Anyone else a bit hyped for this? MGS2 Sons of Liberty, MGS3 Snake Eater and MGS Peace Walker have been given a HD touch and is heading to PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year. Overall these games have been improved with slight changes and will support 3D and add trophies and achievements among other things. Hopefully another reason not to keep your PS2 within close reach. For obvious reasons they haven't included MGS1 but that's only a few clicks away on PSN so it's nice to see all the main titles in the series becoming available for the PS3 at least. My only concern is that this collection won't be based on the MGS2 Substance and MGS3 Subsistence versions. I refer to some of the bonus content such as the very first Metal Gear games from the eighties featured in MGS3 Subsistence and the VR missions featured in MGS2 Substance. What do you think?

There is already a thread on this here.

To answer your post, it would be nice if the original MSX games were included. It's possible they will be included or available as dlc. Can't wait to play MGS3 again. Already downloaded MGS1 on psn. Will also be nice to play Peace Walker as I haven't played it. I'm mostly looking forward to the ZOE HD collection though.

Sorry about that. I'm not sure that thread appeared when I searched for Metal Gear Solid HD Collection before creating thread this so please forgive. Thanks for your answering my question though. I'm not familiar with ZOE at all but maybe that HD collection will be a good chance to check it out. :)

I highly recommend you do. Most people who bought the first one only did so because it came with an MGS2 demo over a year before MGS2 was actually released. The first one was good, but nothing really special. The second one was amazing and is right up there with MGS1 and MGS3 as Hideo Kojima's best. Some of the set pieces were epic. If you feel like giving it a try, I highly recommend it.

Oh yeah. MGS3 is my all-time favorite game so I will most definitely be buying the collection. I don't have my ps2 anymore and I don't have a bc ps3 so my original copy of mgs3 is collecting dust

<--- Thoroughly excited. Especially since my PS2 broke a couple of months ago. PW on the big screen will be nice, as it was a phenomenal game.

How does it stack up to the rest?

Personally, I felt it was just as good as the main Metal Gear Solid games on the home consoles. The only thing that held it back in my opinion, was the lack of another analogue stick, which will obviously change when it gets ported to PS3/360.

Sounds good then. I remember being in the position of having a psp and wanting peace walker. I also wanted to sell my psp and the need to put food on the table sealed the deal... Been lucky this time as it will come in a much better value package for a little extra cost. Was annoyed at missing out on peace walker the first time.

Peacer Walker is quite enjoyable when it comes to gameplay. The story was just not a rewarding experience after MGS3 and Portable Ops but it has some great moments though. Just my opinion but I also had big expectations for it. I also missed cinematic cutscenes.

I haven't played peacwalker yet but I am really looking forward to playing an update version of MGS3.

Sorry for the huge gravedig but I figured there'd be a thread for this somewhere... Is anyone playing Peace Walker who might like to team up for some Co-ops? I hadn't touched MGS HD since February until last night when I finished off MGS3 and got stuck into PW, it's amazing. I've only done one Co-op where we had to kill a seriously tough tank, it was really close to the wire because the three of us kept dying and only one of us had ANY ammo at the end, I was reduced to charging around with a riot shield and stun prod to keep enemies off the last remaining guy with a missile launcher. In the end he killed the tank with his very last missile. We got a C.

Anyway, yeah, if anyone wants to add me then please do, my PSN is neema_t.

I finished MGS HD Collection a long time ago, but I can tell you that you can beat those co ops missions alone. There are a few videos on youtube telling you how to get rank S on most of them, I used those videos but in general these missions are pretty much the same very scripted.
But if you really need help, ask here -> Peace walker co op partners thread

Oh, it's not that I need help, it's just more fun with people. But thanks, I'll check that thread out.

@Neema Sounds fun, I guess I could join. Add DARREN200COOK. @Spegetti Its definitely a lot better, the camera is more user friendly now which makes focusing on a boss tons easier.

