Developers that often visit various Flight sim forums have been asked that question and sadly they have denied it. Although they probably wouldn't be allowed to say anything anyway, but I do know much of the ACES team (MSFS devs) are working on something else while FSX is going through beta.

oOo...Hopefully we'll see something good cooked up here by the MSFS dev team...something with 6 wing-mounted .50 cals :mischievous:

Considering you have already downloaded the game, if you like it and intend to continue to play it then please buy it. It's well worth it.

If you download just to try-out first then you will be happy to know that a FSX demo is going to be available, rumour has it from a developer hint that it will be available later this month. I will post a link here as soon as it's released. :)

Haha, maybe. I hope its better than MS combat sim 3 though, I liked MS combat sim 1 and 2 better.

:nervous: i am new with the entire flight simulator stuff, but i have FS2004 and i am not usre if i am doing something wrong, but the game is just so boring for me... when i got it i was all excited about it, but now that i've played it , it's just like....bla:dopey: do i really have to be in to flying to play this or what can i do to make it more exciting?

thanx:tup:

ps. i really want to like this game.

well Flight simulator is about flying civilian planes. So be it a 747 inbound from Tokyo (you can do the whole 13hours flight) or a simple acrobatic flight... its all about 'flying'.

You'll learn everything about plane systems, flying 'laws' as well as the proper takeoff and landing pre-checks as well as approach using instruments and ILS navigation...

If none of those things rock your boat, there only thing that's left is to fly around in 'external' view and try to catch that perfect sunrise/set through the clounds and take FRAPs videos or screenshots...

On the other hand, there are a few cool addons and mods out there that can make you fly other aircraft. I personnally really like http://www.lagosim.com/ , an italian company that specialize in sceneries and military planes and helicopters. I purchased the F16 Falcon mod which is pretty damn good.

Its still flying, mind you, but you get to fly a military aircraft instead of a boeing (you can't shoot anything)... If you can find other enthusiasts with the same mod, you can fly online and practice formation flying as well as Dogfighting (although you can't hit and destroy)... Its fun as a part-time game when you feel like escaping the normal world.

Not sure if this helps at all, but i do understand what you are going through, i have a hard time flying cargo as well.

RedOak explained well, +rep 👍

In FS9 I get most my fun from flying the big jet airliners IFR while using all procedures (ILS Navigation), its not something to take lightly. If you want to try something like this their is flying lessons that will help you.

You will be happy to know that Microsoft wants to get a larger user base and more young flyer's into FS series so in FSX they have added a whole bunch of new things that will appeal to the more casual flyer, while taking nothing away but still adding a lot more for the people that take flying more serious.

Now to some great news

Microsoft Flight Simulator X Demo is going to be available in 1 day 7 hours from the time I posted this :D

http://www.gamespot.com/promos/2006/flightsimulatorx-demo/index.html?tag=flightsimx_csbox_home

Don't worry about subscription to gamespot it will be available publically aswell at many other hosts.

"The demo will feature the location of St. Maarten in the Caribbean and include 2 airports and 3 missions of progressing difficulty."

One of the airports included in the demo is the airport that there is pictures and movies getting around where the plane looks like its going to land on a beach, and when they take off the beach goers get blown away. :)

Ok the Demo is out, best place to get it is from Microsofts own high speed servers, its 636mb's

Enjoy

(I am downloading now :))

Info on the demo

Microsoft
Flight Simulator X Trial Version

The Flight Simulator X trial version includes two airports, three missions, and three different aircraft. All of the missions take place at St. Maarten in the Caribbean.

Missions:

Getting Started (Novice)
Plane: de Havilland Beaver DHC2
Details: Geared towards first time flyers, this step-by-step tutorial mission shows you how to get off the ground and up in the air so you can explore the ocean and island of St. Maarten. Of special note is the fact that the Beaver is a float plane so you won't have any runways to worry about. You'll be taking off and landing in the ocean.

Flour Power
Plane: AirCreation Trike Ultralight
Details: This mission has you behind the controls of an ultralight, a very easy to fly glider. The object of the mission is to drop sacks of flour attached to your ultralight onto various objects and targets scattered throughout the area surrounding St. Maarten. You'll be scored on both speed and accuracy. Try not to drop any flour on spectators or dolphins, as you'll be assessed a time penalty.

