Missing the Seasonal updates.

I don't want people to take this the wrong way as I don't mean that I'm moaning because we havn't had new ones recently.Its just I never realised how much I miss the new seasonals appearing in the online section.

I have found that I'm not playing GT5 as much as I did when they were regularly updated before the earthquake in Japan. Are they that important? They seem to be to me. I must admit I've never raced online.

Anyone else finding that they were a big your reason for playing the game more?

I have played each one quite a few times and I would say I've played each of the Formula ones probably 30 or 40 times each, or more (as I have all of the races). So its not really that I get bored easily.

Any thoughts on this? Is it another example of GT5 not really being a completely finished game or is it just me? I would just like to hear what others feel about it.

GT5 was never finished....the seasonal's are a way for PD to add content to apeize the masses who complain on a daily basis. PD knew they weren't finished so they came up with this as well as the updates. Yeah it sucks but no big deal IMO. I miss the original(with limitations) seasonal's. But really we can't expect any updates or new seasonal's for awhile considering all that Japan has on it's hands.
 
yeah, i like the seasonals and i miss them too. i do wish they had more limitations, and i wish the rewards were on a sliding scale (using lower PP car = more $$ and XP)...but at this point, i'd take pretty much whatever they want to give us! i've been having fun with the Japanese 80's races...basically buying a cheap used 80's car, tuning enough to make it competitive, racing each of the 5 races...rinse and repeat. pretty fun.
 
yeah i miss them too. i think they are doing a monthly bonus race set and a few sets of longer term themed seasonal races.

it's nice getting updates. keeps things more interesting
 
Surely there must be a tool for deploying them. If only Kaz needed to show up at the office, determine the prizes, the tracks, the cars that run against and deploys it to the server... there should be way more to do in this game anyways, like manufacturer's one make races from cash prizes. Instead, off to grind American Championship for my upteenth billionth Ticket 1000... such is the GT Life...
 
im sure the folk in PD and japan itself have alot more important things to worry about...
 
I also miss the original Seasonal Events (when they were restricted). They were challenging, some of them immensely so and the feel of accomplishment when you beat them was great (backed up by healthy exp. and money to underline the achievment).
I hope they come up with this set up again.
Until then, I wish Japan speedy recovery from the disaster. If any nation can do it - it's them.
 
After disasters (such as 9/11) it is people's natual tendency to want to get their lives back to normal as soon as possible, which includes getting back to work. I don't see any reason why the people in Japan will react any differently, so while we might not get an update this week I doubt it will be much longer before things get back on track.
 
Personally I'm enjoying being able to hammer round in the Ginetta G4 a bit longer - it's a proper fun car to drive & on a favourite track of mine. Taking the MR2 around Grand Valley east is also pretty fun. Oh yeah and I'm beating my rival in both of them (score)
 
If people who does not play online gave it an opportunity, they would discover that it is funnier than it seems.
 
An incomplete game is an opportunity for DLCs and other extra pay content.

9/11 didnt take out half the country though did it?
 
The last I saw, the current crop of seasonal events expire on 3/23. Unless PD revises the date again, we may see something new tomorrow.

Well, yes - but aren't there other PD offices which could update events?

I have offices in Japan, and they're being impacted by events there - yet my company and our business still goes on around the rest of the world.

That's all I'm saying.

Yes, Kaz and PD (and likely just about every person in Japan) *DO* have more important things to worry about. But there are still ways that this could be handled from elsewhere. Or can Kaz just not handle turning over any level of control to any other office?

Depends. For air travel, it took out THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. It was a weird week or so, no planes flying.

ETA: And no, I'm not saying 9/11 was as bad as Japan's current woes. Nowhere near as bad. But it did stop things nationwide in a lot of respects, for a while.
 
Im sure that scea will have taken over, since all the japanese servers have been relocated to the usa. i dont think its as simple as changing a few lines of code is it.

Plus as far as im aware, the seasonal events are hosted on the japanese in-house servers.
 
Yeah it sucks, hopefully they'll add new ones soon.. It is completely understandable why they aren't getting updated.

It is also ridiculous to say that they couldn't get some new ones up there.. it would be simple for them to update them, the entire world wasn't taken out, not even the entire country of Japan. It's harsh to say but it's true.

In this "internet age"- they could get it done from another country.. just pick one with a Sony office. If they don't start getting updated soon I will see it as them using the disaster as more of an excuse than an actual reason. I'll still understand though, I mean who knows what their dealing with on a daily basis.

You miss the point: people affected by disasters tend to want to get their lives back to normal as soon as possible, and I don't expect the Japanese to be any different.

I agree, I'm pretty sure they're back at work right now, carrying on regardless. What else could they be doing? Somehow I don't see Kaz & Co in hard hats working on the reconstruction.

It has me and I feel that shows just how important they are in the game.
 
I had some good fun with the seasonals.

Not all were my taste, but remembering the Golf round the ring, the Schwimmwagen, the challenging SS5 race in season 1, the F1 races, the Volvo C30 one and the historic races there were quite a few that made me looking forward to what the next season would bring.

Now, when updates stopped, I find myself searching the online section more frequently for some unusual lounges in order to find a substitute for the variety the seasonals introduced.

agree im 40 40 and the only thing left for me are some a-spec endurance that required in game save option that supposed to be released mid February .. we need this seasonal events.. i think is time to finish Castlevania for me lol.. we need something fresh from PD maybe a new C spec mode maybe a new expansion
 
I agree, the Seasonals are what gets me wanting to play GT5.

It's a same then didn't make 300+ more events before 2011. The game just isn't satisfying enough, and it's starting to be too little, too late.

I'm still spending the same amount of time (too much!), but I really miss Seasonal events. I looked forward to them all week and was disappointed every time there wasn't something new to try out (before the disaster.)

However, I can always think of something else to do. I frequently go on car buying binges so I have a lot of vehicles that I haven't tried out yet. When I first got the game, I was excited about what would happen next so I blasted through the earlier A-spec events and raced most of them in extremely over-modified cars (noob mistake!) I've been having a terrific time going back through A-spec in underpowered stock vehicles. Sometimes I'll think of a race or test or Special Event I liked and go back and do it again. I'm also starting to play online more often.

This. It's really depressing. I spent all this money on my wheel, and it sits there because I'm bored with aspec.

Indeed. I very much feel for what happened in Japan and the Japanese people.

However, PD is a global business, all businesses in Japan are trying to keep going and deliver goods & services to their clientele, in Japan and worldwide.

I hope to see new events posted today. If not, I remain disappointed PD couldn't even be bothered to post something in the news section since the earthquake. PD and the GT franchise can not be run like a family corner bakery.
