Hi, I did a search for "midtown madness" and no threads about it came up.

While most Midtown Madness fans have probably moved on to MM3 (which I'm surprised THAT doesn't have a thread), I greatly prefer the second Midtown Madness. Yes, it has horrendous graphics, yes, it has only 2 cities (and I usually only use one), but I think it's the best MM. Why? Well, you can get some pretty cool cars after winning some races, like a Panoz racer and a hook-and-ladder fire truck which can drift and is nearly indestructable, but when you go online to MM2 sites, you can download THOUSANDS more cars for the game. Sure, they don't work on multiplayer unless all of the players have them, but they're great fun in single player. My personal favorite is a Komatsu 930E mining truck which pulverizes everything on the road.
But another great part about the game is that there's so much stuff you can do with it. You can race, blitz, or checkpoint around cities, or you can cruise (free run) and do anything from follow the traffic laws to jump onto buildings. And there's plenty of cities and city mods online as well.

So now is when I pose my question: how many of you play, or at least have played, Midtown Madness 2? Post now!

:-)

I do believe I still have a CD somewhere..

Back in the days, I played MM2 for hours and hours. And yes - It was indeed great fun. I was also a big fan of Panoz which sounded abso-bloody-lutely awesome..

Good times indeed !...

w00tness:
I only wish my graphics cards didn't hate the game so much.
I do believe the game hated most Gfx cards. Remember when I got my GF2 - with the first 7 driver versions, nothing but tearing and graphic weirdness going on...

I used to rock that game all the time. My first true online gaming experience. Good times had with that game, plus 100+ additional cars and mods I had.

I absolutely loved the original one, I loved the fact that your car is nowhere near as hard to destroy as the second one, which meant checkpoint races were as much about surviving as racing quickly and picking the best root, for me it made the game so fun, I also love finding shortcuts, its one of the greatest PC games in my opinion. Love it 👍.

I still have this gem laying around on my HD with a few converted cars sitting in it.

That Komatsu was awesome. Hilarious to get in a police chase with max traffic, the laugh as you drive ontop of three lanes of traffic and the cops just kill themelves in it.

That's amazing for a Ford Pinto, Toronado!

It's great to see that some people still like the game. The graphics card issues are really annoying, though. So far there's only one I know of that works well. (sorry but I don't know what it's called)

:-)

The only reason I'm not playing it is the gfx problems. Didn't a couple of people make hi-res AI packs that add more than oversized boxes for download, or were they never released?

Never heard of such packages, but I'd reinstall the game in a second and give them a try. Just for old times sake...

I remember seeing it when that game was hot. There were two seperate packages which replaced our famous bricks with vehicles worthy of running into. I think they were about 2500 polies a piece. I know there was a '67 GT350 that was 5500polies, which was considered holy crap back then.