Caribbean Landing
Plane: Bombardier CRJ700
Details: The most challenging of the three included in the trial version, this mission will essentially be a take-off and landing of a Bombardier CRJ700 in a technically challenging airport. You'll need to manage air traffic chatter and surrounding AI planes efficiently to succeed.

I am aware there is also a free fly mode around St. Maarten in the Caribbean aswell.

With it being pinned as having amazing graphics and using DX10 when it comes out, will the demo be really CPU and GPU hungry? Will I need an awesome system to play it?

  • Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista
  • Processor: 1.0 Ghz
  • RAM: Windows XP SP2 - 256MB, Windows Vista – 512MB
  • Hard Drive: 14GB
  • Video Card: 32MB DirectX 9 compatible
  • Other: DX9 hardware compatibility and audio board with speakers and/or headphones
  • Online/Multiplayer Requirements: 56.6 kbps or better for online play
Nothing Superduper

Keep in mind that's minimum, minimum graphics settings. I'd think if you wanted anything like full you'd need a hell of a system. Not to mention a DX10 card, which arn't even out yet...

I played it for about 10minutes (friend came around got side tracked), I flew the Bombardier CRJ700 and I must just say..... Wow

Without getting technical they added so much more features to the Jets.

I had the graphic setting mid/high range and I got a steady frame rate and it looked nice, but I didn't do a whole lot of flying over detaled land and through clouds yet.

My specs

P4 3.4ghz HT
1gig DDR2
X800XT PE (PCI-E)

Im going to have another play now, so far so good.

Here is a responce from a Developer of the game about performance of the demo

tdragger (MSFS dev)
Releasing early also meant the demo lacks some of the final performance optimizations that people will see in the final product

Haven't downloaded yet, but some are complaining the graphics on the demo aren't that great.

Then again, they did that with GTR2, even thought they're both demos.

I'm installing it right now. I'll give my thoughts and maybe some screenies soon.

EDIT: It all looks pretty slick. My graphics card is a piece of ****, but I set the desired frame-rate slider to 40 and it still looked pretty slick, so an average computer would run it. But for fun I maxed out all the graphics setting, and wow. I was only running at a couple of frames per second but it looked amazing.

Full size.

(1400x900 was the max resolution I could set)

It's alright. I played with the keyboard because my joystick is somewhere I can't remember. But a joystick always makes things fun and lot a more easier.

i dont have a joystick right now... how fun is this game without a joystick?
It's kinda hard. The smaller planes seem to be harder due to an easier turning radius.

Landings a pain because you have to lightly tap the buttons to keep the wings level.

In FSX if you right click and choose "Mouse as yoke" at the bottom (while in the plane) you can use the mouse to control pitch and roll, much easier than using the keys. :)

Just finished downloading the demo, I'm gonna give it a try in a minute. I've never actually played any of the flight simulator games before so it will be an interesting experience for me :D

So far...

I recommend a graphic card that support 9.0c directX & higher(DX10).

That game seem to use a lot of shader & shadow mapping(Shader Model 3 required). I bet that DX10 will offer more effect on the overall game that will make the game look a lot much better.

So anyone playing this now that it's been out for alittle while?

I have been playing it quite alot, anyone play around with the missions? They are quite fun.

Sorry to revive the thread, but I do have FSX, I was wondering if anyone wants to fly! I'm KillerMRK by the way.

No problems, feel free to revive it.

I havent been playing FSX lately, no quality payware aircraft available yet (IMO, I fly 99% big iron), so I have been flying FS2004 while waiting. I am also waiting for the FSX service pack 1 (SP1 patch) that is nearly complete from Microsoft which fixes many bugs and improves performance.

^I'll have to check if the version of the game I installed came with this SP already. I had never played this before, got it from my brother-in-law last week and I'm really enjoying it.

I'm using the same CD key he is, will I be able to play it online? Also, do you think the Accelerator expansion is worth it? He wants me to buy it 50/50 with him.

Sounds pretty good the accelerator pack, some good sounding missions and nice craft in it. If my PC could handle MFSX I would have to go buy it myself.
