The Cup
A series of 6 races, in the New Mini Cooper-S (GT4).
Each race will be run as a hotlap on a specific track and will feature tire restrictions.
Each race will last a whole week.
Drivers will be granted points depending on their fastest clean lap (replays welcome).
The overall winner will be the racer with the most points at the end of race #6.

Race #3
Enough arcade races, it’s time to take your real Coopers out of the garage and show your tuning skills. See in the post below how you can easily buy a fully modified Cooper.
In addition to the restrictions on parts listed below, there is an extra restriction on tires :
You are provided with 3 sets of tires only : 1 racing hard tires set, 2 racing qualifying tires sets. For each simulation race you'll have to choose which set you will be using, and you cannot re-use an already used set.
In the end of the series, you'll have raced twice with qualifying tires and once with hard tires.
Since it might help you making your tire choice, I'll reveal the 3 tracks we will be using : Citta di Aria, Infineon Stock Car Course, Opera Paris (tracks are listed alphabetically and are not supposed to be run in this order).

Car : Simulation Mini Cooper-S
- you need a Mini Cooper-S in your garage to race
Parts restrictions :
- no nitro
- max 200hp (check the power on the settings page, and check your display unit.)
- tires : racing hard or qualifiying tires.
- you cannot mix types (e.g. no hard on the front and qualifying on the rear)

Track : Opera Paris
Gran Turismo mode, City courses, Opera Paris, Free run.

Deadline : Tuesday, 19th April, 08:00am (GMT) - 00:00am (West Coast) - 03:00am (East Coast)

Ghosts : 50.275 (qualifying tires) / 52.648 (hard tires)
The ghost is the best clean lap of my first 5 laps session. It sets a reference time, so that you know how far (ahead) you are from the pace.

Rules

Driving rules : standard OLR rules
- 2 wheels on track at all times
- any tarmac area or rumble strip is considered part of the track
- no contact with walls
- no hybrids or cheating of any kind

Submission :
- practice as much as you want before deadline
- PM me (flat-out) your best clean lap (final time only) and your tire choice for this week (hard of qualifying)
- save and keep your hotlap replay
- you can submit only once per race

Thread rules :
- do not discuss final lap time
- do not discuss final sector time
- T times discussion is encouraged

You're only 10 minutes away to your first fully modded Mini Cooper-S
Step 1) take the fastest car in your garage ;
Step 2) run the Amalfi Rally (Easy) in Special Conditions series forward and reverse (clear it first if you already golded it) ;
Step 3) the prize car for winning both is a Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car '02
Step 4) you can sell the prize car for over 265,000 Cr, plus you've had twice 5,000 Cr rewards for winning the races.
Step 5) run to the Mini dealer with your credit card and buy a Mini Cooper-S, see the price list below :

Car : 26,990
Racing exhaust : 4,600
Racing brakes : 4,600
Brake controller : 10,300
Stage 1 tuning : 4,700
Stage 3 tuning : 70,000
Port polish : 5,250
Engine balancing : 11,000
Racing chip : 1,250
NOS : banned
Fully custom. transmission : 10,200
Triple clutch : 4,600
Racing flywheel : 1,000
Variable LSD : 6,300
Fully custom. suspension : 16,000
Racing qualifying tires : 47,250
Weight reduction 1 : 1,100
Weight reduction 2 : 5,300

Plus you don't need all these parts since the limit not to exceed is 200hp.

Okay, I'm sorry, but could someone explain the tires rule to me in slight different terms? I'm utterly confused (not with buying the mini, I have one of those in my garage already, but the usage of tires ...)

Yeah I know.
The more I try to explain the more confuse it gets.
I'll try to do my best here :

We'll run 3 races in the same Mini.
You have to run once with racing hard tires and twice with racing qualifying tires, but you can choose which tire type you will use on which track.

That is, you can choose this week for Opera Paris to run on hard tires, and then for races #4 and #5 you will be running on qualifying tires.
If you choose to run this week on qualifying tires, then you'll have one set of qualifying tires and one set of hard tires remaining for races #4 and #5.

Ok, I'll stop or I'll get complicated again. :guilty:
If it's clear for someone, just pop in and explain it better than I do ;)

No, no ... that makes sense, thanks!

Pheeew ! I'm lucky.

BTW, since we have some newbies in the Cup, I'll give the following piece of information which might not be obvious :
"hard tires are made to last longer / qualifying tires are made to go faster."
Thus, in our case (we run a hotlap), you'll be much slower on hard tires than on qualifying ones (as the ghost times reflect).

