lol, ya know...sometimes I wonder how *****in' of an FC or S13 I could be building with all the cash I crap away on videogame stuff...

well, the thing is, when you build your FC or S13 it will turn out being a LOT more expensive if you drove it the same way you drive it on GT4... lets see, track time costs money, tire wear that comes from track use costs even more. (you can pretty much use up 4 tyres in just a day). and lets not forget... crash costs. i think that investing heavily in simulator stuff is a lot cheaper in the end ^_^
 
You're likely right - I'm no street racer, but I have been to parking lot drifting events. We have a few street racing and drifting clubs in my area, and a Subaru "street rally" club for the winter.

The drifting happens with the permission of the property and franchise owners - and only after store hours, usually from 10pm till around 2am when the cops clear us out. That's usually when the street racing happens, and I head home. I can't stand those idiot kids...

The Subaru club is even worse. They go out on snowy public roads, closed or not, and drift and pretend to be world class rally drivers, risking the lives of everyone around them.

The reason I want to build up a car like this, would be things like the parking lot drifting, and the fact that the tech institute I will be attending in the spring has an extra-carricular program pertaining to track meets. Bring your own car, use it to study and improve your knowledge, and test your results on the track. Also, gain credit and have an awesome time.

Whoah... a solution to the e-brake problem on the DFP! Very nice. Does anyone know how it works with the DFP, electronically? It's got to take the place of one of the buttons on the wheel I would assume (like triangle or something).

Not sure how I could mount that but if I could it would be so cool...

What tech school you going to attend? I'm attending UTI right now and the only track event we get is at California Speedway, DRAG only! :(
 
I don't mean to blow your dudes' frat party, but could we get back on topic please?

I mean, being able to race for school credit is cool and all, but I revived this thread to find out if anyone had any trouble removing the wheel from the main body of the Driving Force Pro cuz this thing is bugging the hell out of me.

If removing the wheel isn't a quirky process that risks breaking small pieces on the inside then I'll go to my uncles shop to see if I can find an allan key that fits the ones on the GT face plate. Otherwise.. I'll just leave it.

Experienced taker aparters appreciated.
 
I'd be interested to know the same, because it would seem you have to take or splice one of the wheel button wires if you want to install the Frex e-brake. Doesn't look like Frex has any instructions for that.

I don't know if this helps but I took apart my MOMO Force once, to fix a slightly loose screw. As I recall I first split the case into two pieces and was then able to access what I needed to get the wheel off.
 
Mine came apart quite easily, I repainted all the silver buttons, with a blue metallic laquer paint. And I'm almost done machining the stick replacement so I can use an aftermarket shift knob. I'm planning on getting that frex wheel adapter in a bit, so I'll keep you posted.

Long time no see.

You probably wouldn't remember me (different screen name).

But yeah, it looks to me like the face plate comes off the front and gives access to the screws holding the wheel to.. whatever it's holding onto.

I'll try opening the body and see what aggravating adventures it leads to.

It would be wicked if you could post some pictures of your DFP.
 
I took my DFP apart sometime ago & did not need to remove the face plate, but the 8 to 10 screws that are used on the bottom of the wheel.

Give it a look & you might save some time.
 
..and a word of warning to those wanting to use their computers as an entertainment system; be wary of what TV tuner card you buy. It will most likely suck.

Is there a particular tuner card you'd recommend for best quality?
 
ASUS (not ATi) Radeon 9600XT and a decent PS2 S-Video cable.

Any relatively powerful video cards with S-Video IN should deliver good resolution.

Even just making the shift from composite to s-video, you will notice a difference.
