well i pulled my PStwo(slimline) apart the other day and i found out they do put fans in them. I wanted to remove the fan to see what was under it. While i was trying to remove the fan connector from the board plug the whole thing ripped off. I tried to get it to sit back where it was and plugged it in to see if the fan still worked. I turned it on and all was fine except one thing. the fan was screaming. I moved the plug around a little and it would slow down, shut off completely or scream again. I think sony is undervolting these fans to keep it quiet. Well i put it all back together and turned it on again to see how loud the fan is with the cover on. well it sounds like a sink is running in the other room. Another think ive noticed is that the fan is on at all times even while your PS2 is not on. the only way to get the fan off is to remove the power cord from the back.
Im thinking about hard wiring the fan to the motherboard so it spins faster cause it moves alot of air when its screaming. and putting a lexan window over the CPU/GPU area and cutting a hole in the top for fresh air and then adding a lexan window over top of the DVDROM so you can see the disk spinning.
PS. Once the fan stopped running and after about an hour it shut itself off and then the red light started blinking meaning overheat. The CPU or the GPU chip sits under the fan, and the type of fan in the PStwos are not your conventional type fan, its like a turbine style. Ill try and get some pics of it apart and some pictures of the PS2 as i modify it and possibly some videos of the fan when running faster to give you an idea of the sound.
