Hey guys,
I took off the plastic that covers the center puck of the steering wheel, but there are little pieces that are stuck. Do we just use a hex wrench to take it apart or is that just dressing? Also, anyone able to take their shift knob off yet?

I spent the best part of HK$1500 on mine, I'm not going to start taking it apart!

I tried to take the shiftknob of but the hex's are an odd size. I couldn't find a metric out of my 100+ metric wrenches. But I got out the SAE and one fit but when i started to turn the hex just started to stripe.(theymust use a real cheap metal for the bolts) so i will have to wait and try with some other stuff when i get a chance.

or, you can stop while its still functional.

Taking screws out dosn't ruinin anything. You can trust me on that. And I want a different shiftknob anyway because this one is all small and delicate. I feel like I'm going to break it if i touch it too hard.

I never thought of that.

Maybe because I'm used to RHD.

But yeah, on topic.

I wanna get at the axel that the wheel is mounted on so I can put some sort of shim on it to get rid of that play.

Like you guys know how if you drive on a rally course, the feedback kinda jitters back and forth to give you that vibration feeling, and how there is a sort of knocking sound every time the FF switches directions?

I HATE that and I want it gone.

Have any of you successfully removed and reattached the wheel itself?

If so, please do tell how it went/any problems encountered.

Thanks.

Hmm...I was under the impression that the shifter was disengageable and remountable left of the wheel...

...so much for my high hopes of a JDM feel... :indiff:

Remove the 10mm nut on the bottom of the shifter and it comes right out. I am machining a new shifter rod so I can use a real shift knob for mine. I also have blue hex screws from R/C cas for the center emblem of the steering wheel. I may be offering upgrade parts soon. PM me if interested, and or requests.

The shifter is ALL plastic, the hex bolts are fake. take out the 10mm on the bottom, and it comes right out.

Are there any issues with wiring when removing the shifter mount? I'm looking into getting a DFP, but I'm afraid I'll destroy it if I'm not careful. I really really do want to swap the shifter position, but if it means possible rewiring, I guess it's a bust. I used to solder mods (at no monetary, gain, before you jump on me) for import-playback, but I don't know jack about the inside of a DFP.

You can't swap the shifter to the left on the USA version. it's molded into the housing for now. I may try to make a separate shifter later.

NO!!! WHEN WILL MY IMPORTING CEASE???

*grumbles and looks up availability and compatibility of third party wheels, none of which have left-handed shifters - gives up and dies*

For those interested:
Check out this shifter from Frex
It replaces the plastic shifter on the DFP and can be mounted on any side of the DFP...
Therefore if you're currently using some type of desk to mount your wheel to, you should
also be able to mount this as well next to the wheel.

Frex Also provides an E-Brake for those who like to use one while Rally Racing:

I have my zero-capability wheel from way back when - I bought it for GT2, and playing GT3 with it is a nightmare! It has a good 15 degrees of play before the wheels even turn!!!

Thanks for the link! I've got some budgeting to figure out...christmas really killed my personal spending cash.

Let's see - DFP, this Shift+ thingy...a new desk...GT4....my NTSC/J console...

MY GOD!!! MY LIFE REVOLVES AROUND GRAN TURISMO!!!!

*looks around*

Oh wait...that's normal. Should I be sad about this? I'm so confused...

I don't think you have to worry too much, I can't even find where you can buy it from the site.

For the record, I am Street Fighter, and yes, I was banned some time ago.

What happened to your ExBrock account?

The best thing you ever did was taking a picture of a controller in your mouth. Funniest thing ever, at the time.

Wow, someone actually remembers me.

I know I was bad, but there were worse people.

I just made the mistake of carrying on after being told to stop.

Then I made a even bigger mistake by carrying on after being banned.

Note: Unless you feel like making friends with Der Alta (not easy) to get your IP ban lifted.. control thy eRage.

Oh, and for the record Race Dude, that controller died (or was murdered rather) quite some time ago.
