Remember the Mitsubishi Evo X concept? Here's proof that the firm's designers are still working on the fine detail.

Caught during an open day at Mitsubishi's European Design Centre in Frankfurt and leaked on a Mitsubishi enthusiasts' web forum, this scale model shows where the Japanese manufacturer is going with the next generation of the Evo legend.

The model is clearly based on the Evo X, which first appeared at last year's Tokyo motor show. But its rear wing looks very much like standard World Rally Car specification, so this could be a design study of Mitsubishi's next rally car. The spoiler certainly looks larger than any aerodynamic aids seen on the test cars caught recently but given the Evo's rally-bred heritage, we wouldn't be surprised to see the road cars adopting the same

For more images, check out the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo forum in question at evolutionm.net.

Pretty sure this hasn't been posted cause I did a search. But if it has, just delete it mods.

Now this is an Evo I'm talking about! Model looks better than those recent pics of the normal car, so I hope this spec goes through.

aggressive looks, but the final road Evo will not look like the rallye car which is always much broader and harccore looking....

Once again, this'd make a better SRT-4 than the Caliber...

Can't have the SRT-4 out performing the SRT-6 and SRT-8 now can we.

Beautiful 👍

I'd love to see this one and the new Supra together with the '07 GT-R driving side-by-side on the highway, it's like...

The Caliber is only offered in a SRT-4 model. It replaced the SRT-4.
So believe he's saying this would be a better replacement for the SRT-4 than the Caliber SRT-4, and I would have to agree.

Its a good looking car, but I don't think its the model that is going to save Mitsubishi from oblivion here in the US. Mitsubishi needs to revamp the whole line and make them appealing to everyone with price and performance, let along build quality.

The next Outlander is a step in the right direction, and hopefully the next Lancer will do much the same.

On the SRT-4 issue, give the Caliber version a break. Offical production models aren't even out yet, so it is pretty tough to play down a car that hasn't even come out yet.

That's gotta be the tackiest spoiler I have ever seen!

Could anyone explain what the "roof intake" is for? The one that looks like a web cam?

The front to me looks like a mutant Charger and the back was grafted from an Infiniti. And its totally evil, but I like it.

It has to be for SEMA or something. Just look at the the exhaust: what Evo, WRC or not, has had a pair of 4" tips like that? The 19" wheels aren't exactly super-bling SEMA-standard, but definitely not for WRC or for the typical Evo. The roof scoop/camera looks dead on for SEMA, too.

The non-functional rear wing is a red herring. If Mitsubishi is serious about getting back to the forefront of WRC, they're not going to give away any realistic hints as to their aero mods. (Subaru had great success with their multi-sectional design.) And the hood scoop can't be useful except for obstructing the view, and even then only slightly.

Gotta be a show car.

You make a good point, but if you look at the strip below, it does look like it says Evo Rallyxxxxzeug....
