modding PS2 to play import games

anybody know how to do this? or do i have to buy a Japanese PS2? i want to get Drift Racer: Kaido Battle and Initial D: Special Stage, but all i can find is the import versions that won't play on a regular US PS2:mad: . thanks in advance
 
I've got an extra boot disk package laying around my house if you'd want to buy it. Has the DVD boot disk, CD boot disk and the swap tool to open up your drive.


The boot disk doesn't require you to open your PS2, thus voiding your warranty, but you have to take off the front faceplate of your drive bay. You just need a mini-phillips screwdriver and some patience as to not break it as you're taking it off but it works.
 
Messiah 2 is one of the different fully functional mod chips for ps2. I've got a custom coded Magic 3.1 👍. I love it but for the few foobars I come across booting dual layer dvd games. Those are easily bypassed by disabling the mod chip itself by pressing the reset button for a few seconds.
 
I honestly don't know anymore. Ps2newz.net has disappeared and I don't like the people over at ps2ownz.com - check there anyways. You might find a reputable chip installer in your city there.

Unless you're damn frickin good at soldering, don't do this yourself. Look for someone who knows what they're doing to install for you. 21 wires each at under a half mm thick is a very VERY difficult install
 
Chips are evil and Expensive. And when installing a chip, you are talking a huge chance on screwing up you PS2. So heed my warning.
 
that's why I said to find someone who knows what they're doing. When I said it's a very VERY damn difficult install, I was still being nice. I opened up my ps2 the other day to see the wires the guy used on mine and to my surprise, they were almost as thin as hairs. The insulation was just a very thin plastic filament that has to be melted off in order to have nice contact points. To top that, the solder points were about the size of pin heads. Not at all something an ameteur with over a year's experience at soldering like me can accomplish.

DAMN! Its much more worse than I expected. Good thing I'm purchasing a Flip Top with some swap disc's.
 
If you have an old network card laying around, try practising your soldering on it if you want to use a real chip 👍. Great practice since the solder points are about the same size. I'm not sure about the resistors though. Those are still damn small on the ps2.

I used them, a few months ago, and had them install a Magic V chip. I purchased the chip from an online vendor, and sent the chip along with my PS2 to them for installation. I seriously wouldnt mess with doing it yourself. Youre asking for trouble.


I got it back and it does everything as advertised.
[play imports, backups, etc...]

Also, I emailed them 2-3 times with questions, and they were very courteous and prompt with their replies.
 
Dont believe everything you read at ps2ownz as its the same owner as that of the fliptop or boot cds.
I have had a Messiah 1, messiah 2, Neo 4, Origa 1 and Dms3.
I recommend you get the DMS3 as its upgradable (just put update on cd and it updates) for future needs.
You can also use a none sony hdd with the dms3 and the games will think its a normal sony hdd with out having to patch the game. This is thanks to the DMS3.
