Ok here's the deal:

Track - Midfield
Cars - Any production car (no race or tuner cars) under 55K.
Mods - Power/weight ratio must be no lower than 3.2, full susp,
Brakes, Twin clutch, semi fly, T5 tires,
TCS - 1 or 0 wichever you prefer
ASM - 0

Fastest lap by Sunday Midnight wins.

What about transmission options?

no transmission upgrades, only the upgrades i have selected. Just to clarify you can do any power upgrades you want as long as your power to weight ratio at 3.2 or above. I've been trying the Z06 and the R33 GTR.

If you guys want to keep it at T times only thats fine too.

well so far i have 3 cars running:

Z06 - 1:17**
R33 GTR - 1:18**
RX-7 FD - 1:18**

I may put down a few laps today.

Well, I've run this in a variety of cars.
My best run was in the Corvette Grand Sport with 445 HP on a 467 HP max for the car's weight.
It ran 1'15.4xx.
I also ran the Skyline R33 at 1'16.0xx
Supra RZ at 1'15.5xx
Mustang SVT at 1'16.5xx
and a Lowly Toyota MR-S at 1'18.3xx.

If Famine sees this he can probably run this 2 full seconds faster than me.:D (with a lesser car).

I almost started adding parts willy-nilly till it dawned on me to take the car's weight and divide by 3.2 to get max allowable HP.
You are on the right track with the Corvette.
I think you'll find the cars that have the torque to back up the HP to have the best chance at running this quickly.
The MR-S would have been faster, but my top speed was less than 142mph.
If I get a wild hair later, I may run the 22B and one of the EVO's (but all of the Evo's are geared so short that the time will probably be adversely affected by lack of top end speed).

yeah i tried an EVO VII and it kinda suked, didn't try the sti though. did you try any FF cars for fun?

No,

I can't think of any that would be competitive with the Vettes.
Now, there could be a FF only segment.
I see the Honda ITR kicking butt.

Don't count out the RSX type S, i was very surprised by the speed of that car.

well i tried a supra as well and got 1:16.9 to my Z06's 1:16.8, pretty close and i have barely tuned the suspension on the supra where as i have spent an hour or two on the vette. i guess we'll see who is faster.

I'll be very suprised if any of the FF cars break 1'19.000.
The RSX is quite fast. But a handful trying to get into the 1'18's.
The ITR won't get under 1'20 with me driving.

Later in the week, I'll pull out the stops on an MR-2 and see what it's capable of .

Well, I took a quick crack at this for a few laps in a Mustang SVT turning 508hp that weighed in a 1628kg. This granted me a 3.204 p/w ratio. Didn't touch the settings, and turned a 1'15.498 on my second lap.

Later on, I'll drop a bit of horsepower, as it's a new car and will gain abit. I can forsee this car dropping (in my hands) very close to a 1'15.000 run.

Took a quick shot in a lightweight Corvette GS. It tipped the scales at 1271kg and turned 391hp. This equates out to a 3.250 p/w ratio. My time after 4 laps was a 1'14.788. I suspect that I could tweak the suspension, and trim up my lines to get nearer to a 1'14.2xx after a bit.

I've saved the replay of both, and these are my sector times.
PHP:
Sector Vette GS Mustang

 1 4.255 4.175
 2 7.871 7.992
 3 10.106 10.021
 4 5.243 5.188
 5 6.156 6.080
 6 10.325 10.659
 7 4.357 4.355
 8 3.137 3.184
 9 5.561 5.783
10 9.949 10.298
11 7.809 7.751

As you can see, the Vette rules in the corners. I may have to try putting the Stang on a diet and see if there is a difference in times

Just a quick update. I ran the Mustang through a quick regimented diet and this garnered better results. I've often wondered in the P/W ratio races, what's better, lightweight or more power?

With the Mustang going on it's pound shedding excursion, I easily chipped a 1'14.978 trip around Midfield. I figure now, I can move this down to a 1'14.6xx if I can piece it all together, and get a it more practice. Current P/W ratio is 3.201.

With the Corvette Z06 sporting a 3.363 p/w ratio, I managed a 1'15.7xx run. I don't think it's a contender.

At this time, I think the Corvette GS is the best choice.

AO

i also tried the lightweight and less power with the supra and it did much better than expected considering the supra is an ass heavy beast.

i think the lightweight is better cause i was just thinking about a suspension working a car around a turn, im sure it is going to be more responsive and easier to work if there is less weight to move around regardless of the car's hp which is probably only has helpful in the straights.

Well, I'll note my best lap, to date, was done this morning. I'll not get a chance to get back to this until tomorrow evening, so it'll have to stand for now.

The only info I'll give out is that I turned a T1 at 22.667 and a T2 at 45.059.

My p/w ratio stands at 3.225

AO

What's really scary is I am in the beginner division on the weekly race. There are guys out there that can likely trim another 1.5 seconds off my time.

AO

No new magic car. the secret is eliminating tire squeal. I'm running the Corvette GS and listening for the tires. Any squeal means you're loosing time.

Take the corners as fast as possible, without letting the tires squeal. The only place that I do let them make noise is coming into the hairpin. I get eh back end out, and am back on the gas before I even enter the corner. Other than that, I try to keep the tires right on teh edge of their grip.

If you've got a sharkport/xport I can load the replay up tomorrow night.

AO

OMG, I'm within a second of you in the GS!
All I can say is, Thanks for the Replays!👍:D

Whenever you're ready, ship it back this way (I can PM you with a new address) and I'll load a few more on there. In particular the recent instant races, a nice one of the MR around Rome and this spot race (in the Mustang and the GS).

Freeway Drifter, I'm not sure where you're from, but I'd be happy to do the same.

Excellent!!

Then I can send "Bill" back to you and Bob's card back to him in one fell swoop.👍

Ahhh... I sent Gil a memory card a while back with 20+ replay's on it for him to chase. Various fast laps that I've run.

Yo alta... I had a copy of your 787b @ midfield. An excellent lap for sure. I was impressed and of all the replays I watched, that was one of the best.
Forget the time...
But it was fast.

I didn't look at the race and thread, but I will and maybe I will give this race a try, who knows?
Later.
