So... let me get this straight. You STILL can't play on the XBone until you connect to the internet?
I have no idea. Microsoft is terrible out making topics clear. I'm guessing it is optional but I doubt it.

How would the cloud work without atleast connecting to the Internet one time?

You have to connect to the internet once. This can be done many ways, once of which is connecting it to the internet via ethernet/wifi or tethering it to your phone. Plus it comes with a free Gold trial. After that you can play Online indefinitely.
The car has crashed & has a bent frame but was repaired.
If you didn't get that metaphor it means MS left a sour taste in everyone's mouth & this isn't going to make it up to some.

Aw don't fuss the details. So not everyone.
Basically, you must have an internet connection with your XBOne eventually. Those without internet are STILL out of luck.
we as consumers that don't want/need it are in the majority.
Now will this undo all the damage Microsoft did with their reputation the past few weeks?
I think so. The only thing now holding back the system is the price. And maybe the paranoia around the Kinect.
The one time check in is likely apply to every new game disc that has just been installed - in order to register the account + console.

It means you have to borrow an internet connection from someone once. Once. The store you buy the console from probably has internet. I'm sure they'd let you use it. Internet cafes. Free wifi. Cellphones. Schools, libraries, your work.

MS needs to be more clear with this, take for example on PS3/Xbox360, you can install offline game disc without needing to go online and authenticate.
I seriously doubt that's the case. Given the "one-time system setup" thing.
Leave it to certain people to make a big deal out of a one-time activation.
Although I imagine Best Buy will have a whole new service to offer.
What's less clear than "After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One"?
NINJA-EDIT: Tree'd by the Berry Crunch man.
kennylmaoand Kinect is mandatory and always-on.
No. It isn't.
F1 fanAs of now, it has to be plugged in to the console. Granted, Microsoft could change that while still including the Kinect with every xbone. That would be the best of both worlds. Everyone still has it so the devs could make use of it and those who are so inclined could still use it. Those who don't want to use it could leave it in the box.
Point being, it's a camera in the living room/bedroom that could be hacked or collect data.
Edit: the old "cover it up/face it against the wall" argument is a bit premature. For all we know, the console may bring up an "error. Configure Kinect before proceeding" message. It hasn't been confirmed but it also hasn't been denied so it should still be treated as a possibility at this time.
You could say Microsoft is listening to the consumers. Or they're just doing damage control to ensure their console isn't a complete failure, after hearing the public's response
I'm guessing it's the latter because, if they really were to put the consumer first, why would they even have all these restrictions in the first place.
Why did Don Mattrick say "for those without an internet connection you could get an XBOX 360." Well that's consumer friendly.
You think they really care? Of course they do! Care about their profits.
And with all that, it has been confirmed by MS that it can be turned off. Therefore, it is not "always on" unless you want it to be. The fact that it has to be connected to the console is not what I was arguing.
Kinect is not always on.
F1 fanSo why force users to connect it to the console anyway? If it can be turned off, why not allow users to unplug it and continue gaming? The fact that it still has to be plugged in makes me wonder why. I don't trust it at all.
Is not the same, a cellphone (or any other device thus far) make it's functions due to user input, problem the Kinect is that is always on and therefore it requires a constant input of data to recognize the user input and authenticate it.Simple answer: I don't know, and neither does anyone who doesn't work for MS.
However, would you consider the microphone & camera on your cellphone or your webcam to be 'always on'? And if so, why were you comfortable buying them...?
