I don't know if this is correct but I notice a difference is how I get a penalty depending on which pedal I'm pressing and how I'm steering , so for instance , when I get bumped from behind at the start if I'm properly hard on the brake when I enevitably bump the car in front I either don't get a penalty or it's just 1 sec , if I'm side by side with a car through a corner but I keep the steering lock on even thought we rub you don't seem to get a penalty , I wonder if people aren't trying, let's say, there best to avoid hitting things. Don't get me wrong sometimes it's gets a bit manic, goes wrong and I get slappped fairly or unfairly with a big penalty but most often than not I can seem to avoid them . Let's hope I haven't spoken to soon. :)

Honestly before I made DR-A just yesterday I felt pretty similar to you. The few races I had after being “promoted” painted a different picture. Somebody rear ended the crap out of me and I got 4 seconds for it. I lightly tapped a guy from behind who was losing control and spinning, got 10 seconds. Somebody passed me mid-corner and on the exit we rubbed ever so slightly, that was 2s I think. I still need more time to feel things out, but so far it seems like any contact at all gets a penalty at DR-A, or it could have just been my crap luck.

The penalty system works really well when you race others with similar SR, but as soon as you make contact with a player a rank or more lower than you it quickly proves too touchy. The penalty system does seem to take into account the result of the contact though. I have noticed that i dont get as strong of a penalty for contact that results in losing a place or if i slow down immediately after (which means 5sec not 10sec if i contact a lower rank player and 1 sec not 3sec if i contact a player my rank or higher)
This tends to backfire though when a B rank player makes a risky move to overtake and fails but makes slight contact in the process. I usually see a 4 sec penalty while they get a 1 sec or nothing at all.

Basically, the system works as long as you are matched with other players of your rank, it is broken otherwise

High SR races is pretty much irrelevant unless its a high DR (A or higher) race too as lower DR races you get bumped both by lesser skilled players as you do dirty. I drive in races between SR S and SR B and as I am only DR B there is virtually no difference in people not making contact although the dirty players just make it more obvious.

NICE !!!!!! Same car both times. #1= There is no reason you should get a penalty in either situation, PD really needs to get their heads out of their 🤬 on these penalty situations. #2= When someone is that bad at knowing their braking points and you get hammered in 2 corners in a row they should be disqualified from the race. They already completely destroyed your race, why should they get to go on. If this guy was intentionally hitting you he needs to be banned for a week or so from partaking in Sport Mode races.

This looks exactly like what happens to me ... ALL THE TIME. I'm in a pack, about to make a turn and suddenly I'm face first into a wall and totally out of the race before the 1st lap is even over, yet the guy or gal who hits me just carries on with a measly penalty.

I was leading Monza a couple weeks ago from 4th on the grid and I get plowed from the back in the middle of the first chicane by a car charging forward from 6th place, maybe they need to increase the size of the corner markers??? At Monza you breathe a sigh of relief when you see the 2 cars behind you are braking but you cant see 5 cars back, talk about someone making your blood boil.

Shame those types can't be disqualified.