And if your name is "Kolyana", you go equally slow with any type of tire :p

No, that will work even for you, tires can't be sexist. ;)
You only need to PM me your tire choice with your final lap time, so first you can keep it secret to other racers, second you can run as much as you want on both tires sets and only choose in the end of the week which lap you will submit.
Then you'll see at least a 2 seconds gaps between your best laps.
BTW, nice result in the WRS 1, you did better in your division than me in mine :nervous:

It wasn't an awesome result, but I just couldn't find the line and improve on it. Just glad I didn't come rock bottom last or something ... I'm sure I'll improve with a little time and some studying of the faster guys.

I'm glad I didn't push myself into the Div2 .. I would have been well out of my depth!

So, if I understand this correctly: Race #3 is Opera. And the other 2 courses are races #4 and #5.

And we decide which tires we would like to run when we submit final times. Hopefully You'll see a bit more of me this race. I'm not sure if that's a good thing for you guys, though. :dunce:

Put some laps in and came up with T times of:

T2 @ 51.626

Much time to come off still. and alot of suspension work to be done. Still not perfect. :grumpy:

Hey Flat_Out,

Would you be interested in hosting a BMW cup next? I would love to race all types of BMWs from different times and catagories in a championship, like what you have put together here. This is a great series you've put together here. Was just wondering if you plan on keeping it alive, or doing something else.

Good luck , All. C ya.

I can't keep something running and do the WRS leaderboard and still have time to play. So when race #6 is over, I won't organize anything for a while.
But I'm not against a BMW Cup or something else in June for instance.

Hi,
I quickly try the race (7laps) .
That's my T2 : 49.856 with qualif' tires.
See you !

I thought Luxy was doing the leaderboard for WRS. Looks like I missed something. Well...great job, Man. Busy, busy.

I didn't get a chance to run in the WRS last week, but I hope to this week. Some of those guys are insanely fast.

EDIT: I just looked at YOUR leaderboard...and WOW! Thats freakin awsome!!! Real good job.

I have been trying to tune

Suspensión for up, for down, more hard, more soft :banghead:
More brakes

Finally, I have keep default settings :dunce:

51.8 with hard tyres

Default settings are fine.
Perhaps the springs have to be soften : the harder they are, the more the car bounces on the rumble strips (and usually ends up in the rail).
I'm trying to find gearbox settings to get fast in 2nd gear through the left hairpin before T2.

I'm not far off this time with hard tires myself, which gives me some hope :p

Ran some more laps tonight and came up with T2 @ 50.899

Looks like most people are running Hard compound tires in this race. Whoever doesn't, will have some trouble on one of the other two courses.

In relation with the rule:

- max 200hp (check the power on the settings page, and check your display unit.)

In settings page, in upper right corner appears the power in PS despite user unit selection. Is this the value of reference or is the real power in HP units?

Do you understand my point?

Clarification About Power/Torque Figures and Units

I've been using the settings page reference to tune for Hp and have my unit settings on Hp. I have heard that none of the fugures are in the correct unit. I say, as long as we are all the same, it doesn't really matter. I'm at 199 (Hp or whatever) right now. (on the settings page) The easiest place to change it is on the settings page.

Sony really screwed up on this.

I couldn't find a way to get 200 deadon, so I'm racing with 199, too. Near 50 is a good time, I doubt I'll get that fast :p

I couldn't reach 200 either, 199 is the closest I have.
Though the unit does matter : 199hp means 203 cv on my game, and it does change when I change the display unit in the options.
Ok, let's say that we cannot exceed 200 in whatever unit (except kW) and that shall give the same result in the end, only less trouble checking it.

I ran in the hard tires yesterday, I'll try the qualifying tonight.

I played with the gearbox settings yesterday, and ran a 50.441 in the Q tires.
I still don't know in which tires I'll submit.
Now that I tuned the car (suspension and gearbox), I'll compare both sets.

Board is updated.

Submitted my time for hard tires. Not an awesome time by any stretch, but - aside from any weakness I may have driving - I really wasn't too sure about the whole setup thing. Looking forward to seeing how you guys set things up.

Cyril, you would have to dismiss your ghost driver, He puts too much pressure to you

Or else I'll have to save my ghost lap as a spare submission time :D

Time submitted

49.937 with hard tyres

Board is updated, race #4 is posted, and you who didn't submit yet still have 10 hours to do so if you hope to score some points this week.

Final board is posted (see post #1), with few submissions this week, due to a challenging WRS event. (I couldn't event beat my own ghost and I used qualif tires).
I'm off to Italy on hard tires this week.