I always planned to get the collection but haven't yet, if I do anytime soon (if i get the job I'm after) I'll try to remember to message you.

I want this so bad... but didnt get the oportunity yet.
Dude I have some bad news for you. There is a possibility that you won't find this collection available anywhere, they didn't made many copies of the game. Fnac said that they were waiting for the shipment, since February it never arrived and I got one of the copies that were available in Worten.

I haven't seen anything to suggest limited numbers either. I picked up a copy for the xbox 360 the other day on sale at my local EB games. Brilliant series, playing through it all again at the moment. Oh the nostalgia.

Out of interest, how far are you guys in? I've done all the main ops and a lot of the extra ops, the ones I have to do now (that I really don't want to do) are: 74, 78, 82, 84, 86, 93, 97, 99, 108, 112, 114, 116 and 118. I think if I do 118 I'll unlock a few new ones that aren't vehicle fights, but Peace Walker is probably the most frustrating boss since... Well, any of the previous Metal Gears on Extreme. Just now I had 'her' down to 4 bars and died because I was clipped by an S-mine which meant I couldn't dodge the incoming drill missile, then when I got up the other missile exploded near me and then she did a charge attack which clipped through a building and killed me. Needless to say I'm pissed off now, so I think I need some help with that one. The other AI bosses can wait until I HAVE to do them, but the other vehicle ones aren't too bad really as long as you try and stealth your way around it.

I've just added you guys (Darren and Ellis) so hopefully we can get some co-op on the go soon, I'll probably be on it every night until I either put my DS3 through my TV or finish the game. The worst part about this is there's a ton of videos showing you how to do it if you have the best gear, but you can't get that gear until long after you first finish the bosses so it's bloody hard at the moment. I think with more than one person it'll be alright but if you guys aren't as far through as I am I'd be more than happy to either wait or co-op with you until we're all on the same page.

I should've gone to bed ages ago myself but I found a good op to grind for R&D and intel staff... I worked out that if I do it roughly 20 more times I'll have those two teams full of at least level B staff, but it's the mess hall and medical teams I really need to level up. But I've got a high enough R&D team to develop the level 4 CG and RPG-7 launchers and hopefully I'll be able to get the team high enough with just level B staff to develop the Stinger and level 4 LAW, which should all help against Idiot Walker.

What is it with Japanese developers/gamers and grinding?

they loves to grind. I have only really just started peacewalker to be honest. I have done the others first. :)

I noticed last night that EVERYTHING is a grind, let's see... You've got:
Weapon usage levels,
Individual combat unit soldier stats,
Mother Base team levels,
ZEKE parts,
ZEKE AI,
Vehicle captures for Outer Ops use,
R&D development time (sometimes you just end up playing an easy Ex Op over and over to unlock something you need),
Camaraderie, with a trophy for 20,000 and an insignia for hitting 1,000,000 which is a LOT, after one co-op game with two players I have... 150 points,
Heroism (I'm on 25,000 after 30 hours, I know I need to hit 118,000 to be able to get the EZ Gun (PR)),
Insignias, some of which require things like an all-female Mother Base staff (yes, really) and max usage level of all weapons in the game,
Callsigns (again, after 30 hours I have one 1-star callsign... Butterfly)...

That might be all, but as I said before I'm really enjoying the game (except for the vehicle sub bosses and AI bosses). I'd love to know if anyone has ever, even on the PSP version, maxed out the usage level for every weapon in the game. I bet that's pretty time consuming, even after two years, but the sense of achievement must be pretty high. Then, after finally finishing all of that, you turn the game off and never touch it again. Hmm.

Still, it's surprising that Peace Walker, a PSP game, is probably the most complex and deep of all the Metal Gear Solid games so far. It's great, I don't even care that the graphics are terrible and not exactly what I'd call 'HD'. There's a few hilarious parts in cutscenes where the camera focuses on a background bitmap image that's maybe like 20x20 pixels or something, it looks terrible...
