad except the rear third reminds me of a Rover 75, something you don't want on a Mercedes.

The back isn't too bad though.

Overstyled, disproportionate, Merc. The whole car seems too busy.

CL63: Sexy looks, Big Block V-8, automatic....

Sounds like a Mopar B-body set up for the drags. ^^

Well, Mercedes has released more offical photos and information about the car. Leftlanenews.com has a page dedicated to the car, so you can find plenty of new images of the exterior and interior there, as well as information about the new mechanical bits and pieces.

To sum it all up, Mercedes is only gong to sell the CL as the CL500 and CL600 when it first goes on sale later this year. Power has been boosted on all models, enough to where the CL500 is able to cut a second from it's 0-60 times. Unfortunately however, Mercedes thought it would be funny to use the DIRECT SELECT gearshift similar to what is used in the S-Class and BMW 7-series...

Damn. If that steering wheel bottom was all black with more of that chrome silver on the spokes, it would be an A+.

I do love the interior, though.

It looks good, but i'd rather have some carbon fiber and a different wheel instead.
Looks like the whole Amazon forest is in there.

On second thought, where are the cupholders? I wonder if they have a sweet IV hookup built into the seats.

That interior looks terrible IMO.

It looks like they dipped their hands in paint and wherever they touched there should be wood.

By comparison, I like the interior. The bottom two steering wheel spokes should be leather, but only limo drivers and I use the bottom spokes for steering. I used to think wood trim was for old people, but it's grown on me, as long as it's the real deal.

Alike the M3, the CL65 has been caught in prototype testing...

...Ha ha, like "Werkswagen" is fooling anyone!

don't you think this is a bit too excessive?
mercedes_cl600_5.jpg

No, it's not excessive, it's just repulsive. The last time I thought masses of wood trim looked good, Han shot first.

And no matter what era you place it in, the half-plasticized-wood, half matte black steering wheel is horrific. Even Daewoo knows better.

I guess the actual structure of the interior is okay, but it's more like a crime scene where the victim literally exploded in fear. I'd like to see it in a more sane scheme. The exterior is acceptable, but thankfully it's out of my price range. I wouldn't want to be mistaken for driving a mini-Maybach.

Anyone else notice it's parked in a handicap spot?

They probably backed the car into a wall at 120+ MPH?

I dunno. You know, black 200 MPH tape makes EVERYTHING go faster...
