I agree. If you want to use old software then what’s the problem with using an older OS? Especially in the case of businesses which are using an old piece of software because everyone is proficient with it – I assume they are also proficient with the OS it was built for? Why bother with the upgrade?

As far as games go, why do you have a problem with tweaks needing to be made for them to work? Seriously, you clearly know how to work around such issues so why complain?

(NB: All that is ignoring that Microsoft said that everything that works on XP will work on Vista, I can’t defend their stupidity)

I think one of MS's biggest mistakes is completely changing the layout of its latest Microsoft Office applications.

Even a very computer-literate person like me cannot figure out where something simple is without having to use the help function or spending 10 frustrating minutes trying to find it. God knows what it's like for average joe to use. I expect people to use previous versions for many, many years yet.

I agree, Since M$ has gone with this new layout for all its applications (first seen on IE7) it has totally confused what people have been used to for the last 20 odd years!

I mean WHY change it if it wasn't broken! I want to look top right and see File, Edit, View etc etc.... not some crazy bubble... At least Firefox has not giving in to this stupidity. IE7 lost a lot of IE users (like me) because they layout was just so insane!.

Now MS want to remove text altogether, remove the need for a mouse... they are smoking something I swear!

I doubt I will be moving on from XP anytime soon.

Looks like File, Edit, View on the top right to me....Totally Insane.
 
And to get the 'File, Edit' is all of literally 2 mouse clicks away.

It takes a lot more time to download and learn an entirely new browser than to click twice. Hell, even closing IE and opening Firefox would take longer than getting that bar up :lol:

ahh.... but you can't put the file, edit bar above the back and forward arrows now can you! :sly:

Oh no I have to move the mouse BELOW the back and forward buttons. Useless IE7, I'll just use IE6 and look at incorrectly displayed PNGs.

I think that Office 2007's new UI is great, everything is logically placed and even my luddite of a dad can work it out.
 
It should probably have been:

"People understand the downsides of IE7, take them into consideration, have an alternative available and still use it?"

I've personally worked in two companies that have used IE5 and IE6 respectively because the bosses have been dumb enough to never have heard of such things as Firefox or Opera. It's hard to use something that isn't available, no matter how much better it might be.
 
Admittedly my University now does exclusively use Firefox. However, I used to use FireFox for years until IE7 rolled along, and now I much prefer IE7 to Firefox. When Firefox 3 comes along I may change again, I don't know.

But then again, IE8 is already out in Beta so a change may not last too long if it does occur :lol:

hahaha when I typed in IE8 on google is says "did you mean firefox 3"....subtile advertising! :sly
 
a lot of people over 50 don't know what a COMPUTER is. America is a land of Anachronisims, sometimes.

my mother's work website, used for checking hours in, benifits, etc. was designed around IE...and IE ONLY. it will not work with ANY other browser. IE is the most vulnerable to all kinds of Malware, and I have to go through at least once a week and run both a virus scanner and two spyware scanners to keep the computer clean.

other OS's can complain all the want, but they lost the software wars to-- useing a star wars metaphor-- the empire (Micro$oft), and the rebel allience (Apple)

Then use Firefox with IE Tab for those random sites that don't support FF. Problem solved.

I do wonder how many "Windows 7 Approved" devices I'll need this time around when the switchover comes. About half of my stuff didn't want to work with Vista right away...
 
TB thanx...but it doesn't work below FireFox 3.0. looks like I have to DL firefox all over again

edit: just had to copy our other drive's copy of firefox onto the main drive, and file hippo it
 
Go to this page and grab the top one. It might be considered "old" but it's the most recent one for FF 2.0.
