Wow. Just started the el cap enduro with the Minolta on b-spec. I work at home so do this quite often juist to get credits. Start game, move to 3x speed and you'll get 1mil credits in about an hour. It's overkill, but that makes it quicker if you're after credits and don't have time to look at the race.

On this occasion I decided to use N1 tyres just for a laugh. Set to spd 3 and overtake mode (as usually done) and it'll kill it, right?

Wrong. After 6 laps still in last. 7th lap about 42 sec behind. I'll leave it for a few dozen laps before changing to S1s, but this really surprised me how much time is lost on the N class tyres.

EDIT: Pitted at lap 13 from fourth place. Not touching it so full fuel and same tyres applied. 3 of the field had pitted before then inc leader Elise '99(?) Whay have I not done this experiment before?

RE-EDIT: Coming a convincing 6th place after pitting, 1:28 behind leader

Sorry to say but if you change to S1's your car will still have N1's on it.

There has been extensive testing of the tyre grade changes before, and you canot change the grade of the tyre, you can only change the 1 - 5 during the race.

The amount of time you loose on these tyres is not that suprising, because they are s*** tyres. Just ask anyone who has had to don them for max points races.

Oh god, forgot about that. Thanks Open, at least the crushing news came from a fellow Aussie. I'll reset and see how N3 tyres fare.

That's amusing. I warn you that you will not be able to change to S1s; it will look like you can, but the tires that actually go on the car will be N1s again (unless I'm mistaken and it takes N3s instead). (Treed! :ouch:) I remember doing something similar quite some time ago when I put N1s on the Gillet Vertigo and entered it in one of the Compact Cups. I'm sure I was still crap at this game when I did so and didn't know how to drive on N tires, but I couldn't do better than 6th as I wheelspun all the power away and crashed in most corners.

The 88C-V will demolish the competition on N3s, especially if you take over, but I think Bob will still handle them well enough.

2:01 was best bspec time with N1s, compared to 1:53 for the 99 Elise (leader). Trying N3 now, this may be an interesting experiment.

@Austin: yeah the N1 tyres are a bloody mongrel to get used to, I used them for aspeccing for a while but had to turn back to ballast/less hp to get the right numbers.

EDIT: N3s get me to 1st place with a best lap of 1.44 after 6 laps. That's a massive difference between N1 and N3

N2s seem to be the best compromise although they take for bloody EVER to get to temp.

Actually I wanna run 1000 Miles! soonish now that I"m thinking about it.

Thanks RJ, will try N2s after this one. N1=2:01, N3=1:44. Where in those 17 seconds will the N2s fall?

EDIT: N3s pitting every 16 laps as opp to 13 on N1s

Sorry for the double p0st, but this seems significant.

On N2s bob has a best of 1:49, which seems a tad fast compared to the others but not really remarkable.

However, bob on N2s pitted on lap 28, as opp to laps 13 or 16 for N1 or N3 respectively.

EDIT: The P(itting) light just came on (for the 2nd time) on the 57th lap.

What on earth is going on? N2s seem to be punching well above weight w/ re to pit stops. Has anyone noticed this, any threads about it (got no time to check). Please help

Very interesting to know, I'm going to keep an eye on your results here. 👍 Only 5sec slower but double the longevity....you've found the tyre fountain of youth PF. :p

I'm bloody astounded at this result. This could be a really important Aspec discovery (though surely it would have been noticed?) if it works for other cars. I've got no time left for testing so would be keen to see if it works at toher cars/tracks/events.

Fly, my pretties!

That's weird, but it must have to do with the amount of abuse N1s are getting with their low grip. I'm sure Bob is driving it sideways around every corner on the lowest-grip tires, and of course there's the enormous wheelspin that the TCS can only partially catch. The difference in grip between N1s and N2s is so vast that there really can be such a counterintuitive difference, apparently. Perhaps you should watch a lap with each different tire on the car and see how they look.

However, the extra longevity afforded by N2s as opposed to N3s on this car would not be worth it to run the fastest race overall, because the extra grip of the N3s will more than make up for the two or three more pit stops. Five seconds per lap multiplied by 66 laps is about five minutes saved by the faster laps on N3s, while the three pit stops (at most) saved by the N2s will only save about 90 seconds. Still, it's an interesting discovery.
