i'm having trouble with the last ib mission hall. (yes, i know i suck) just can't seem to beat the the last car at the last turn. any tips or help?

also rather than start a new board, i'm having trouble with the ia 15 test on the ring. that pace car goes too slow on the strights and the car always feels like it's about to spin out. tried breaking early and lightly pressing on the gas put it still feels like it's going to spin or something and i always end up off course. just going for bronze (gold and silver = impossible for me) so any tips would help. thanks.

I cannot really remember the IB mission so I will just post my views on the IA15 test. Thats the one with the MB at the Nurburgring right? For myself, basically, I really learnt the track well for a start. With regards to the car, it should be pretty nice to drive. If its always going to spin out, just apply some slight and snappy counter steer after you turn in, that should settle the car. The pace car is definitely slower than you. I was always pushing it along the straights. All in all, if you know the track well, gold is easily possible so just keep trying.

Also, are you using the DFP pedals? Check to see if they are working well. For some time my pedals weren't working and the car was misbehaving so to speak. Turns out the the signals from the pedals were going bonkers and I thought it was the test that was hard. In the end, I opened up the pedals and found that the connectors were coming loose. So, it might not be your driving. Just make sure the signals coming from the pedals are good.

That one is tough. I'm assuming you are drafting behind the other two cars for a boost?

My strategy: Stay right behind the first car, letting RPMs build in each gear until just before the needle goes to max. Once you are in 6th, you should be right behind the first car, just tap the wheel to pass them. Don't make any sharp turns, you'll lose more speed that way. You should now be close to the first turn. I like to brake late, so I turned into the right corner hard, then hit the brakes, shifting to 3rd, accelerated, just a bit, driving towards the apex of the chicane. then tap the brakes again, drop to 2nd, and turn. This should leave you either directly behind the second car, or in front of it. Floor it outta that turn. The distance to the last car is probably too much to get any draft effect, so just keep flooring it to the next chicane. Now, you could try staying behind the second car to get the draft boost, but I found that if you haven't overtaken the second car halfway to the second chicane its very hard to pass the last car. Take the second chicane as fast as possible, using the same method as the first. Hopefully you will be close to the last car by the time you reach the last turn. This is the crucial part. Don't break on the inital turn, just slide, then on approach to the sharp turn, brake like hell, drop to 2nd, and start a drift turn. I ended up sliding JUST in front of the last car, or slightly bumping its front side. Then just floor it like mad, STAY in 2nd until you hit the finish.

Man that one was TOUGH.

Just practice like mad on it, it took me about 20 consecutive tries to win that one, but I did it in one sitting.

for the mission... yea... the only hard part is the last car (assuming you drafted and passed the other two/three cars without problems)

you should be able to catch up the final car in the final straight road (before the last corner)
what i did was... i just slided a bit and completely knock the other car out of the way.... ta da.... i passed.. :P

thanks for the hints and tips. i'll try them again later. need to go get my GT4 disc exchanged cause my baby cousin stepped on my ps2 when i was running the game. got a big scratch in the disc. thankfully nothing wrong with the system. (sorry had to get that out.) once again thanks.

For the IA test on the Ring I got it on my second try! :D My first try I messed up at around 8 minutes becuase I got a bit too comfy and pushed the car over its limits.

Just stay in 3th and 4th gear and 5th only on the LONG straights. You will get it soon I hope. Its not really that hard if you concentrate! :D Good luck! BTW I didnt get gold on my second try. I will do the golds later on. :D

Or if you get as frustrated as I did, follow aforementioned instructions through the first chicane, then just blast straight through the sand on the second... you should end up right behind the lead car and you can draft around him before you ever hit the last set of turns....

the mission requiring drafting behind the skylines is where i'm stuck atm. no matter how i try to get'em to leapfrog draft with me, they won't play nice.

I figured out 2 things about that mission: 1: the computer cars never go faster than a certain speed through the turns. 2: You need to drive more with your rear view mirror than looking foreward.

Try this: Draft past the cars on the turn, and let them draft past you on the straights. Let ALL the cars pass you before you get in the draft and slingshot past them. Don't let the cars run into you from behind.

Same problem here. I actually got within 3 seconds the first time with no leapfrogging. I just kept pushing and running the corners down low. With leap frogging I'm 6 seconds back.

I am also needing to beat the skyline drafting mission, so i can win a zonda race car. I like to draft the black skyline the intire race by pussing in on the straights to over 27# and i have have been able to get just over the 2second mark like 0'02.1## everytime i just cant beat it

Well, if my earlier comments haven't helped, I have one more:

On the last turn before the finish, draft all the cars like I described earlier, then DIVE down to the way inside of the track. Come back up when you are within reach of drafting the lead skyline, draft him and pass him for the lead and you've won.

I just did this test and the first two cars were easy to pass. As for the last one I cheated and in the second shicane I didn't brake I just let off the gas and used the momentum to go through the sand trap. I didn't loose much speed but I got a second lead of the last car.

This skyline mission is really pissing me off. No matter what I do, the AI cars always ram into my bumper, ruining the leapfrog strategy for me! This mission wouldn't be half as bad if the AI was not as stupid as it is.

Drive with your rearview mirror!!!! I passed this test on my 3rd try using the strategy I already outlined. I wish there was something more I could tell you guys, but I told you everything I did and it worked for me.

Draft them on the turns, let them ALL draft past you on the straights. The AI cars will not draft on the turns. Drive with your rearview mirror and don't let them run into you from behind. On the last turn, after you have drafted the "pack" of cars, dive down as close as you can to the inside until you are within drafting distance of the lead car, come back up to the top of the bank where he is, draft him and win.

I was driving with my rear view mirror! I swear, it's like the damn AI cars think my taillights are some sort of bullseye!

