Man, I *hate* those "Legend of Silver Arrow" races. Mercs feel like you're driving through a sea of caramel. They have the acceleration of a quadraplegic elephant who has swallowed a thousand gold bars. I can't wait to get shot of them. It wasn't so bad in the Beginner, but now approaching Amateur completion and having driven many fine vehicles now, the Mercs just don't add up.

Silver Arrow? Lead Weight, more like. Pah!

I used the 55, i think it was, for the beginner one. I won the Touring Car and used that for the amatuer race. It wasnt as bad as you say it is.

Actually it is that bad after running over 400 miles around Trial Mountain in a near bone stock SLK, I've had quite enough of the Merc's for a bit.

The power drop off is far too high, and ANY loss of traction had an immediate and disatrous effect on the spped, and momentum.

I ran the Beginner and Amateur in an SLK. It can be done.

BUt, in defense of the Mercedes...Its a LUXURY car. not a sports car.

Suck it up, finish the race, and never go back to it.

Yeah, what he said. The CLK touring car has some ass to it, but the others feel like you're in one of those nightmares where no matter how fast you run, you move like molasses and the big monster keeps gaining on you...

I bought the SLK and modded it, thinking it would be the cheapest way to go. It wasn't, though I did beat both series with it. I should have bought a CLK, done less work on it, and then wound up having it, the prize SLK, and the touring car. Instead I spent way too much money, and wound up with an extra stock SLK which I sold at the reduced price.

Yeah, true, though it is a luxury car more than a sports car, i found the CLK 55 better than the CL600 because its heavier, and definitely sluggish, yet in the end i found both sluggish. Though i would not say this applies in the 230 SLK Kompressor. Still, it could use more grunt.

You know if they fitted those mercs with brabus engines, V12 7.2 engines in them, then i believe they would go quite a bit faster, it would also be nice to have have a SLK 600 brabus with a 6 LITRE ENGINE and 450hp V12, nice or what?

Mercedes = slow.
AMG = NOT SLOW.

perhas if the AMG SLK had been released a year earlier, we'd have something other than a touring car to look up to in the luxury department. alas, we must get through on the SL600, which isn't all that bad after tweaking, but still remains a luxury car.

i find the LSD has a really profound affect on MBs.
if you want to go faster, try that.

I have a red CLK55 with 510hp, I find everything about it totally sweet, except for the brakes, which really mess with the cars stability. I used it to win Silver Arrow Beginner and Amateur. The SLK is a peice of garbage, and as Car and Driver stated "it is not a sports car". The CLK Touring Car is one of the first REALLY good handling cars you will get. I later bought the CL600 and did some minor mods. I think it is very deceiving how it seems slow but you are actually going quite fast. My CL600 only has 468hp. PS I have every car in the game except for 6

Aren't all 230SLK's, CLK55's, and CL600's carrying AMG badging straight out of the factory? I don't know why that came to mind, but I swear that all three models are specifically badged "AMG".

You cant get the Touring car from the beginner races...I used the 55 for both of the series...It had some serious weight reduction but it still drives like a brick...

No, the only AMG in GT3 is the CLK55. The SLK Class' AMG model is the SLK32 AMG with a 3.2L 350hp Supercharged V6. There is no AMG version of the CL Class.

Just checked at the mbusa.com site and that confirms that the models I listed above are not AMG modified, with the exception of the CLK55.

As for the SLK230 Kompressor, I just ran it in a few of the Pro Spider & Roadster races (fully modified) and it did great. Makes me want to see what I can do with the bigger models...

You must be good because I souped up my SLK to around 350hp and I couldnt do the pro roadster with it. I found the Porsche Boxster to totally kick ass on that series though! PS The Cobra is a peice of crap hey?

I have this problem with the Cobra, I always want to keep it stock. I just feel bad throwing in a six-speed gearbox and other mods into a classic car like that. Not the smartest affliction, but one I've got nonetheless. I would be willing to bet with proper mods it could run great (no horsepower mods needed, of course).

With the SLK230 Kompressor running at 417hp, using T4's, I was able to go through and only pit once in the Grand Valley race. I had tried it with T5's, but I kept burning up the driver's side front tire and that killed my handling through the 5th lap. I was drifting occasionally, eating up the tires, so a better driver may be able to get through it with one pit stop on T5's or even straight through on T2's.

12 sec. civic: Not great, but getting to be better than average. You'll get there soon enough.

I managed to win the Amateur Silver Arrow races in an SLK 230.

Full racing suspension, Sport Brakes, Racing Muffler, port polish, Chip, Full racing Tranny, Medium Slicks, Lightweight 1&2.

In retrospect, the first time I did this race, was with a Heavily modified CL600. It was a barely enough win.

In two months time, come back to this race, and try it with a lowere powered car, and I'm certain you'll think, "Wow, that wasn't tough at all"
