Welcome to The Mini Cup!
(notice and warm-up)

The actual Mini Cup racing will start Sunday, February 5th (one week from today).

Hopefully we can have some fun Mini Style.

The Idea:

  • Five Individual Races
  • A Long Term Points Scheme

Full Custom Transmission

Total Build Cost: Cr. 144,290

The five individual races will be posted as the time comes for the races to start.
Each race will have its own race/results thread to be opened as the race comes along.

The points system
1 point for last place, +1 point per place, first place recieves 1 point for every participant (second earns -1 of first, third get -2, etc etc).
10 entries = First place 10 points, second 9, ... down to last at 1 point.
This system will keep things close and account for differences in turn-out from race to race.

The Warm-up: (my intention)
Gymkhana Cone Circle and Low Speed Slolam.

Discuss top speeds obtained in the circle and on the slalom.

Speak freely, there is no leader board or "race" about this... Just a discussion of settings and techniques to get things started!
This should help all of us become more familiar with the mini cup car and how settings changes will play a role in this series.

A More Formal Warm-up:
GT Mode:
Motorland: Practice (Hotlap)
Using "The Mini Cup Car"

Feel free to discuss any and all times for this warm-up race (as it is only a warm-up, right? :sly: ).

Have fun everyone!
Hope to hear back from many of you as I am sure the interest in a Mini Cup must be great.

Sounds pretty good 👍

I remember when Cyril was in charge of it, back in the days.
And I also remember enjoying the races I took part into.

I will be sure to give this a go, one more way to practice with the wheel :D 👍

The Wizard.

I can't promise I won't fight again for "dead last" but I'll definitely run some of the races.

Great, 👍

Just to get things started...
I took my mini over to the gymkhana to see what kind of speed I could hold on the outside line of the cone circle.

With stock settings I could hit a top speed of about 38 or 39mph, but only hold about 37mph.
After some work on the settings I am able to hold 38/39mph and when I push it just right I can hit 40/41mph.

Not an amazing change but definately something to get me started on tuning this mini. 👍

Also, that was achieved by only adjusting the Camber.
After adjusting all of the other settings I may be able to get a higher speed. :trouble: :dopey:

Finally,
Thanks for showing up everyone.
I'm looking forward to having some fun.

Damn you Kent! :D
I've bought everything for the car 2 days ago and set it up for racing only.
I'll see if I can bring it down to 210hp, then, I only have to buy R2 tires! 👍
I'm in!

I'm pretty sure you can do it. 👍
If you check the "Mini Cup Car" specs, you should notice that all of the permanant modifications have been performed (except the rigidity increase, which I will leave as an option).

All you will have to do is equip your full modified car with a Stage 1 NA tune and you should be right on the money at 210hp (of course you will need the R2 tires as well).

Hope you enjoy the racing.

Btw, I've completed a few laps on Motorland...
44.454 Final Lap Time

Can anyone beat it? ;)

had a couple of laps in the car..... starting to get used to the understeer of an FF car (havnt driven many in GT4) 44.210... not bad

Yeah, I'll.
I can't take a few laps around Motorland currently or maybe untill this weekend due to I have test in religion tommorow, and some other school crap till friday. I'll see if I can run a few laps tommorow :D

I think i will enter this it sounds like fun.

I did a couple of laps around motorland and managed a 44.612 with the minis stock settings and no driving aids

count me in 👍
I've always wondered about this car since it came out. It just looked liked fun:) Nice choice on the warm up at Homeland by the way 👍 Gave it a big track feel for a little car.

As per usual, I'm around a second behind :indiff: 45.7 :yuck:
Pushy little bugger. As mentioned in other post, been awhile since an FF.
I like the concept of not only the races, but the sharing.

As this is only my third ? week around here, I'm still learning how a car reacts to different aspects of adjustments. It forces me to think as a driver, and a mechanic.

As always, though I may be chasing my ghost to improve my time, the real ghost is Div. 1 times

Thanks for doing this Kent 👍
from a newbie :)

Welcome to the fun everyone!
I'm happy to do this so please, if you really want to thank me, just take part in the racing. ;) :D

Also, I see some nice times being tossed around, "ls2" running me into the dirt (I tried to beat my current time more than once and just didn't manage it).

Regarding the settings for this... My suggestion is to go to Gymkhana with a stock suspension. 👍

Get into the cone circle and practice doing the circle on the outside edge as fast as possible without going out of the circle.
Then, after you've done that on stock settings and found "the limit," go back into settings and adjust only the camber (.5 in one direction or the other).
Then go back to the cone circle and try again... This time you should see a difference (good, bad, or otherwise).
Following that attempt, go back to settings, adjust the camber back to stock, and then again .5 in the opposite direction of what you just finished.
Then go back to the circle. 👍

Doing that is a great way to get an idea of what settings work well with FF cars (because I can honestly tell you that not all settings have the same results as on FR or MR cars).

Keep at it and do it with other settings if you want.
However, I suggest doing one setting at a time and because of the nature of the circle starting with "camber" adjustments may be a good way to go. 👍

Good luck, I'll be looking forward to starting up the real races on sunday.
I'm sure you will all enjoy the courses I have picked out for the racing. :dopey: :trouble:

I'll run a few laps now before I go back studying.
I'll update this post.

Edit : After struggling with the settings I have had a hard time with the understeering :dunce:
My best time so far : 44.337 - I could easilty save 0.1 seconds tought :)
This is great fun 👍
I hope more people will jon.

I gave this a quick go, last night, before my 2 hours 30 minute session on AI field testings in WRS 43.

I managed a 0'44.852 after 5 or 6 laps, with everything stock, except for gearing (Auto set to 1) and all the driving aids set to Off.

I was ahead of my ghost in a lot of the following laps, but I had no luck finishing the laps.

There is room for improvement, I just didn't play the combo enough. Maybe tonight I'll have another session and see if I can get below 44.5.

The Wizard.

I had a play around with my settings and managed to run a 44.034 at motorland and hoping for a 43.xxx soon.

I gave it another go.....
My best so far is - 44.145 (and yet, there is room for more improvements!), I realized that I have forgot to change the camber angle :dunce:

Good luck everyone 👍

Some great times there. 👍
Hope everyone keeps up that fast racing for when the Cup starts. :sly:

I'd like to know how you all feel about racing against AI, would you have problems with that?

Also, do the number of laps in a race matter to you all?
I'm not going to do many laps if or when we do multi-lap races but I want to be sure that you all are interested... If not then we will just do a bunch of hotlaps (which I am down with). :trouble:

Let me know how you all feel about these sorts of things.
Also, keep at the warm-up race and be prepared to start racing this sunday.

Until later today when I have the chance to do a little more racing in the warm-up...

I don't have anything against racing with the AI, but I don't wan't them to hit my bumper during racing :dunce:

I'd like to do some hotlaps instead or you just set x laps on a track (without AI) :)

Please leave the AI out of the picture.

Unless the multilappers are going to be on tracks with a long enough straight section that allows for easy passing before the first turn. Then, I don't care if we do 10 laps :D

The Wizard.

Needed a break from WRS :ouch:
Got a decent one in the bank, but can't seem to beat or duplicate :grumpy:

Time to take the mini out for a spin :)

As for the AI and the multi-laps, I don't mind either really. I'm so new around here I don't have a history to object to :) LOL

Just thought the series would be fun. Don't give a diddly about where and when we race, as we are all in the same car 👍 I've no idea how some of you guys get around so fast 👍 But it gives me something to shoot at other than beating this thing at level 10 in arcade 👍

now,,,, time to sit in that mini :)