You guys have to take a short cut across the grass. When you come up to the chicane you'll notice that the road can continue if those road blocks were not in the way. All you have to do is dodge them only by a little bit while cutting across the grass insted of slowing down and taking the paved road to the side. Using this method I was past the lead car by the second chicane. I hope this makes sence. If not just ask me..

actually, i though that test was really easy. i got silver my first try(with 3 sec. left in the silver range). the pace car does go too slow on the straights though. i often found my self about to pass it, and once did and i actually hit him but was not penalized for some reason. the only advice i can give is that you should be cautious on the long straights. the MB you use is very unstable at high speeds, and can easily spin if you clip the grass or a curb. just stay steady and keep a good line, and you should beat it without much problem.

IA-15 was pretty difficult for me but only because I did not know the ring. Just follow the pace car, brake relatively early, and walk on eggshelld when you're exitting turns because once one tread of those tires is slightly off the road or out of place its spin city. Also, watch the gear change indicator for braking. This helped me a lot in S-16 since I don't know the 'ring at all.

this skyline slipstream mission sucks a lot!

lol post #1.... many many more to come... ive tried leapfrogging and hanging low... im gonna try leap frog again, ill let you guys know if i can get it, you all do the same

Mission 23, Skyline on Test Track

If you are using a manual transmission and staying in 5th gear that is the problem. The car must make more power at 2000-3000 under redline then it does at 200-300 under redline. I tried this mission about 7-8 time and never got really close so I asked a friend to try it (over AIM, I was not a his house) and he got it the first time. I started thinking about what he does different – he uses an auto and I use a manual.

In short, shift into 6th gear.

I finally beat it last night on something like my 8th try.

Basically, follow the guys until you slip past them in the turn. Dont let off the gas, no matter what, and as soon as you pass get up high on the track (just inside the yellow line). You MUST stay there whenever you make your passes. (this is of course after you drive around the guys). This allows the guys behind you to get the best draft on you bc its where they always line up.

If you are running AT, as soon as you hit 165 feather the accelerator on/off/on/off/on so it downshifts without losing speed. (6th gear cant stay at 165 ive found, but 5th gear can).

If you make sure to stay just inside the yellow line, the first car behind you will draft off of you. As soon as he gets right on your ass, drive (left) down low to get out of his way (sometimes other guys will come up fast too). If they can pass you before youre within (give or take 150-200m) of the turn, let them pass as well.

Otherwise, starting drafting the guy(s) ahead of you and slingshot by them right as you get to the turn. If you do it right, youll be passing them in with a speed of about 171-173. As soon as you get by, make your way back to the yellow line and stay there. Get back into 5th gear when your car hits 165. They will eventually pass you on the straight, then draft them back.

You'll should notice that by the end of the 2nd turn on lap 2 youll see the guy ahead of you. Don't panic, youve still got pretty much to catch up, but bear in mind these laps are long. Do this again down the front stretch, and stay high in the turn. keep your line, the guys will pass you on the back straight.

Slingshot passed them, and then get low! Stay low until you are sure you can slipstream the lead car, he should be in reach by about the time your 2/3 of the way through the turn if you did all of this right. As soon as your in reach, go up the track and get behind him, slipstream by him, and youve completed mission 23!

Note: I took me 3 tries using this specific strategy. The first time I lost by 1.6 sec. the second time by .86- seconds. The third time I won by .2 sec. Just keep doing it, youll eventually get the jist of how to let them pass and pass them back.

The most important part is that you must not ket off the gas to let them catch up! (you can to downshift in AT). They must be able to pass you halfway through the straight and then you must pass them back at the turn with a speed of at least 171/2/3/4... much faster than this and you may have to slow down to let them pass... good luck. If you still cant get it, PM me and ill try to be more specific to figure what ure doing wrong.

I just passed the mission. I used the leapfrog method with some guidelines. First I passed on the straights and lead in the corners. The key thing is that when you pass on the straights dont pass with too much speed or else the other cars wont be able to catch up in time on the straights. I passed at about 170-171 as opposed to 174-175 that you could possibly pass. This ensured that the cars could catch up in the straights. Also it seems the black skyline is the one that usually tries to pass me. When it does it always hits me if i dont make a slight adjustment to the top of the track. Dont let the car hit you. Once it passes you, keep your speed and it should speed in front of you and then just drift behind it, remember dont go over 171 when passing or it wont be able to catch up. I passed the last car in the middle of the last corner with this strategy. Hope this helps out.

So anyone got any pointers on the NY driving mission?

Can anyone give me advice on the R92CP Mission 20?

R92CP on Le Sarthe II. Ah memories. I started out hating this course and now, after countless tries, I love it. I ended up beating the Sauber by 7.5 seconds. Here is how it goes.
On the first big sweeping right turn you get into 5th, but the corner coming up requires you to drop into second. Instead of gearing down, plow through the sand and onto the track on the other side, you will need to drop to third once you hit the pavement again. You should then pass the Panoz on the back straght before the bend. You should pass the CLK GTR at the beginning of lap 2 near the 'shortcut' and you should meet up with the bentley right at the end of the back straight. pass them during acceleration after the sharp turn and away you go. You should catch up to the Sauber just after the back straight during lap three. Victory is yours!

On the slipstreaming mission - whats the best way to let them draft you on the straight? I've been too far ahead of them. Someone said don't get off the throttle - someone else said not to pass them going too fast. If I'm just below the yellow line, should they be able to pass me in time, or is there someting else I need to do.

Thanks!
Rob

The same thing was happening me, until one time they were able to keep up.

Try passing them from the outside on the corners--i.e. stay on the yellow line all the time. That way you don't whip past them too fast. The only time I dropped down to the inside was about 2(?) turns from the end.
