I'm totally addicted to mobile phones and am always striving for the best. However money issues due to being at uni have prevented a new phone being purchased recently.

Anyway. I currently own the SE P800 and was looking to upgrade to the P900. However there's a new phone coming out soonish (4Q) and im very tempted to buy it....

Sony Ericsson S700

http://www.gsmarena.com/

Check it out at GSMarena or whereever else you can find it.

It's got an awesome 1.3Mpix digi cam, 256k screen and most important has the option to use the memory sticks from my P800 inside it for photo/mp3(4) storage.

What do you reckon?

And what phones are you looking at getting soon? Or just really want ;)?

I've got one of these lying around. With no plan though.

I wouldn't mind one of these though.

The P800 and 900 are cool phones. I wouldn't get the S700 because it doesn't have the Symbian OS. You wouldn't be able to use any of your programs from your P800 on the S700. But, other than that, it's all up to your personal taste.

I have a Nokia 3600 right now.

It's a great phone. Symbian, Bluetooth, VGA camera, MIDI ringtones, etc. I get comments about it everywhere I go and famous people such as Paris Hilton, Missy Elliot, and Simon Cowell all have my phone. :)

I want to upgrade to the new Nokia 6260. It's Nokia's first flip phone.

It has everything the 3600 does including a built-in FM receiver and MP3 player right out of the box. Not to mention that the camera lens is on the is on the side of the phone, so you can be more discreet in your photography of more sensitive subjects. :sly:

Actually the 7200 was Nokia's first flip phone :P I quite like the look of the k700i from Sony Ericsson, the LG U8120 and the Nokia 7610. :) Not that I could afford any of them though

Have one of those - apart from the camera being the usual crappy quality, I really like this phone. Everything just works very very well....

A picture of my new remote attached (taken with the phone of course...)....

I'm looking at this phone. But my damn uncle won't sell me his phone because he is still waiting for a better one. :grumpy:

eh... nokias to me are like hondas... I hate them because everyone has them even the new ones become that way. Nokia 6260 looks absolutely gorgous. I'm not sure if I'll ever go back to flips. I do like this though... Samsung E715 My ideal phone would be like that Kyosera or the one from the first matrix movie where the keys are protected. 👍

Some other good sites are...

Just Talk and Phone Scoop

Sunny: That t610 (i believe it's called) is pretty good, aside from the nasty camera as Flerbizky said.

The P910 is coming out soon too. It's got the same 256k screen as the S700 and has the Symbian OS, which like Viper0 said will allow the use of software i've accumulated.

I can't decide! I can upgrade to the P900 this coming weekend, or wait for the S700 or P910 when it comes out. I do like the camera on the S700. Hmmm.

At the moment I still have one of these...

But I am wondering when I can get...

siemens_mc60.gif.big.gif
.

Ok, it is hard to find free tones and stuff for a Siemens, but I prefer them to Nokias.

Hah, the deal is done!

I tried to upgrade to the P900 but they're in realy short supply at the moment appararently and it would've costed £300 to upgrade :( Ouch. So as the S700 isn't out yet it thought that i wanted something similar but cheaper. I eventually stumped for the SE K700i. But saying stumped isn't quite correct as after using it for 5 minutes i knew it was the right choice all along. I got it free too which is pretty nice. I'd advise it to anyone looking for a new phone... until the S700 comes out of course ;)

How can you guys NOT use flip phones? Within one month of getting mine (Samsung aCH310?) the outside was all scratched up. Dont the screens on your phones take a beating?

Also, in my opinion, smaller is better. If I want a PDA, I'll buy a PDA. Same w/ a digicam. I have enough things in my pockets, without having a huge phone/camera/PDA/coffemaker/whatever else they put in these things to lug around.

Also, what is the point of a color screen on a phone that doesn't have a camera?

I have to get one of these - LG 4010, Motorola C370, Motorola T720, Nokia 3120, Nokia 3595, Samsung X426 and Sony Ericsson T237.

What's the best? I want a phone that's stylish and it's usable being the techy guy I am.

How about you? You own it :P

I'm using a SE k700i currently. I haven't had any problems with it so far, i love it's weight, looks, memory, camera, and features. And the screen is great qualiy too. The only slight annoyance has been the loading time when viewing the pictures folder. Other than that it's great. I bought myself a bluetooth adaptor for £15, and that's how i send files back and forth. The camera appears to go up to 1.3mega pixels ....

Good sides:

It was cheap
It's protected against shocks and water
It's good looking
It's light and handy
It has a good battery life
The screen is big and of good quality
It's a Siemens

Bad sides:

The camera sucks
The screen gets scratchy too easily

A good all-around mobile phone.

My brother's current phone. It's impressive and has good features (inculding a 2 megapixel camera (with autofocus) and a Memory Stick Duo slot).

A couple of pics he took with the camera:

My current phone. Fairly similar to my bro's k750i, the main differences are that mine only has the 1 megapixel camera and no Memory Stick Duo slot.

amp88: Your K700 also has a screen with much less colour capacity when compared to the K750/W800 (64k vs 256k.) Also the camera on the K700 is rubbish, i haven't used mine really. How good is the autofocus on the K750?

Have you two got a k700 too? I'm pretty happy with the camera personally, sure, it's not fantastic, but it's a camera phone, primarilly for taking quick shots, so i'm pleased that it can reach 1mega pixels personally.

Yeah, he mentioned something about differences in the screen, but I haven't noticed anything so I don't really consider it to be a "main difference". The k700's camera isn't that bad, but I never really use it anyway. I've got a camera to take pictures ;)

The autofocus seems quite good, he's happy with it.

Got the W800 a couple of days ago and it's a beauty :)

sonyericsson-w800-00.jpg

The camera is awesome, but not just the quality of the pictures it takes, and the fact that it auto focuses, and the cool new 'burst' feature.. but also that the camera software and menu system is really really smart and you operate the camera sideways due to the menus being oriented that way 👍

The Media software is good too, displaying tracks in an Artist/Album/Track menu system similar to other media players. The built in speaker is a million times better than any other phone speaker i've encountered at producing bass. Yes it actually produces bass. So much so that even my mum commented "that makes a lot of bass for such a small device" :dopey: You can connect any type of mini jack headphones to the phone via a supplied adapter, which is nice. I think i'm going to get one of those mini jack to tape thingies so i can use my phone to play music in the car through the tape player.

The joystick works very well which might not mean a lot to most, but anyone whose ever owned a sonyericsson phone may well have noticed that the joysticks lack feel and eventually dies after a while. This one is lovely, very solid and clicky 👍

All in, for £60 (contract) it's a bargain.

Anyone else got one? I want to compare Quadrapop highscores :P

That W800 looks sweet in orange.

Does it do MP3 playback and do you need to use Sony's proprietary software to transfer files?

This is what the ROKR should have been. Take note, Motorola...

Yeah it's a damn sexy phone

Sorry yep should've mentioned that the files i use are MP3, i'm unsure on the support of other formats. You don't need to use software to transfer the music files you can just use the usb cable that somes with or take the card out of the phone and use a card reader (i had problems with this method)... but to get the file structure that the media player uses (artist/album/tracks) i believe you have to use the software that comes with the phone (that's what i had to do). It's no biggie so long as you have Windows.

Yeah the ROKR isn't really all that great. It looks just so standard and dull and you can only store 100 tracks on it! D'oh. I've got around 120 on the W800 so far :sly:
