Yeah I know this has probobly been mentioned before but hey.

Obviously when online with friends its good to talk, but in the open lounges I'm starting to get bored listening to the rubbish some people talk about while racing:grumpy:

Fair play in some repect, I couldn't hold some of the in-depth conversations about set-up's or the last curry they had while trying to judge my breaking point to pass that Evo in front on the last corner of the last lap.

But then you get barking dogs and nagging GF's (I get enough of that when not playing GT5)?!!

Is there a way I can turn it all off? On a serious note some of the swearing with my 3 year old watching/helping? isn't good. Help!

Mute the people who you don't wanna listen to, simples 💡

Do it by clicking on their name (the screen where you can see their setups) You'll have the option to mute

yep. step one entering a room (ok step two after checking the settings) is to mute the gabbers, people speaking different languages, dogs barking, gfs bitchn, and people burping.

It's all about respect and being aware of your own mic. I try and ensure mine is off when I'm not talking, sometimes forget though which is why some friends got an earful of me nomming chips recently, & that helps a lot. If people are more "mic aware" then the rubbish would halve I reckon.

People don't care. Nice that you do.

It's not rocket science though! It's like the "bubble effect" in cars; get a person in a car & the more they're in it the more they think of themselves & the less they think of others, mics are the same & people need to start respecting that & having some bloody manners as well.

In short the mic is an awesome tool if used properly but a nightmare in the wrong hands!

if only, push to talk.

My welcome message is "You're already muted"

OMAE WA MO MUTERU!

Unfortunately, not everyone's mic even has the capability to be muted. I have two - one can, one can't. Well it technically can, but only if you go out to the XMB and do it from there. I usually keep mine muted when I'm not talking too.

Push to talk option would be nice. Might even make the races seem that much more authentic too, with a click and then somebody yelling something barely intelligible over a cranked-up stereo blasting engine noise for a few seconds. Would probably suck for those with the output going through their speakers instead of their mics however.

I have a personal funny story about mics. When I first started using mine I didn't realize that it was normal for me to not hear my own mic. I was in an online lounge and could hear everybody elses mic but not my own. Exited out to the XMB and tested my mic to find it was working. Went back into the lounge and was frustrated that I still couldn't hear my mic. Kept blowing in the mic to see if it was working. After about 3 minutes of this somebody piped up "WILL WHOEVER IS BLOWING IN THE MIC MUTE THAT DAMN THING". That's how I discovered everybody else could hear what I was saying, but not me.

As to the topic at hand I find they add to the enjoyment of the game overall, but I too have been in rooms where one or two people forget they are racing and go on and on about some unrelated topic. Now that I know that I can mute individual users I may use that in future.

(Just in case anybody I've raced with lately is reading this it's not anybody that is on my friends list or in any of the clubs I race in. Only had blabbermouths in open lounges.)

I wish you could the option to disable them when in the race, but pre-race they are on.

or

Not have my game volume be turned down while someone's talking to themself that they f'ed up, or their steering wheel is making enough noise to engage their mic.

I can never even really hear what they're saying through my tv speakers, and I'm okay with this. Because who cares what anyone with a mic is saying ever. Ever.

That's harsh! What if it's important? like your on a hot lap on a narrow track & I'm blocking half the road after a blind corner, I could tell you which side I'm on and not ruin your lap. That's happened a few times.

It's not the mic that's the problem, it's the calibre of person using it... Mics don't kill rooms, people do!!

Wasn't being entirely serious but point taken :)

Depends on my mood. Usually I'll mute them unless I know who it is.

Actually, you can mute any mic in an online room by clicking on your own name and selecting "mute mic" or whatever it's called. I use this sometimes when I want to mute my bluetooth mic, but still want their voices coming through my earpiece and not my TV speakers. If I hit the mute button directly on the mic, it puts the voices back through my TV speakers, as most know.

As for the topic, if racing with PSN Friends, I use my mic if it is charged. This makes things easier to set-up races, agree on settings, etc., instead of typing like a madman in chat. Plus, you get to know a bit more about your friends and racing buddies. ;)

When in a public room, I'll use my mic if others have theirs on. When I enter a public room, I just listen for a few, watching the little "sound symbol" popping up next to names, so I can see who is going to get muted. :D

I immediately mute the following:

1. Punks
2. Racists
3. Ignoramuses
4. People who constantly talk over other people
5. People who constantly yammer with people in their house over the mic or eat, drink, smoke, yell at the dog, etc.

In most cases, if you are in a good, clean room of mature racers, having a mic is important for helping to create a good online racing environment for everybody. Given the limitations of racing online, it's nice to be able to say things like, "On your left", or "I'm staying on the high/low line" etc., to help people with theirs and your awareness during a race. 👍

I use a PS3 bluetooth mic and I can mute it on the mic and it doesn't put the sound back thru the tv speakers it still comes thru the ear piece on the mic.

After reading this, I opened the instruction manual for my Plantronics P90 and found that I was tapping the "call" button, not pressing and holding the Volume Control to mute just the mic. Doh. :boggled:

Thank for the info!

I don't like the mic. Always when going online i have to remind myself to turn the volume off, just because people on low quality sound horrible. Luckily i've didn't meet anyone online waking up my pet dolphin.

All depends on who's talking, and what they're saying. I normally listen to what's being said before I start talking/muting people/turn my headset off.

I've gotten a couple of PSN friends just by joining rooms where people are yakkin away. On the other hand, the person with the ridiculously loud stereo, poorly rapping who gets pissed and starts swearing when people start telling him to shut up, no, that's a mute. Same with the really loud guys yelling about stupid crap, like how fast their veyron is and stuff(amazingly, I still manage to run into these people despite how long the game has been out).
