I couldn't see it, but my gawd – that was one hell of a sonic boom! I live about a mile or two from a powerplant, and I thought it had exploded!

I'm glad nothing exploded. It's cool that you got to hear the sonic boom.

I've heard sonic booms before (I live, I dunno, maybe 50 miles from Edwards AFB), but this was hundreds of times more powerful than anything I've heard before. Scared the **** out of me.

Yeah here in Florida, we are used to it, but only after we realize what it was! Usually shakes everything in the house!

I am glad she is home and in one piece. Now lets see how long it takes them this time to fix the problem a second time around. :(

I was waiting for it, but it never came. No boom, and no sight of the Shuttle at all. I'm a bit disappointed. :indiff:

My favourite line...

"Discovery is at an altitude of 81 miles and 4,600 miles from Edwards - a distance she'll cover in the next 32 minutes."

WHAT?! An average speed from the end of the deceleration burn until it's stationary of 8,600mph?

Better yet, it was still at over 16,000mph less than a quarter hour from landing. That's an average of 1G deceleration all the way to the strip...
