Micro$oft has learned from Sony...

I use the PS2 in the Vertical position and I still play PS1 games, Last game i got was Thunder Force V off of ebay last year and got Front Mission 3 last year too. That would be like making Direct X 10 100% incompatible with 9.0 games and less..
 
I'm sure both sides learned somethings from eachother. I'm an Playstation fan and I'd actually be upset, if Sony didn't learn anything from the Xbox.

I think (full)backward compatibility is very important, and that's one thing M.$. :D screwed up, IMO.

I will admit,Sony did learn a few things from MS,but look at all of the similarities that the Xbox 360 and the PS2 have in common now.

There are a trillion other ideas that MS could have come up with to make a new console,but it sure as hell looks to me as if they wanted to base the 360 off of the PS2.

I can see why MS bases off of Sony though....why create a new idea you don't know will be succesful if you can just copy an old,succesful one?MS is afraid they will have another console get overrun by Sony.Hell,sony somewhat kept their PS2 design in the PS3,but what did MS do?They took the PS2 design and raped it too.

I am a big fan of both consoles,not a fan boy of either.I love my Xbox and my PS2.But it just makes me sad to see a multi-billion dollar company like Microsoft take ideas from other companies.

You need to read around a bit, then... MS has been doing that for thirty years. Hell, that's all they do.. it's all they've ever done. They haven't come up with an original product in... hell, I dunno. Couple decades, at least. Most of their contributions to the computer industry have been in their business model, not their products.

What's so orignal and new about the PS3? Oh wait, it's faster...that's new. The simple fact is, that if the Xbox 360 was sony's new machine, alot of people here would gush over it, and vice versa.

So buy machines for games, toss this "OMG OMG SONY CAREZ" crap out of the window. They don't. They want your money just as bad as MS want your money.

Well, not to do anything, but consumers have good reason to fear microsoft, it's proven they aren't exactly the most consumer friendly company. They like to corner the market so much as to make you purchase their product, which is considerably more expensive than anything else.

Anybody remember windowblinds? It was a skinning program for Windows XP, microsoft bought it out, and offered it up with XP Plus. Wordperfect? All but obsolete now, it's all bout Office XP.

Not to rain on the parade code, but MS is after money and then some. Total market domination is not a good drive for competitive market share, nor for competition in general.

It's not that people hate Microsoft, it's more or less the fact that once they get a share of the market, they drive prices sky high, because alternatives just aren't there. And that's what a lot of people (mainly older people) fear from them.

Why is that funny? I'm always concerend as a consumer about increasing prices for things that are insanely priced. Look at windows. Why should I pay 100 bucks for software they spent little time investing in? When has windows offered anything revolutionary short of Windows 95? Never. Yet every two years they get people to buy into licenses for PC's, and buy new and upgrade versions, running from 100 to 250. Why? Because they can, what else are we going to buy? Linux? And run what WINDOWS based program? That's their stronghold...so who is to say they won't do it with Consoles if ever given the chance? No one.

I am big and tough, my amazon on diablo 2 is level 63.

The xbox360 is as similar to a ps2 as a ps3 is to an xbox, they are both games machines, have joy pads, play games blah blah blah.

Oh and tha_con, I see what you mean now about MS being whores, they are. All I was getting as was that when buying a machine, I can't say it's ever really bothered me. With a games machine it is VERY different.

Being a gaming enthusiast, backwards compatibility is important. Now, I really don't think there is a reason to make the PS3 work with PS1 games as there is a decade between the releases of the consoles. But it's very nice not to have 12 different systems hooked up just so you can play your old favorites.

Backwards compatability is very important because usually people sell their old consoles or they break and keep the games.......when they get the new console they will wana play all those expensive old games you have bought......I know I would wana still be able to play GT4 and all the GTA's without the PS2.....

i really really want to get the Revolution and wait to see how the 360 fares before i invest. and i WILL be buying a Ps3 if it can play ps1 games (something the ps2 cant really do as it likes to mess them up at times) and ps2 games as then i can trash or donate my ps2 for the space.


as for the dimwit who implied that no-one used their Ps2 vertical (somewhere on page 1), everyone i know has used theirs vertical, stand or not, since it came out of the box

I use mine horizontal, but my brother has his vertical. It's just about space. The vertical stand saves a lot of space, depending on the room.

So yeah, that was a rather ignorant statement made on page 1.
