Another track like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway & Silverstone Circuit, which was present in GT6 when this forum was most active, but left the franchise and never had a page made for it until now.

Mobility Resort Motegi is the track formerly known as Twin Ring Motegi, that had its name changed in 2022.
Built by Honda in 1997, it uniquely featured a traditional road course & a 1.5 mile oval overlapping each other.
Despite being relatively new compared to the likes of Suzuka & Fuji, Motegi quickly established itself as one of Japan's premier racing venues.
Motegi has been the host of both national and international events, as well as being used by Honda as a testing facility. Notable events include:
  • A round of the Super Formula championship, and was the season opener in 2026.
  • A round of the Super GT championship, often the season finale.
  • The Japanese Grand Prix for MotoGP bikes.
  • Formerly the Indy Japan 300 IndyCar race, held on the oval course except in 2011.
  • Formerly the NASCAR Coca-Cola 500 Cup Series race, held on the oval course.
  • Formerly a round of GT World Challenge Asia.
  • Formerly the FIA WTCC Race of Japan.
Officially making its Gran Turismo debut in GT4, although the "Super Speedway" track from GT2 & GT3 were clearly inspired by the oval, Motegi featured a wide variety of layouts to choose from that made it a very versatile location for different types of cars.
Unfortunately due to the 2011 earthquake in Japan, the oval course was damaged to a point where it was no longer considered safe for racing, although Honda still used it for high-speed demonstration runs up until 2026.

Sadly the oval is now in the process of being torn down and turned into closer spectator viewing areas for the road course, rather than being repaired in light of IndyCar showing international interest again.
This is why I specifically include a "digitally-restored oval" as part of my track suggestion post, as although it is very expensive to do a real-world restoration, it would be far easier to have Polyphony restore it in the digital world. That way the Motegi Oval and its history can be both preserved and enjoyed in some form.
From a game perspective, the "egg-shaped" oval layout would uniquely be the only intermediate-length oval in the game, at 1.5 miles. Longer than Northern Isle & Broad Bean, but shorter than Blue Moon Bay & Daytona.

There had been a rumour from a while ago that Motegi had been visited by Polyphony with their scanning equipment. Hopefully this is true, and we could see the return of this iconic circuit to the Gran Turismo franchise in the not-too-distant future... perhaps paired with a more modern GT500 roster.

Other track posts I recommend checking out if you are a fan of the Japanese domestic racing scene are Sportsland SUGO & Okayama International Circuit.
